Good photographs, but poorly prepared with bad information

Most of the photographs are good and the distribution maps fair but somewhat dated. The editing is atrocious with many mistakes in spelling and grammar. The information on the species contained is dated, incomplete, or false. Even one of the photographs is misidentified. Book is overpriced for the quality

Too much Strathern not enough socrates

Having a great interest in philosophy,I so looked forward to what promised to be(based on the title)a wonderful experience reading this and 3 other books I purchased with similar titles by Mr. Strathern. Sadly,the experience was a terrible disappointment. One learns more about MR.Strathern's personal philosophical preferences and predjudices then about the men in question. Most good writers and teachers of philosophy I have been exposed to do their best to disengage their personal feelings and try to express the philosopher's ideas. Unfortunately,Mr. Strathern can't bring himself to bo that. These books are not worthy of anyone serious in their quest to learn about these great thinkers. I would recommend Stumpf's "Socrates to sartre" for anyone wanting to know more about these great men in a shorthand format.

Not worth it

This solutions manual gives exact answers but the explaination is so vague that it's not worth it to even buy it. Ask anyone else they'll give you more of an answer than this book.

TOO ACADEMIC

This book is not for the general reader interested in Sparta or Greek history. It is much too academic, with numerous references to other Greek scholars and to their writings. I know Paul Cartledge is an expert in the subject, but because of the schoarly manner in which this book was written, I just could not finish it.

Unsatisfied

This book was very unsatisfactory. I found a couple of major mistakes, and the order that the material is presented wasn't great. There are other, better books.

As a class room text

I have been associated with using this book in a class room setting. The level of statistics is Ph.D and overall the class thought the book was written at a depth that was appropriate, but was written in such a way that it was not only hard to read but did not explain itself in a logical means. The instructor often had to apologize for the short comings found in the book.
A revision in in need.

This book belongs in the trash

I am a dog behaviorist but I love to collect old breed and training books. The other day I came across this book and browsed through it. I could not believe the crap in this book, tabasco on your dogs gums for soiling in the house? Slap him real hard so that he knows he did wrong? Put vinegar on his nose so that he knows it is your house and not his? Time we educate the public with some kind and intelligent ways to train our dogs.

Save your money- This book is awful.

This book is just terrible. I bought it as a reference and to so that I wouldn't have to write down everything from dance class. But upon reading it I find almost every dance is presented in ways I have never been taught or seen practiced in any of the clubs here in San Antonio. I think maybe the Salsa step was the same and some the rumba but all the other dances just look wrong. Also the dance frames shown are the type of holds I have been taught as wrong. ( hand on the poor girls kidney instead of higher up.) In terms of the step being taught the diagrams and descriptions are not clear and many times they will use a term like Ball-Flat without defining the term anywhere in the book.

Overall a very poor effort- I wish I had not spent the money on it.
