Fantastic books
Amid the fluff and poorly-crafted analogies that abound in Christian fiction, these books are exemplary of good, solid writing. All of the books in this set are entertaining, endearing, and sometimes firghteningly realistic.

For Adults in Touch with their Inner-Child and with Patience
I received this book as a gift at the age of 30. Although it looked like a children's book, I soon discovered, by reading the introduction and, later, the instructions that this was a book for adults who retain the childhood joy and excitment of constructing THINGS. The book consists of seven do-it-yourself, 3-D cardboard constructions which require detailed attention and careful instruction, the latter is well explained in the book and the former must be a personality trait. It is a humorous, fun and challenging book that requires patience and time to complete each of the projects. I do not recommend it for kids or adults with a two-minute attention-span. But if you or someone you know is likely to devote time and effort, whether for fun or procrastination (as was my case in the middle of a thesis), this book will supply a great deal of wholesome entertainment and give one a sense of fulfillment at the end of each accomplished project, especially if they work (all of mine did!). The actual constructions make for great gifts and they are certainly conversation pieces in any home as they are eccentric, funny and aesthetically pleasing. I regret that Paul Spooner does not have more such fun currently in print for those of us who enjoy learning a little physics while we build silly gadgets that bring a smile to anyone who encounters the finished product and some pride to those who bothered and enjoyed building them.

Great read
This book is a great read from start to finish. Weiss takes a concept never before written upon, and delves completely into it. He starts off so simply so as not to lose the reader even with one single assumption. A credit to Weiss' diligence and persistence. He does not miss a single thing.

Although a little out of date by todays standards, it is still a good basis with which anyone writing or reading about sports philosophy should start.

The key to successful number crunching
As a person in higher education, I have witnessed the common occurence of students needing to use SPSS for their Intro Stats classes, but not knowing how to get started or if they are using the program appropriately. After looking at other manuals to provide this assistance, I really believe that this manual is the best one out there! It has nice algorithmic steps for the application challenged and it provides nice examples to help ensure that you are using the appropriate tests. Since the SPSS program is so user friendly, students may go pal mal through the program and not fully understand what tests they are running and what their output means. I think that this manual provides a nice bridge for this potential gap.

The manual is in need of a rewrite however, as the SPSS program has been updated since the books release. I would also liked to see some samples of how to interpret the data output for a couple of the tests.

Truly moving coming-of-age memoir
Paul Watkins's Stand Before Your God tells the story of his 10 or so years in two of Britain's top boarding schools - Dragon and Eton. This memoir tells of his coming of age in the all male environment of the British boarding school.

By his own admission, Watkins's coming of age did not occur gradually, but the growth came in "jolts, from one suddenly realized thing to another ... It seems that in some years I would stay the same and at other times, I would be jolted four times in a week." (pg. 144) Since his memoir chronicles these jolts that occurred during his boarding school years, there is a lack of smooth flow in the book. That is not to say it is bad in anyway, but it isn't a biography of his boarding school years. It isn't a book about what it's like to attend Dragon or Eton. On many occasions, the reader hardly knows what year Paul is in school. Traditions and idiosyncracies of the schools are mentioned in passing, but rarely explained.

It is a book about what it was like for Paul Watkins to grow up at Dragon and Eton. It is a truly moving coming-of-age story. Watkins demonstrates an amazing memory, and the first chapters (his early years) seem to be spoken by a scared and lonely six-year-old boy. He eloquently describes the events that shaped his life including his father's death from cancer during his first year at Eton.

The one thing I found to be lacking was a conclusion saying where his friends are now. Perhaps that is because Watkins doesn't know himself. Since the memoir is about his coming-of-age, friends and family only appear on the peripheral. I was also left with the impression that Watkins had few close friends. Three, in particular though, were important enough in his life to make an impression on me as a reader. I was left wondering where they might be now. That is a very minor point though and may not have served the book well after all.

That aside, this is a very good book. I couldn't put in down and suffered for that lack of will power the next day. It was not so much that I was engrossed in what was happening, but I needed to find out what was going to happen to Paul. I couldn't wait to find out how he made it through school. I recommend this book.

Hello Stanny
Thats right. Hello Stanny You feel like you are a part ofStanford White's world When you read this book ...

For me, It waslike I could step right into Stanford's world. His electric personality enveloped me as I flew through the pages. I went to Europe with 'Stanny' I visited Milan of the 1880's I toured the streets of New York sidstepping the carriages. Before New York was 42nd street and taxis, New york belonged to the opulence of a century gone by. You too can live in Stannys world if you read this book.

Follow him through into his fifties when finally he is shot by his jealous lovers husband in the Madison Square Garden he designed.

Good summer reading, delightful pros and excellent narrative. Never a dull moment. This book is good beach reading. Take my advice and take Stanny home with you from Amazon today ...

Lots of missions and voice overs by Patrick Stewart
This game is pretty good with a few glitches. I love the fact that you can automate your ships to respond to threats. The buildup of resources could be a little faster though. Overall it's a fun game to pick up on the buget rack...

Serious study of the subject in case, i.e. Hollywood stars
In his new edition of "Stars", Richard Dyer presents its readers with results of his thorough study about stars in/and Hollywood. It is a good read for anyone, who is seriously interested in a "star phenomenon" in particular, and "Hollywood phenomenon" in general. Step by step, Dyer focuses on topics such as "stars as a social phenomenon", "stars as images", and "stars as characters in films". He supports his findings with numeorus examples of many different films and actors, such as Al Pacino, Malylin Monroe, Tipi Hedren, etc. He also mentiones Jane Fonda in depth as an illustration of a specific image construction in Hollywood. One can only hope that in his upcoming edition, Dyer will expand his study to include examples of contemporary stars, since Hollywood dynamics keeps changing drastically every decade or two.
