Seven tough stories by long-neglected Black Mask contributor
If you're a fan of Hammett, Chandler, Thompson, Goodis, et al, you owe it to yourself to read anything you can get your hands on by Paul Cain. His characters live outside the law and in the depths of the Depression, and are invariably without hope or anything resembling a future. Someone always ends up dead, and deservedly so. These are not random or remorseless killings, though, they are full of passion and betrayal, and when some mug gets a belly full of lead you understand only too well why he had it coming. James M. Cain (no relation) was a powder puff compared to this guy. Highly recommended

Intriguing romance with a sense of mystery!
The Seventeenth Stair was the first romantic book I've ever read that combined romance with mystery and I simply loves it. I've forgotten how many times I've re-read it and the book is still one of my favourites, kept in my prized collection. Ever since reading this story, I've been looking for a similarly themed love story. In short, a romantic cloak and dagger novel that simply thrills and is never boring no matter how many times you read it!

Good, Hot Writing
Editor Paul Willis has done an excellent job with this, his first collection of erotic writing.
Of course, the very theme of the book; the concept of the "sex buddy", is something that is fairly unique to the gay community yet at the same time very prurient and exciting. Let's face it, sometimes relationships get in the way of the hot sex we all used to have in the beginning, and isn't it better to have someone who knows what you like, that you know how to pleasure, but you don't have to deal with all of the relationship nonsense that goes with it?
For a first time editor, Willis has gathered some incredibly formidible names--Felice Picano, Greg Herren, Jameson Currier, M. Christian, Jay Quinn--in addition to some of the top gay writers of erotica today. This gives the book not only some hot and heavy content, but also a degree of literary merit that is usually conspicuously absent from these books.
Can't wait for his next one!

Lots of men nead to read (hear) this stuff
I have just finished listening to the audio version of this book. There are so many of my friends who could benefit if they were to take the time and have the courage to hear this message. Sexual addiction/temptation are so common in our society and men just accept this behavior for themselves as "natural tendencies". This book addresses key questions: Am I a sex addict and how can I tell? Is there pornography or lustful desires in my secret self? If my wife or mother were to find out about my secrets would they be shocked and shamed? The audio book is a series of tapes of a radio talk show where listeners are calling in and are having to deal with sexual addiction in their families. The stories are heart wrenching and should be a wakeup call for all men who dabble in the secret world of pornography, sexual fantasies, and self gratification.

A Cuban-American tale of the struggle for liberty.
Felix Rodriguez, a Cuban-born CIA Agent better known to many by his nom de guerre, Max Gomez, relates how the brutality and oppression of Castro's communist regime led his family to emigrate to the US and him to become one of the youngest participants in the Bay of Pigs landing. After successfully evading capture, he made his way back to the US where he became a US Army Officer and later a CIA Agent. In Bolivia, he trained the forces which captured Che Guevarra. As one of his last acts before the Bolivians executed him, Che gave his wristwatch to Rodriguez who wore it constantly thereafter. Despite their adherance to different systems, each recognized the other as a fellow warrior. He also writes of his years in Vietnam where he worked with William Buckley, the Agent who was later taken hostage in Lebanon and ultimately tortured to death. Finally, he relates his involvement in extending US support to Nicaraguan freedom fighters seeking to liberate their own country from the secret police and political prisons which proliferated under the Sandinista government. The book is very inspirational and should, if they would read it, open the eyes of those who live in a fool's paradise regarding the fate which awaits them should America ever lose its strength and resolve. It is also a tribute to the contribution, to that strength and resolve, made by those Cubans who came to our country and proved to be better Americans than many who were born here. Felix Rodriguez is an American hero, and this is his story. Read it.

Fidelity to the Church is the way out of the scandals
This book differs from other books about the scandals in the Church in that it is a collection of essays, rather than one work by one author. As such, it covers a wide range of scandal-related topics from a wide range of views.

The basic view undergirding all of the others is that all Catholics face a renewed call to holiness. Beyond this, there may be some differences among the authors, but basically all agree that this is no time for the Catholic Church to be talking about changes in Her teachings and practices. The proper remedy for these scandals is for all Catholics, but especially priests and bishops, to be faithful to the Church's teachings. No one can argue that these scandals were created by priests who embraced celibacy joyfully and who protected it jealously!

Although all of the essays are good, a few stand out. Gregory K. Popcak's essay on how to help a victim of abuse offers much-needed guidance for a difficult problem. Mark Shea's essay offers a possible reason that the pope hasn't removed offending bishops - and whether you find yourself agreeing or not, it is a compelling argument. Fr. Mitchell Pacwa asks the reader to consider the effects of these scandals on innocent priests. Finally, Kristine L. Franklin offers helpful advice on how to discuss the scandal with children.

I join the authors of these essays in looking forward to happier days in the Church after this period of painful purification, and I thank God that many faithful Catholics are making their voices heard.

Great Book, interesting concepts.
I actually picked this up from an auction on ebay, though I thought it great enough to put my comments up on here.

First thing first. This book is packed with information on bringing Shaman characters into the game with not one, not two, but three different shaman classes. Each has a separate spell list though the other shaman's can gain those spells as though they were one level higher than if they were that specific shaman. Itis 96 pages that fits in a Players and DMs section, as well as a mini Monstrous compendium for Spirits (which take up about the last fifth of the book. Needless to say, this is definately well worth getting, especially if you want to take your campaign in previously unexplored territory.
