It's amazing what I didn't remember!
Paul Baldwin has done a fantastic job of selecting special events of the 20th century to help us understand how much mankind has grown in the past 100 years. Of course, many of the events occurred before I was born, but it was refreshing to "re-learn history" by reviewing his concise and interesting descriptions. I say "re-learn" history, since I'm sure I was exposed to many of these events during ny school days, but I sure didn't remember them all. As for the more current events, those I've actually lived through -- what an adventure to read about and re-live some of those events. A fascinating read!

A great resource for fathers, and fun to read too.
I'm not much on self-help books or parenting books in general, but this is a great book for helping fathers gain a perspective on their significance in the lives of their childern. The model of the "wheel" seems a little strange at first, but it really helps you visualize the points the author makes. The book has a slight conservative Christian lean, but it never becomes over-powering or preachy. A great book to have around when you need a little injection of wisdom to help you make it through those tyring moments of fatherhood.

Refreashing
This book is very different from most other financial books in the sense that I was left with real life steps that should be taken. I felt I was more in control with my finacial picture. The book was fairly easy to read and I found very little fluff. I felt it was of help and I will use several of the strategies that Mr. Reed gives.

ABC Bouncy Boxes and Board Book

2 to 4 year olds ADORE this "surprise"!
This "book" is great for learning your ABC's, but what kids just adore is the way the boxes FLY out of the box when you open it. It's surprisingly durable. The down side is that an adult has to flatten all the blocks and put them back over and over and over ... kids never tire of watching those blocks fly through the air!

Enchanting Eye-Catcher
I happened upon this true gem of a book at The Getty, while on a trip to Los Angeles, and simply had to have it. Anyone with an appreciation for words and letters and the challenge of combining them as perfectly as possible, will love this! It is a constant delight and one with which I gift special friends.

At last, a voice for sanity
Compassionate and pragmatic, Abortion and Common Sense cuts through the rhetoric and misinformation of the abortion debate to show how restricting women's access to early, safe and legal services is not only unworkable and unfair but also harmful, illogical and undemocratic. In the context of the Bush administration's reactionary position on sex education, abortion and even contraception together with its defunding of international family planning organizations, the authors' insistence that safe early termination services should be a routine element of good medical care and of an equitable and rational social policy is refreshing indeed! This book is a "must read" for health professionals, teachers, social workers, lawmakers, and everyone else who may harbor a few doubts about the moralities and practicalities of abortion in women's lives. (A Quick Quiz in the early pages of the book to test your knowledge of abortion laws and practices will really surprise you.)
