Although it gets off to a shakey start - an intimate knowledge of biochemistry is vital to make it through - 'Fundamentals' soon undergoes a metamorphisis: from descriptive meditation to a multilayered web of intruige.

It grapples with ideas of multiplicity and individuality in our modern age, through its discussion of imitation cheese and substitute cheese products. An excellent, concise, yet thorough overview of the radiologic exams which medical students, residents and ER physicians order on a daily basis in order to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses/injuries in the Emergency Room. This is not intended to be an exhaustive discussion of everything radiological. It is purposefully focused on radiology for the specific needs of emergency medical personnel. The book contains many very good radiographs which are labeled and marked for educational purposes. Additionally it contains tables and algorithms for differential diagnoses which are extremely helpful. This book is a must for medical students and residents preparing for and going through an ER rotation, but could undoubtedly be valuable to a physician at all stages of his/her career as a review and reference text. Don't let the small size of this book fool you into thinking it must be inferior. It has everything you need to know to approach the issue of radiologic diagnostic testing of the acutely ill/injured patient.

There have been so many management and quality theories over the years - but nobody has told us how they all fit together - in fact they always bad mouth different programs. This book tells how different quality philosophies build on one another. It also has real world examples of how to effectively implement ISO, Six Sigma and "Fusion Management". With the current economy and layoffs I'm ready to use the roadmap to get my company back on track. It is a good quick read, with interesting case studies (I read it on a four hour flight). It may be the most usable business book I've read in quite a long time.

Need to understand an Aussie? This is your book! Natively I don't speak english; I can understand american speakers but when my daughter married an Australian it was like listening a completely different language. A friend handed me this book to help me communicate with my son in law and "G'Day Mate" did the miracle! It was very helpful for understanding certain qualities in the language used in Australia. I highly recommnd this book to anyone, english speaker or not, who wants to speak "aussie" or at least understand it.

This wonderful book was nominated ('shortlisted") for England's Booker Prize, a major British literary award. Gabirel Harvey is the son of an elderly, emotionally tyrannical father, and a sprightly young mother. Oswald and Amy are mismatched.The live a scraping-by existence in Postwar Britain, (the novel ends in the early 1980s). until Oswald comes into a fortune.Instead of being delighted with the money, Amy chafes under Oswald's flowering pretensions. She leaves abrubtly just before Gabriel's thirteenth birthday.Gabirel descends into a proverbial decline, but through common sense and wit, collects a great deal of experience, while waiting to hear directly from his mother.Bailey's description of London and its characters is insighful and zesty. We lean about Oswald's secrets. He claims to be an honest man, but it is revelaed near the end that he is anything but honest. This book is a well balanced combination of humor and sadness.

The wonderful illustrations and photographs keep your attention on each page and lead to more discussion. Galileo's ideas are put into context with the religious and scientific climate of his time with lots of references to other historical figures. I can't wait to get other books in the series.
