A Great Collection of Custer Material: A Truely Fun Read
This book is unique in that it provides essays on the numerous facets of Custer's life not only by the participants that knew him but from Custer himself including notable historians that know Custer best. It also covers fascinating facts such as Custer's First Stand at Trevillian Station, a Civil War Battle where Custer was surrounded by Confederate Calavary. Hutton, himself a notable Western Historian, is one of a number of well written essays on the Custer Myth including a critical look at how movies and art portrayed Custer over the years representing the pathos of the nation at that time. The change of view from Erol Flynn's "They Died with Their Boots On" to Richard Mulligan's portrayal in "Little Bighorn" takes a well versed explanation. One of my favorite parts of the book is an essay by Hutton where he explains why in movie director John Ford's "Fort Apache" version of Custer's last stand, John Wayne's character Captain York praises the gallant loss of Colonel Thursday (Custer,) who he actually hated, because York "realized that society understands little of the true motivation of heroes but still needs to idealize them as figures to emulate". This is just not an interesting read but a reflection of how changes in society change perceptions of men and history. By the way, its a fun read!

Great book, almost unavailable
As a military historian, I can rank this as one of the best books on the subject of early warfare. It is also one of the least known. This was designed to be a reference library book (no illustrations), and has been priced accordingly. This is a shame, as it should be read by a great many more military buffs. The author does a great job and deserves to be better known. This book would make a fantastic paperback for wide distribution....anyone in the publishing business listening?

Australian reviews
"Paul Collins has successfully created an apocalyptic action-packed nightmare, escalating some of our worst present day fears into the not so distant future." Nita Kambouris, Australian Book Review.

"Cyberskin is strangely compelling and enjoyable contemporary science fiction, built around an off-kilter view of a world we may already inhabit." Michael Shuttleworth, The Sunday Age.

"... Paul Collins deserves the title of 'Father of Contemporary Australian Genre Fiction ... Cyberskin has a wicked satirical setting ... it's a blazingly-paced techno-noir adventure." Robert Jan, Zero G, 3RRR.

"Cyberskin is a highly creative - albeit at times disturbing - adventure that draws in the reader." Corinne Hotchkin, The Gazette.

"Action-packed, hard-edged and exciting, this is Travis McGee in cyberspace all the way." Terry Dowling, The Australian.

"It's got it all. Good plot, interesting characters and a morbidly fascinating setting. I'd certainly recommend it." George Ivanoff, Frontier.

"Overall, CYBERSKIN is a great read. It's all those things other reviewers have said about it ... Slick... inventive... hard-edged... disturbing... morbidly fascinating... a blazingly-paced techno-noir adventure." Peter McNamara on radio

Forthcoming reviews:

"Cyberskin is way cool: this is cyber-streetsmart fiction that zooms along at the speed of light. This is tough, incisive thriller fiction." Van Ikin, Sydney Morning Herald.

"Paul Collins' Cyberskin makes Bladerunner seem positively emaciated. Hard driving cyberpunk novel with a filmnoir backdrop". Colin Steele, The Canberra Times.

Past reviews

"Australia is not the science fiction capital of the world; in fact we are probably not even on the map. This unfortunate fact would change if we could produce more writers like Paul Collins". Michael Hanrahan, Australian Book Review.

"Edgy, strange, disconcerting, alarming, as speculative fiction is supposed to be. Collins writes the definitive well-crafted, dangerous story". Kerry Greenwood, The Age.

"Collins has a penchant for the hard-boiled hero, a lineage derived from Hammett and Chandler". Colin Steele, The Canberra Times.

With 111 black-and-white, and 82 full color illustrations
Especially acclaimed for his memorable images, still lifes, and landscapes, Paul Cezanne was one of the most influential of the European artists in the early modernism movement. In Cezanne: The Self-Portraits, independent art historian Steven Platzman carefully and meticulously analyzes the stylistic development of Cezanne's self-portraits as a means of understanding how the artist saw himself, how he perceived others, and how he positions himself both in art communities and avant-garde society of mid-nineteenth century France. Platzman provides a new and compelling explanation for Cezanne's experiments with impressionism and the creation of his own far more personal and idiosyncratic style. With Platzman's informative, challenging, accessible text superbly being superbly presented and enhanced with 111 black-and-white, and 82 full color illustrations, Cezanne: The Self-Portraits is a welcome and invaluable contribution to personal, professional, and academic Art History collections in general, and Cezanne enthusiasts in particular.

Updated Daddy Book Helpful
Good book for little kids about fathers and their jobs, including their most important job of parenting. Paul Meisel`s pleasant smiling daddies show all kinds of different things fathers might do for work. But the biggest smiles are on the faces of my boys, when Janet Frank writes, "...daddies hurry home-- to us!" I especially like this book, because here in Japan the most prevalent image is that of the salaryman. This shows that there are other options, as well as the fact that women do these jobs, too.

Every Kid Can Identify With These Stories!
Parents think that they're the only ones with memories of the past. But, when children of all ages read these warm and funny stories, they will immediately go back in time to their own childhood and remember similar scenes and funny stories.

The author has taken real-life situations and presented them in a warm and humorous way so that the audience looks at each event from a different view - a Daddy's eyes.

Good Manna!
I am using this book for daily devotional and find it very refreshing and informative. It provides a wonderful sampling of the lives and theology of these great figures of the Christian faith. I look forward to working through the tome(p.400), and then reading more of the original works of these mighty Christians(Julian of Norwich, Thomas a Kempis, Bonhoeffer, etc.)
