Winners Take All
I am a 5th grade student at Waldron Mercy Academy(FSJ).
Kyle was an amazing baseball player. He always told the truth until...Kyle just wanted to win so bad against this one team called "The Cubs" that he made a fake catch. He thought no one saw him,but he wasn't a hundred percent sure if you asked me. Anyway back to telling the story. Everyone believed him,his dad(who was really proud of him),his mom, gradmother(who kneweverything about baseball and was practically in love with it), his whole team and coach, everyone who saw him, and his best friends Nate and Claire. What will Kyle do if the person who saw him tells that he made a fake catch?

Winners Take All
Have you ever been accused for cheating? We'll Kyle Holt has, the Reds center fielder, When he caught the winning catch to beat the Cubs. Even though Kyle didn't catch the winning ball the ump didn't know so he called it good. So then after the game a kid called him and said" If the Cubs don't win the championship, your secret wouldn't be a secret." Now if you are starting to get into this one and only sport fiction book you should read it. This book is full with interesting things, exciting things and wonderful things too. So I would definitely recommend this book to other kids.

Fantastic
Fantastic how both illustrator and author can put so much heart and detail into a childrens book. Great story; not one of those nonsensical ones that flood the market today. A delight for both parent and child. So much to see and discover on every page. And during the next read one spots yet another little detail.

It's difficult to take a strangers recommendation, but this book is great (as is Winnie The Witch).

A very stimulating book with superb illustrations.
This story was so good it inspired us to write our own Winnie adventures. The story was fun and made you feel warm and cosy at the end. The illustrations were fantastic - a cartoon witch that was not too scary! Every time we read it we saw something new.

This is a book that every catholic should read !.
The Wisdom of John Paul II describes the Pope's innermost thoughts on subjects such as abortion, education, war, religion, and love. The book is well-written and interesting as well because it's made of quotes from speeches made by the Holy Father. The Pope's views on certain issues have often been controversial, but certainly there's a lot of wisdom in his words.

An insightful and inspiring gem
Nick Bakalar and Richard Balkin have scoured numerous encyclicals, speeches, and letters to assemble this wonderful treasury of Pope John Paul II's thoughts on many questions facing today's society. The result is a wealth of wisdom and insight from the most seen man in the world. This isn't a book of answers to life's vital questions; rather, it offers the Pope's and the Church's view on such issues and asks us to question our attitudes and feelings. The topics are far-ranging, both contemporary and timeless. Matters of love, family, death, women, work, and youth are addressed as well as subjects such as human rights and progress and the modern world. Bakalar and Balkin's greatest strength in composing this book is the wide spectrum they've selected from. These issues are universal, and you will find something that speaks to you. You'll probably discover much more.

"The Wisdom of John Paul II" is not only a great addition to your inspirational or religious library; it's also a great addition to any library. I suggest giving this book as a gift, especially if you're looking for something meaningful that can be read over and over (instead of being used as a dust-collector). Non-Catholics and even non-religious will find the Pope's words inspiring, and his message of universal love can be understood and appreciated by all. He does not viciously attack groups in conflict with Church teachings but graciously approaches controversy as does a leader of the faith. Wherever he acts as an apologetic, he does so with the patience and firmness that has guided the Church through more than two decades.

This book, in part, acts as an intimate autobiography as it his diary of his times and how he has confronted the Church and society he has been entrusted. What makes this papal journal stand out from the rest though is that it is more than a portrait of the Pope or a collection of his quotes. His words represent one man's thoughts, but it also gives us a strong picture of his vision for the Catholic Church of the new millennium. Every issue is one that immediately concerns contemporary society, and that makes this book such an enjoyable and necessary read.

Good Book!
I enjoyed this book very much, I thought the amount of detail was about right. In particular, I was interested in the Borden case, and enjoyed the transcript of Lizzie's court testimony which was included in the book.

Terrific reading for true crime fans!
There's nothing I enjoy more than true crime stories. Unfortunately, with a few notable exceptions, many such books are poorly written. But H. Paul Jeffers, in With an Axe, gives the reader both fascinating reading and top notch writing. It's one of those books you just can't put down! Another winner for Mr. Jeffers.

Great book
Very informational and educational. Easy to read and not dull as expected.

An enlightening book destined to be of great interest
Professors Abramson and Pinkerton have done an admirable job analyzing human sexuality from a modern (i.e., multi-disciplinary) perspective. Their thoughtful presentation demonstrates great moral and intellectual courage. Consequently, I predict their book will be kindly received by thoughtful individuals well into the future. A hearty thanks to the authors for having written this ground-breaking book!

A favorite at our house
This was the surprise Christmas favorite of 2001. I bought it almost as an afterthought for my 3-year old who likes the Wizard of Oz movie. She ADORES this book and asks for it frequently as a bedtime story. She has leanred the words to almost every song. What fun!

Excellent for young readers and singers
My son, 3yrs old, loves Wizard of Oz. This book, like others, has the buttons down the right hand side, but unlike others has thelyrics and extended songs (not just sound-bites). We sing every night with this book. It's not CD quality music, but my son loves it!

Great tales from the Golden Age of pulps!
Jack Williamson has the skill to capture one's interest right from the first sentence of a story and hold it, drawing one in to read on and discover the mystery and wonder that follow. He has a very visual style and in the title story Wolves of Darkness he provides a scientific explanation for lycanthropy instead of the usual supernatural rationale. He also describes a process that sounds very similar to the way that micro-processors are made today! And this was in 1932, some 20 years before even the transistor was developed, let alone micro-chips! When this story was written even the vacuum tube was still a rather new thing.

Williamson writes in the pulp fiction style of the day, which is somewhat repetitive and tiresome at times, but since the going rate for a pulp magazine story back then was a half cent a word or less, it's understandable why an author would "flesh out" a tale as much as possible! Even so, these stories still hold up well.

This is a handsome volume, well-made, with colorful reproductions on the endpapers of the covers of the old pulp magazines in which the stories originally appeared. This book is a must-have for all Jack Williamson fans and all science-fiction/horror fans in general!

Wolves among us and other great tales!
This is a handsome book, well-made, with colorful reproductions on the endpapers of the covers of the old pulp magazines in which the stories originally appeared. Some of these grand old pulps can still be found on auction sites and in second-hand book stores, and they're worth collecting, not only for the stories but also for the wonderful illustrations. The quality of this book and the early Jack Williamson tales make this volume worth its rather high price.

I wanted particularly to read the short novelette Wolves of Darkness, because I'd heard it was the precursor werewolf tale to his later classic Darker Than You Think, and I was not disappointed! Williamson has the skill to capture one's interest right from the first sentence of a story and hold it, drawing one in to read on and discover the mystery and wonder that follow. This book is a must-have for all Jack Williamson fans and all science-fiction/horror fans in general!

A Good Reference Book for Beginners.
While nothing will replace a series of lessons from a competent teaching pro, this book can be a useful supplement for those of us who need to have something tangible to refer back to, in between lessons and rounds. The pictures are detailed and are particularly nice with regard to giving the reader a sequential view of different shots from different angles. Some of the theory behind different shots is also presented, but not in an overly wordy or technical manner. As a novice woman golfer, I refer to this book fairly frequently, as it has given me a better understanding of my particular swing mechanics without inundating me with a lot of physics. I found the discourse on grip particularly helpful. There are also some nice side-bar comments and tips sprinkled throughout the book, which can be useful. I found this book to be well-written, without cute language and/or negative attitudes about male golfers. Thanks, Judy.

Best instruction book ever written.
For the first time a golf book for women that is not condesending

Simple...Profound...
In this book the two authors have gotten together to write some very profound truths and yet they have done so very simply. This book emphasizes the need for Christians to be grounded and balanced in both the scriptures and the Holy Spirit. They also talk about what it will take to get Christians to the next move of God like unity and humility.

Unassuming Giant
Don't be foold by the length of this book. Within its less than 100 pages is some of the most important and weighty issues of the modern and future Christian Chruch. With the convergence of these two great men, a work has been produced that hopefully will open the eyes, hearts, souls, and minds of all who read it, and then encourage their friends to read it as I have. Please read this book. These are not flighty ideas to be brushed aside or swept under a rug but brought to the forefront, examined, meditated on, and then reexamined. Let the message of this book impact you and hopefully, shift your paradigme of what you percieve the future of the Christian chruch to be.

Balances centuries of tradition and faith with modern change
The World Of Christ And the World Of Culture: Sacred And Secular Through The Theology Of Karl Barth by Paul Louis Metzger (Assistant Professor of Christian Theology and Theology of Culture, Multnomah Biblical Seminary, Portland, Oregon) is a close and illuminating study of Karl Barth's revolutionary theological ideals. From exploring the sacred in the creative word to "theological politics" to the demise of corpus christianum, The World of Christ and the World of Culture balances centuries of tradition and faith with modern changes in human way of life looking for a road that unifies faith in God with adaptations to the onward march of Time. The World Of Christ And The World Of Culture is a most welcome addition to Christian Theological Studies reading lists and library collections.

Towards a Theology of Culture
Amazing! This book shows how Orthodox Christology can provide a framework for engagement of the sacred and secular spheres which is both constructive and critical. Metzger shows how Barth's understanding of the relation of Christ's divine and human natures establishes the basis for a theology of culture.

Barth's paradigm, it is argued, provides a framework in which culture is allowed to truly be itself as secular, in distinct though inseparable relation to Christ. In Barth's day, his paradigm spoke against both the divinization of culture witnessed in Nazi Germany, and the secularization of culture in Soviet socialism, yet remained constructive calling for the humanization of culture to be truly secular in its proper sphere. Barth's appreciation of Mozart is shown not to be an anomaly in his theology as a whole, but rather the product of his Christological paradigm.

Today, the implications of this paradigm loom large for what Gunton refers to in the foreword as the often "distorted religious culture" of America and the West attempting to come to terms with Islam and the global world. I myself have often wrestled with the schizophrenic waffling between divinization and secularization of culture so evident here in America. This book has helped me set a framework in which Christology speaks both critically and constructively to both church and culture.

Metzger shows how Barth's paradigm establishes the framework for a theology of culture crucially relevant to our modern day, in which Christology calls culture to truly be itself. I highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to see Christology taken 'off the shelf' and into the world-at-large.
