Superb work - destroys misconceptions
This glorious work (very dry reading for many, I'm afraid) puts the nails in the coffin of the highly-popular and much-promoted idea that the ancient Germanic (Norse/Saxon/Gothic/Frankish-Teutonic/Frisian.....and even Slavic and Celtic) cultural-world view can in any way be reconciled with the Masonic/Hermetic/Jewish-Kaballistic drivel that many "Aryan" occultists and politicos have insisted on for the last several hundred years. The "Superman" notion that the Nazi party fixated upon and the "Faustian" ideal that generated it, which seeped across Europe thanks to various "Saturnian" elements (Freemasons, Rosicrucians, etc.) has NOTHING at all to do with our ancient heritage or the outlook native to our race. In fact, the view of "present-becoming past" that our ancestors held to IS far more valid than the lie and deception of a "future" which everyone has swallowed today. Because of their views, our ancestors lived in the present and did not WAIT for some "future" to traspire. As you will see in this book, they recognized that the "swirl of life" and circumstances could not be predicted and therefore they concerned themselves with the present and the past....unlike so many people from the plague of early Christianity onward, who neglected their lives in the present and focused on some trumped-up notion of a "future" handed to them by culture-subverting con men. Of couse, seeing life in terms of a "present-becoming past" perspective did not inhibit our ancestors from advancing technologically. One look at the expansive drive that they had in pre-Christian/pre-Kabbalistic/Jewish times will serve to show that our relatives of those far distant days were much more dynamic than we are now! And perhaps the absolute LIE of a "Future" and the hypnotic hold this gyp-notion has on our race today might explain why our numbers are dwindling to the point where we aren't even replacing ourselves with offspring.....in other words, we are headed for extinction as a race if this trend continues for much longer. Not that such a development wouldn't absolutely delight the Kabbalistic con men who promoted the "future" hogwash in our lands to begin with (read "Judaism's Strange Gods" for more details)! If the concepts of this book are grasped, and you begin to make an effort to view your life in the original way of our ancestors, I think you'll find it exceptionally empowering.
An excellent work and very much worth reading. Unfortunately, I doubt if many will ever be exposed to it.

essential
This book is essential to understanding the pre-Christian Germanic culture and cosmology. In particular emphasis is placed on the view of time, action, death, change, wyrd (similar to fate, but very different), orlog.

Well researched and documented with quotes from original sources (e.g. Beowulf, the Eddas).

What St. Paul Really Said: was Paul of Tarsus the real founder of Christianity?

A definitive statement
Once again Tom Wright has demonstrated that he has the most definitive grasp of the New Testament of anyone in Church history. If you read anything on Paul, read this book!!

A perfect middle ground . . .
N. T. Wright is a brilliant scholar and deserves to be read my Christians and skeptics alike. Wright has excellently stood in the middle ground of Christian scholarship--unlike Fundamentalists he does not see the need to take everything in Scripture completely literally and unlike Liberals he does not dismiss (or, as Liberals are fond of doing, "reinterpret") the large portions of the Pauline epistles. Instead Write views these letters as God's word to us, transmitted through the hand of one who was used by God in a mighty way. His scholarship is excellent, he writes extremely well, and he gives excellent responses to Liberal critical "scholars" like A. N. Wilson. Most importantly, Wright shows that it was Jesus Christ, not Paul who was the true founder of Christianity, and Paul faithfully preached the Gospel of Christ. Read this excellent book!

BIG HELP
This book really helped. After injuring myself went to the doctor who suggested lot's of medications, etc. Skeptical, I went to bookstore and came across this book. Found other treatment ideas in it and took it back to the doctor with me. He was shocked at my audacity, but agreed with the recommendation in the book. Saved me thousands of bucks and lots of grief. Doc said he was going to buy a copy. WOW

Great Book
Well thought out book. It takes every ache and pain and tells you how to fix it. Easy to read and clear in its directions. I stumbled across this book in store and am glad I did. It's a reference I will use often

Presenting thirty-six learning principles
What Video Games Have To Teach Us About Learning And Literacy by James Paul Gee (Tashia Morgridge Professor of Reading, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison) is a controversial yet thought-provoking look at interactive games and what can be learned from them. Persuasively presenting thirty-six learning principles that are built into good interactive video games, and contemplatively studying everything from issues of forming identity, to the acquisition of problem-solving skills, to learning non-verbal cues, What Video Games Have To Teach Us About Learning And Literacy sheds considerable light in a most extraordinary way on this rapidly evolving and increasingly pervasive aspect of American popular culture in the twenty-first century.

brilliant
I read through the entire book today, enthralled that an academic of the same generation as my parents finally "got" what made videogames (focusing on action, adventure, and rpg games) a fascinating medium both for players and creators. Furthermore, the author was then able to apply this knowledge to his area of expertise, educational theory. I knew videogames could be art, I knew that as simulations they could be political, but I never quite saw what seems to me perfectly obvious now, that good videogames of almost every variety teach us how to think and learn, and that they do this much better than our school system.

This book should be loved by anyone with a strong interest in videogame theory or educational theory, as it impressively doesn't simplify either area to fit the demands of the other.

I also applaud the organization of the book, as each section centers around a few key concepts of educational theory which are repeated in the appendix giving everyone who has read the book an easy way to recall the '36 learning principles'.

Every Recipe Is a Winner
I bought this cookbook this summer, more to add to my collection than to actually learn Thai cooking. But then I tried a few recipes, and I've been hooked on the cookbook ever since...

Having grown up in an Asian household, I'm already familiar with a lot of the ingredients and techniques used in Asian cooking, but I love the fact that this cookbook explains ingredients and technique without being condescending to those who aren't familiar with Asian cookery much less with the kitchen.

I usually use post-it notes to mark the recipes in a new cookbook that I want to try. When I started marking pages in this cookbook, I realized that I wanted to try everything. While I haven't had a chance to sample it all just yet, I can tell you that everything I've tried has been perfect. Even my boyfriend, who is definitely a "meat and potatoes" man loves when I prepare something from this book. I've also found that, despite the simplicity of the recipes, my dinner guests always assume that I went to elaborate lengths to prepare these wonderful foods. My favorite is an exquisite cilantro coconut chicken dish that just knocks the socks off of anyone who tries it.

Great beginner's cookbook.
This is one of my first Asian cookbooks. It's a great cookbook for beginners. Not only the instructions are clear and easy to follow, all the ingrediants in this book are easy to found in most grocery stores. I have tried several receipts on the day of my party, my guests were surprised and enjoyed the food very much. I am highly recommand this book for anyone who enjoying asian cooking.

Hard To Put Down!
This is a great book if you are interested in the complex reasoning for this crime. The book was informative in that it not only described one type of parricide: it included matricide by daughters and by just sons, and by both genders. They were presented in case study form that was easy to read and understand. Highly recommended if you are looking for a book that isn't filled with the complex psychology of many of these cases (it is from an experienced children's lawyers perspective)

An exceptionally insightful view of family violence.
When A Child Kills is an exceptionally insightful view of family violence and it's tragic outcome. Paul Mones shows us the unflinching truth of what we are doing to our children and what happens when they snap. With sensitivity for the real victims of parenticide, he describes, with numerous case examples, the various players in violent familial relationship and the almost predictable way that some children fight back. Mones discusses how some children are abused, unloved and humiliated repeatedly until they fear and loath their own parent. This fear and loathing mixes with the love they have for the parent and they end up feeling trapped and helpless. When they can no longer take the abuse or fear so desperately the next episode, they strike out at the moment they feel safest(usually when the parent is asleep). Mones explains how the child's fear is the very thing that makes the public believe the murder was in cold blood. I could say you won't want to put this book down but I found that I had to put it down frequently because I was shaking, I was so mad at the parents for the abuse and the untenable situation into which they put their own children. A disturbing, well written, thoughful, honest book. Robert Quinn-O'Connor robo@critpath.org Collingdale, PA, USA

Outstanding Book
The book by Ms. Lieberman brings opera divas right into your living room, as if transformed from the stage directly into your home. The pictures are amazingly vivid, and her ability to capture the moment with people is unparalleled. I think this is one of the best opera photo books ever printed! Brava!

I felt I was entering the inner world of Opera singers.
This is a new concept in an approach to Opera, photographs and text designed to allow the reader to enter into the thoughts and meditations of Opera singers as they are waiting backstage to go on. The pictures show the characters (and what a selection of roles and artists!), in physical and emotional readiness as they are backstage in Ms. Lieberman's ready made studio brought to the Opera during actual performances from around the world..the text by Paul Griffiths, (Music critic for the New Yorker and now The New York Times) brings you into their world in an imaginative and knowledgeable fashion, creating an inner dialogue of the performer and character. The book becomes a unique treasure in the combination of the photographer and writer. What a find! thedre@wenet.net

One of the absolute best, and I've read most of them
In the midst of a very terrible time in my life, I stumbled across this book. It blew me away. I have read many, many books on suffering and dealing with life's tragedies. This one is different in that it does not simply regurgitate the standard pat answers to why suffering exists and what to do when it happens ("Trials are actually a blessing! They'll make you a better person! Embrace them!" -- Give me a break.). Joel Freeman avoids preachy, sanctimonious language and never gets condescending. He gives you practical strategies for dealing with not only suffering and grief but the accompanying feelings of unfairness and "God's absence" that go along with these. My faith in God was strenghthened by my having read this book.

SO, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?
Sometimes life isn't fair, but we expect it to be...why else would we be so angry and hurt when it isn't. We wonder:

* If God is a God of love, why is there so much suffering in the world?
* Why do the wicked seem to prosper?
* Why do terrible things seem to happen to nice people?
* Why does life have to hurt so much?
* Isn't there an easier way to grow?
* Can any meaning be found in suffering?

Endorsed by the likes of Joni Eareckson Tada, Billy Graham, Paul Meier and others, When Life Isn't Fair: Making Sense Out of Suffering (Hardcover, 144 pages) presents helpful insight, poignant stories and touches of humor in revealing a biblical perspective on these questions. Written in a highly readable and thought-provoking style, author Joel A. Freeman, Ph.D. encourages readers to seek a greater understanding of their feelings through personal reflection. He also prompts discussion about their expectations of themselves, others and God.

Published by New leaf Press as part of the Trusting the Master series, Dr. Freeman's newly revised and reprinted book contains Bible verses that speak to specific situations. Drawing on his years of experience in counseling people through their grief and suffering, Dr. Freeman provides a framework upon which can be found true, lasting peace and security.

As a State of Maryland Board Certified Professional Counselor, Joel A. Freeman, Ph.D. holds a Master of Science degree in counseling from Loyola College (Baltimore) and also a Ph.D. in the same discipline. He served as mentor/chaplain for the NBA Washington Wizards for 19 years ('79-'98). As president of The Freeman Institute™, Dr. Freeman conducts team building/leadership/diversity/change management initiatives for leaders of other nations, government agencies, corporations and faith-based organizations. Joel and his family reside in Maryland.

Where Is Hope?

Great tool for congregational and personal evangelism!
We have used 400 copies of "Where is Hope" by Paul Cedar over the last few years in our 350 member church. We place them in our church pews in sealed envelopes marked "A Gift for Newcomers." The messages in "Where is Hope" are uplifting, and the photographic artwork is inspiring. Many people who visit a church for the first time are responding to a situation in their life where there is despair, pain, and a strong need for healing and, especially, hope. The selection of this book was based on its size...it fits the pew book rack well... and its message, which is needed and beautifully presented. The book is also useful as a witnessing tool in personal evengelism. It presents the Gospel of Christ in a personal and non-threatening manner to those who may be unfamiliar with or made uncomfortable by the arcane language used in the publications of most mainline churches.

This small book is packed with encouragement!
Today I'll give a dying friend my last copy. I'm sorry it is out of stock but HOPE it won't be long until I can order more.

This book says so much! I have used it personally and have given it to others.
