A Handy Historical Photo Collection
Collected and organized into a book, these photos give an overall impression of the big engines of railroad history. I wanted to get a feel for the work my grandfather did as brakeman in Minneapolis. This book includes two spectacular wrecks and some precious human group photos, so it fulfills my purpose very well.

Great Easy Activities for Montessori at Home Taught by Mom
This was recommended to me by a montessori teacher soon to develop his own website. The book is truly great for the at home mom. The activities are simple but do the same job as the ones in the school and everything is explained. How to make the materials and exactly how to deliver the lesson. It also has a great bibliography with many ideas. This book should be reprinted it is very useful and does not overwhelm the mom that does not have the montessori training the teachers have. Great to prepare your child while waiting to get into a school.

Great resource for children, adults, and teachers
This photographic atlas is simple to read, yet detailed enough to provide a good geographic overview of the entire timeline in the Bible. Text is well-written, and maps are clear and comprehensive. It is great for children, but also provides a two-page historical summary and map for each event that is a perfect overview for adults and teachers as well. This would be a valuable reference resource for any church library

Great summary of chimpanzee behavior
The book surveys our current scientific understanding of chimpanzee behavior. Both common chimpanzees and bonobos are covered. I doubt any reasonable person who read this book would challenge the notion that the term "culture" is applicable to chimpanzees. I particularly liked the sections on social relations and cognition. Anyone wanting to understand human behavior would do well to read this book.

China's X files revealed
Really interesting. Dong digs up some marvellous facts about the paranormal in China, including UFO sightings, ESP, psychic powers, martial arts, and the bigfoot of China. Opens up a huge area for further research, as we are normally not used to this kind of phenomena in China. Should be read by anyone interested in paranormal events and those who want to separate facts from hoaxes.

Cooking for a crowd
I used to check this book out constantly from the library on the local Army base. Chow provides a look at cooking in the field in mass quantity. The author provides an overview of military cooking from a historical viewpoint and includes many recipes. It is interesting to see how to cook for 400 people at one time. This is great reading for those interested in cooking and military history. This book SHOULD be reprinted.

Christ and the End of Meaning
Published in Paperback by Harper Collins - UK (June, 1994)
Author: Paul Hessert
Amazon base price: $14.95
Used price: $12.65
Average review score:

A foolish stumbling block
Paul Hessert brilliantly disects the Christian life and separates Christian thinking from the infiltration of secular and religious thought which owes more to the greeks than Christ. Hessert opens up the new testament (and old) in way that leaves you with nothing except trust in God through Christ crucified. A wonderfull exposition on the the Gospel, the real message, and how Paul and the Writers of the new testament try to show the message of Christ crucuified as the Good news ,as a stumbling block to those seeking signs and as foolishness to those seeking wisdom. Starting with Corinthians and moving through Mark and the other Gospel writers and on to the rest of the new testament, Hessert Brilliantly captures the life of the Christian and how we are "in the world but not of the world"

I really believe that Hessert's look at our modern Western world and its related and misguided views of God (both secular and Christian) is outstanding, origional and true to the Gospel. I did find that Hessert can be difficult to read at times often using complicated grammar and long and convoluted sentences. I do believe that the thinking and insights revealed in this book are worth the effort of the read.

I would recommend this book highly to those who will accept a challenge and don't mind being changed in their thinking, because Hessert leaves no Holy Cow alone. This is a tough one, read it with a friend to allow open debate and comment and help with tough thoughts, but well worth the read and highly recomended. This will be a good read for serious studiers of God's word and normal folk like myself, but be warned Hessert won't leave you alone and will seriously challenge you.
