As a Swiss I read this book with great pleasure since it is very funny but true indeed. As a foreign reader you will find lots of hints and information to help you understand Swiss mentality and differnces between cultures in one small country. (What is a Luftschutzkeller?) As a Swiss you will realize how others see us... and that much of it is quite true!

This is really not a guide book in the traditional sense. That is, you can't find out where to get a decent hotel, day excursion, or meal in Switzerland by reading this book. Rather Bilton, an Englishman, comments on the culture he learned after marrying a Swiss woman and living in her country for the last 10 years or so. His insights into the Swiss people, particularly their attitudes, behaviors, and societal structure are insightful and often hilarious. Switzerland is surprisingly diverse and too often overlooked by those studying European history and culture. It's easy to not look beyond the image of banks, watches, and chocolates to get to know the people behind the stereotypes. This witty book cuts to the chase and is at times quite irreverant, though certainly not offensive. It's one thing to eat rösti. It's another to understand the röstigraben. This book explains both.

Like the author, I too am married to a Swiss woman and read this book prior to a two-month trip to Zurich to study German and learn more about my wife's parent culture. I found this little book a surprising and entertaining resource. Time and time again, I found my experiences meeting and getting to know the Swiss strangely reminiscent of the pages of this book. I even loaned it to Swiss friends who concurred that its observations was right on the money. So I read the book again at the conclusion of the trip--and laughed aloud even more the second time. It's a quick read, for more detailed insights from Bilton, see his diary "the Perpetual Tourist", which covers similar ground.

I work in the U.S. for the Swiss. This little book (you can read it in an hour or two) is very funny and fun to read. At the same time, it is amazingly insightful with regards to Swiss culture, customs and people. I sometimes give it to others doing business with the Swiss. On the whole, it paints the Swiss in a positive light, but also offers up good fodder for ribbing my Swiss colleagues. What a wonderful way to teach children about art! And, not only are young readers introduced to two of the most colorful and compelling artists, but they also garner lessons in learning from one another and getting along with others.

During the autumn of 1888 these two mercurial artists shared a home in the south of France. Lonely and wanting the company of other painters van Gogh invited Gauguin to share his home in Arles. For some two months the men worked in close proximity to one another.

Disagree? Of course, they.did. In addition to technique and style they probably argued about a number of things. One thing they did agree on was that they could learn from each other.

Regrettably at that time van Gogh was on the brink of his nervous breakdown, and when that occurred Gauguin fled to Paris.

But it's Jos. A. Smith's artwork that really makes this book stand out. Working in public accounting for a long time, but beeing new to the accounting world in the U.S., I found this book very instructive and helpful to resolve practical questions on one hand and finding access to the underlying "World of Statements", the scientific backbone, at the same time.

First it offers a red thread through most of the relevant areas of accounting and financial reporting. But even more important, the book contains a reliable and quick guidance to find solutions for a lot of different actual practical issues, occurring in specific industries and situations.

This set is the most comprehensive, informative, and complete writing on accounting. No other book is necessary! These are hard to find though. Good luck!

I've been a big fan of Greg's art directing work (in both Cleveland and Florida) for many years and he certainly didn't disappoint here. Given the horrible vagaries of the book business in general, I, for one, am glad this book exists. (And, he did "fair use" for most of the images, which is cool.)

I am an artist with a keen interest in psychedelic art, and found this book a very useful reference guide. unfortunately i lent to to a freind who tore most of the pages out. in W.A. i cannot get it anywhere so I thank you amazon for having it amongst your titles!

"75 Seasons" is a coffee table book for the football fanatic. Chocked full of great pictures and stories, it also features the NFL's 75 year all time greatest team, position by position. It is a great gift book for any football fan.

75 seasons is a great trip through NFL history. The drawings may be a little strange, but the text is fantastic and the pictures are classic. The highlight of the book was the all-time team picks. It is undoubtedly a list that would stir up arguments, but you can't disagree with the picks that are there. From Grange to Baugh, Sayers to Smith, and everywhere in between, the background and rich tradition of the NFL is consumed all within this exceptional book.

I read this monograph years ago and lent it to someone who obviously found it equally fascinating because I've never had it back. If risk is a theme in your work, the ideas in Fischoff and Lichtenstein's book are worth reading. They offer explanations and analysis which seem to match how real people and organisations take risk decisions.END

This is a brilliant and stimulating book. Although it nominally concerns itself with the area of hazard management, policy and technology choices associated with loss of life or limb, it provides a great deal of insight into all forms of risk management and formal decision making.

A very well-researched book, it is obvious that the authors have not only thought long and hard about the subject matter, but have also applied a very disciplined analysis to it. Although the authors are scholars, the book is not necessarily aimed at an academic audience. While challenging, it is still approachable by the lay person.

The text does not recommend any particular methodology for decision making, but instead provides a context within which different decision making methods can be understood and evaluated. It begins by analyzing the problems confronting all acceptable risk decisions, discussing '5 generic complexities' that negatively affect all forms of formal risk analysis. Then the authors provide '7 criteria for evaluating the acceptability of approaches to acceptable risk.' The remainder of the book is spent analyzing approaches to risk management on a spectrum of empirical to formal methods, using their 7 criteria.

I found it an extremely enlightening text with applicability beyond that stated by the authors. It sheds light on many of the 'formal' methods that have been developed for areas of concern to me, specifically in the Information Security field, which often tends towards voodoo analysis based on unstated assumptions and incomplete methodologies. Although it was written over 20 years ago, it still provides a great deal of utility and insight today. One of the text's final recommendations is that the field of Risk Management be made into a formal career choice, with all of the 'formal trappings'. It is a tribute to the foresight of the authors that this is exactly what is happening today, with the emergence of the Chief Risk Officer role, trade journals devoted to the generic concept of risk, and ever greater academic attention and career training in risk management.

I read with intererst the story of the Del Buono family as they fought for services for their son/brother. Barbara obviously has tremendous faith courage and strength. Her husband and children, esp. Mary, are also amazing. As the mother of a brain injured son I also am caught in the maze of TBI--and it is not pretty. Barbara has done a good job describing nursing home situations. Even though Nick's nursing home experience was years ago conditions in these homes, at least in Indiana, for TBI survivors has not changed enough. Reading this book has helped give me the strength to continue to fight for services for my TBI son.

It is an excellent resource which can help us all to deal with the difficulties of life and use them to create a better world where the wounded are cared for with heart, not just hands.

Author Paul Stroble has crafted a wonderful story with real characters and an honest view of life in a small Midwestern town. This novel revolves around Becky, a wonderfully independent woman in all matters except her ties to her hometown. Throughout the novel, Stroble weaves excellent subplots through romance, history and a great group of supporting characters. Stroble offers a realistic look at small town life, and addresses the attitudes of the urban population towards that way of life. Adams Street Antiques provides an outstanding main character with a strong supporting cast, a nice romance and a view of everyday life in a small Midwestern town. Great leisure reading

Adams Street Antiques is so satisfying, it gets my vote as the perfect book to curl up with on a quiet rainy day. Author Paul Stroble does for small town Illinois what Jan Karon does for the Blue Ridge Mountains: Stroble's description of "Mayersburg", its citizens and history is so charming, you'll think you're there---and if you're not, you'll want to be. Main character Becky Harmon is one of the most likeable, unpretentious thirtysomethings in recent fiction history, and her friends and family reflect a spectrum of colorful personalities. Whether you're a history buff, a Midwest-phile, an antiques collector, or just someone who wants to read a good, clean, well-written story, get this book. Make a pot of tea and spend an afternoon with Becky Harmon. You'll be glad you did.

Don't let the title scare you. Even readers who are interested in "neotropics" as a whole can appreciate the technical nature of this volume of work. A progressively written volume on primate behavior that will "fuel the mind" of the "budding primate enthusiest" and titilate the seasoned taste buds of researchers and scientist alike. A serious read for serious brains. The title sure did a major face lift to my expanding bookcase.

I found this book informative, but an unnecessary read.If you have a brain that functions at a level above a 10-year-old's mind, then this book will not teach you anything new.Yes You Can reiterates the importance of saving your money to build interest, but spending enough so you get the most you can for the value of a dollar. You should have a budget and decide what to buy carefully. Plan for the future. Personally, I feel this book should be retitled "Idiot's guide to money." Yes You Can may be vital for some, but hopefully common sense exists in most.

I have two of this book and loan to young people to read. This book teaches the importance and benifits of investing in an easy manner. The book is tops and so is it's author.

I was initially attracted to this book because I have several mutual funds with Mr Stowers company-AMERICAN CENTURY INVESTORS (formerly 20th Century Investors) Stowers espouses the power of mutual fund investing, valuable at a time when many literally deify individual stocks, includes charts and how to pick mutual fund winners--as Stowers states; "All mutual funds are not equal, some are better than others" Finding money to invest and post retirement strategies. The personal survey included in the book is like a financial check up and future planner. If you want to make a profit from investing and get the most from mutuals this is the book for you. I also highly recommend "MORE WEALTH W/O RISK" by Charles J. Givens and 'Mutual Fund Strategies" by Jack Dicks.
