Every Woman Should Read this Book!
A rare voice of reason and compassion. Dr. Dixon-Mueller gives us a chance to look clear-eyed at the facts . . . and the facts speak for themselves. Every woman should read this book! -- along with every single person involved on either side of the debate. Bravo!

A welcome voice for sanity
If you're looking for an intelligent, informative and readable discussion of why abortion needs to be safe, legal and accessible, this is the book for you. The authors focus on the realities of unwanted pregnancies and on women's experiences with legal and illegal abortion in the U.S., Canada and worldwide. An estimated 48 million of the world's women terminate their pregnancies every year, some safely, many dangerously. Others bear unwanted children. In the U.S. four women in ten will have at least one abortion in their lifetime. ABORTION & COMMON SENSE explains why "perfect contraception" is elusive; the reasons for contraceptive failure or nonuse; the process of abortion decision-making; safe and unsafe procedures and their physical and emotional effects; and the legal, medical, and political environments--both domestic and international--that affect women's access to safe services. Demonstrating that restricting legal access is both unworkable and unfair, the authors conclude that safe and early abortion services should be an integral element of good medical care and a rational social policy. A Quick Quiz at the beginning of the book tests your knowledge of abortion laws and practices. You may be surprised!

Dr. Fowler leads the way!
As always, Dr. Paul Fowler leads the way with his excellent biblical knowledge and balanced theology. Having personally learned from this great Biblical Scholar while a student at Knox, I can only give him the highest ratings and the deepest gratitude for instilling in us his great hunger for a strong biblical theology. Dr. Fowler, thanks again, from one of your spiritual children.

An honest treatment of Evangelical ambivalence
It is too bad this book is out of print. It is/was an honest history of how Evangelicals helped legalize abortion in the United States.

Fowler mentions what many Evangelicals try to conceal or forget. i.e. in the late 60's many of them were 'pro-choice' and clamoring for relaxing the laws against abortion.

His treatment of Christianity Today's 1968 symposium on abortion and birth control is excellent. It was then that the greatest minds in the Evangelical world got together to discuss abortion (as if the topic had never been addressed in the 1,935 years of Christianity prior to that time).

They concluded NOTHING, only that abortion laws needed to be relaxed, particularly in the cases of failed birh control and handicapped fetuses.

Fowler documents graphically the 'about-face' of prominent Evangelicals such as Dr. Norman Geisler, and Jim Wallis. I wonder if they appreciated it.

We use this book everytime we go out for dinner!
Having read lots of "guidebooks" about cities both in the states and in other countries, I can confidently recommend this book as one of the most comprehensive and usable! As residents of the Twin Cities, our household brings out this book everytime we want to know more about a building we've seen, when we want to know how late the zoo is open, or when we can't decide where to have a great dinner out. It is fun to read, very well organized by areas of the cities, and includes great information, such as history of neighborhoods and buildings, menu recommendations for restaurants, and where to find "hidden" locales. Excellent!

This is a great book
Unlike all the other Minneapolis guide books i saw. this one has an entire chapter about the mall of america (which is the whole reason for our trip to minneapolis), but it lists and describes many of the stores (especially the unusual and unique ones), and it has interesting facts about the mall. The book also has great maps. And the best part is, it color codes it's entries. Parks and outdoor activities are printed in green, hotels are in blue, resturaunts in red, etc. This book was a huge help in planning what to do and how long to stay.

Excellent Tool for Students
I had every intention of majoring in accounting when I started college. This was the textbook used in my first two accounting classes, and I was quite pleased. The book is incredibly user-friendly. It reads like a regular book, and doesn't just beat you over the head with facts as most textbooks do. However, this doesn't mean it is all fluff. The information presented is clear and concise. As you read the book even gives real world applications of "Accounting in Action", applicable to the material in the chapter. Some of these examples are fascinating.

Here's how much I like this book... I am taking a cost accounting class now and when I get confused by something in that book I refer to the last chapter in Accounting Principles, which is Managerial Accounting. And more often than not I get a better explanation.

The Perfect Tool
An Excellent text to complement the teaching of financial accounting fundamentals. Reccomended on a 100%.

The Aconceptual Mind: Heideggerian Themes in Holistic Naturalism (Advances in Consciousness Research, Vol 11)
Published in Paperback by John Benjamins Publishing Co. (July, 1998)
Authors: Pauli Pylkko and Paul Pylkko
Amazon base price: $41.95
Collectible price: $59.95
Average review score:

Well written combo of abstract Martin & grounded cogsci.
Pauli engaging, converstional writing style makes the application of Heidegger's toughest themes to current cognitive science research clear and exciting.

A very controversial book!
This is a very controversial book, one which is not frightened to deal with some of the mind blowing consequences of holistic naturalism and quantum theory. The most controversial chapter deals with Fascism. Pylkko blows open wide the present debate on whether or not Martin Heidegger was a Fascist - a point that Pylkko says is obvious - by asking us not to simply re-review Heidegger's writings but asking us moreover to ask what Fascism REALLY is. For Pylkko, Fascism isn't merely about anti-semiticism and war-mongering - although they were 2 of its later consequences - but about a radical conceptual relativism! In a word, cultures can't ultimately understand one another; and this is more complex than Wittgenstein's notion of "forms of life", according to which one needs to understand the lifeworld of people not just their language. But the driving force behind Pylkko's argument isn't mere opinion, or yet more phenomenology, but a scientific view, a sort of meta! physics, or ultimately anti-metaphysics, based upon notions within the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum theory.

New Age bookstores are full of shelves devoted to developing social models derived from quantum physics, but Pylkko's book is the only book on this issue which is based upon a highly sophisticated philosophical argument. I highly recommend this book.

It's true! You can eat dandelions and acorns!
Simply fascinating book on ordinary plants in your own yard. Great recipes and very entertaining. I did not know you could eat half of this stuff! Wowie!

Colorful and inviting
This is the first wild-foods book I have found that is ideal for children. Preteens and young teenagers can be intimidated or overwhelmed by Billy Joe Tatum, or tuned out to the personal story flavor of Euell Gibbons. This book is so clear and so beautifully illustrated-- it is perfect to get young people involved in the foraging lifestyle. It's botanically precise, as well, to assuage the fears of worried mothers! The book is not just for young people, of course; it is a joy for foragers of all ages.

Activstats 2.0

An excellent learning tool.
Activestats is a complete introductory stats course using multimedia. The CD-ROM contains both Mac and Windows versions and it is intended for use with David More's text: The Active Practice of Statistics. Together these materials make an excellent package for the self-learner. Very clear and well put together. The one minor downfall, however, is that it assumes one is up-to-date with one's math skills. For this reason, I also found it usefull to purchase Alan Grahms's Teach Yourself Statisics to use for occasional reference.

Excellent for college students!
This software uses video clips, sound effects, interactive problems, and some great visual statistic tools to bring statistics concepts to life. Starts with means, histograms, etc. and proceeds with Central Limit Theorem, and finishes with Hypothesis testing and statistical inference. The included statistics software package is good too, but perhaps a bit dry. I am using this with the David S. Moore book "Active Practice of Statistics". For the self-learner, I can imagine nothing better than these two items.

A Spiritual Visit To The Adirondacks!
With an introduction by legend Paul Jamieson, we are immediately transported into the Adirondacks as seen through the eye of an established photographer. Nathan Farb has been at his profession for years and this collection of streams, waterfalls, rivers, mountain peaks, deep woods, lakes and ponds is one of his absolute best. His lens captures the spirit; the essence of the view. Every photo evokes a sense of spirituality and timelessness. You become witness to a breathtaking array of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Beautiful region - Beautiful photography
The Adirondacks are truly one of America's great wilderness areas. Using a 8-by-10 inch Deardorff camera, Nathan Farb beautifully photographs many Adirondack scenes here. Author Paul Jamieson provides an introductory essay on the area's geography, unique qualities, and ecological importance. If one has visited the Adirondacks, one will find this book a vivid reminder of this special region. If one hasn't been to the Adirondacks, this book should compel them as much as anything to make a trip there.

If you're serious about marketing on the Internet ...
This book worked so well for me, I'm being presented at the International Coach Federation conference as an example of branding! I also brand clients on the Internet, and found this book tremendously helpful. It gave me theory, but also vocabulary for explaining complex concepts to clients -- as to why I insisted on this or that for their websites, email responses, etc. For instance, Mr. Temporal asked research participants to rate personalities of two companies with Internet presences. He found that consumers preferred to buy from the company that appeared "easy going, modest, helpful, caring, approachable, and interested," rather than those that appeared "sophisticated, arrogant, efficient, self-centered, distant and disinterested." And, not surprisingly, the latter company was ahead in the competition. It helped me resolve those efficiency-care issues we face. If you're serious about having a branded presence on the Internet, I'd take a look at this book if I were you.

Essential reading
This book presents easy-to-understand theories with eye-opening examples. It provides food for thoughts to those who are serious about developing brands. After reading it, you will understand why Philip Kotler described it as one of the best books on brand management.

Excellent C Examples
This book provides many excellent C examples and techniques in array manipulation, pointers and some other techniques. Very good reference for professional programmer.

An excellent composition of advanced concepts and reference.
It takes you through the rough edges of C in great detail unlike other "highly rated" books which merely presents concepts. Discussion on RTE, compact pointer experessions are a special treat. It makes you look at C with a "compiler perspective", a must for an advanced background. Recommended for everyone who likes C and wants to get serious!!
