Boller has filled his book with a number of anecdotes covering Presidential Inaugurations from Washington to George W. Bush. All of the Inaugurations are described in neatly arranged chapters from picking the day, coping with the weather to the inaugural parades and balls.

Along the way, Boller details how much inauguration day has changed from the early 1800's to today. For example: in the 1800's, the morning procession was the big event, not the balls; dancing by the president didn't become fashionable until Lyndon Johnson took to the floor (I thought they all danced); and Washington knowing that everything he did, or didn't do, would set a precedent for future presidents.

Boller also gives you an insight into the President's mood on inauguration day: Calvin Coolidge exclaiming to his wife on Hoover's inauguration that, "it always rains on moving day." JFK leaving an inaugural ball to party with Frank Sinatra; and Lincoln delivering his second inaugural address. Boller also reviews the Vice-Presidents, be sure to check out the story of Charles G. The book is certainly not a serious piece of work, but that just makes its all the more accessible and most importantly, enjoyable.

Presidential Inaugurations by Paul F. Boller Jr. provides an important historical account of Presidential Inaugurations from George Washington to George W. Bush. This entertaining and often humorous work is a must have for individuals interested in the human side of politics and the history of the United States. This well researched work is well worth the modest list price, and it makes an excellent addition to the libraries of individuals interested in the history of the Presidency.

Jamieson and Waldman offer a highly critical overview of media coverage, focusing on the 2000 Presidential election, but also touching on historical issues such as the Nixon Presidency and the Gulf of Tonkin incident. They are equally critical of the coverage given to Bush and Gore, in an impressive display of non-partisanship that is lacking in our media today. They encourage reporters to research the statements by candidates and to not simply accept the frame given to them by interested parties but to investigate and to put a truly fair and balanced frame around it. One issue that they note but could have gone into more detail on is that the media almost universally present issues as a for/against disagreement, whereas in reality there are often (I might argue almost always) more than two points of view on a given issue and the press ignores all but the two that are most easily reduced to sound bites.

The press is in crisis--it no longer serves its most important role, which is to cut through political spin to get at the facts. Jamieson and Waldman make a convincing case that the press is so intent on creating compelling storylines that it has lost its critical edge.

For all journalists out there--please read it!

Detailed, methodical book about movie production. Great for a handbook/manual which I can refer to again and again. Quite useful and I highly recommend it. The appendices are simply brilliant (detailed pro forma financial statements, sample contracts and other essential docs).

The authors TRIED to spice up the text with an anecdote here and there, but it still reads somewhat like a textbook. Thus, buy the book if you're looking for real content, not juice.

This is one book that combined it well! "Professional ADO.NET with VB.NET" is the text to grab, if you are a .NET programmer who wants to learn more about .NET data access technology.
The book has a consistent practical approach to issues. It is full of grounded information, which would ensure that programmers execute their tasks with unflinching confidence.
This book has a result-oriented outlook. Its authoritative analyses of cross-platform programming issues are flawless. All the important classes, (DataSets, DataAdapters, e.t.c.), which constitute ADO.NET received generous attention. However, all these expanded ADO.NET tutorials came at the expense of VB.NET, whose underlying parameters received little attention. Still, this is a valuable book to have.

This book is typical Wrox: it offers a comprehensive coverage of the subject in a very easy to follow fashion. It starts with several chapters covering the core ADO.NET classes - DataReaders, DataAdapters, DataSets. As the ADO.NET DataSet is a class with very rich features, this book discusses each facet of it - from the ADO Recordset-like generic disconnected in-memory data presentation with constraints, relationships to strongly typed DataSet, and finally to the built-in support of XML. The later chapters then introduces advanced features such as web services, SQL Server XML support, Performance, Security, etc.

A minor inconsistency is that some examples in the book use Console Application interface, while most others use Windows Application, perhaps reflecting the fact of this being a multi-author book. But as far as learning ADO.NET is concerned, this is really not a issue.

Oh, if you already owns its predecessor - Professional ADO.NET, which is written with C#, you might want to keep it and skip this one because it's mostly the same contents in different language (VB.NET). But if you haven't got either, it's definitely worth a very close look at this title.

Secularism has evolved to become the "state religion" in North America largely due to the work of the five key figures: Carl Jung, Erich Fromm, Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow, and Rollo May. Judeo-Christian leaders who accepted this teaching must now concentrate on the result and accept the responsibility to alter the wrong direction society has taken because of these teachings.

The separation of state and religion was a concept that was nullified by secularism as it has become interwoven into the fabric of North American society. Millions of tax dollars are used to perpetuate this state religion. For example, schools of education in colleges and universities nation-wide have trained teachers, counselors, school administrators and those who train them in the "cult" of secular humanism. Secular humanism is devotion to self-expression as an end in itself. It " emphasized the human capacity for change to the point of almost totally ignoring the idea that life has limits and that knowledge of those limits is the basis of wisdom. For selfist there seem to be no acceptable duties, denials, inhibitions, or restraints. Instead there are only rights and opportunities for change." (page 33) When a child is taught that he or she is the most important person in the world, in the guise of building self-esteem that child's response to authority is often since-I-am-the-most-important-person-in-the-world-why should-I-listen-to-you?!! With every news broadcast and every paper across both Canada and the U.S. we daily see the result of this wrong thinking/teaching.

There is much more to this book. I hope you will chose to read it for yourself. I also hope it will inspire other authors to explore, challenge and dethrone the state religion of secularism.

Have you ever looked around at American culture and wondered what went wrong. . .what is wrong? Paul Vitz gives us a goldmine of insight into the origin of modern angst. The strength of the book is that it is easily understandable for the layman, but lays out financial reporting issues and logical directions to proceed for the accounting and financial reporting community. I hope it causes a stir.I also found it very entertaining.

I believe all of us would agree that GAAP in its current form has many problems accurately reporting the truth regarding a company's financial picture to the users of financial statements. An excellent book entitled "Quality Financial Reporting" should be required reading for all focus investors as it provides an impressive overview of what is wrong with GAAP, why FASB has been unable to function properly, and suggests possible solutions.

The authors are straight shooters and as such I think they will find no friends among the accounting "establishment" but they certainly point out the flaws in GAAP thereby helping focus investors better understand the financial statements they are examining.

Rachel and Annie is a sensitively written book. This novel focuses on an old sea captain's love of the sea, his granddaughter and Annie his 45-foot sailboat. It is a heart-warming story dealing with the basic emotions of love, grief, life and death. The author provides the landlubber with deeper understanding of the bond between man and the sea. Dr. Seifert clearly depicts the Maine coast culture and towns as well as the intricacies of sailing. The reader is provided with a helpful glossary of nautical terms at the end of the book. I found it to be a story that was hard to lay down once started--one where I laughted and cried with the characters and felt warm and good as I closed the back cover and passed it on to a friend to read.

Given the salacious nature of much of the fiction on the market today, this beautifully moving love story is a delightful read. Lovemaking is implied, but not described in sordid anatomical detail. Be forwarned that hankies should be close at hand, however. The love affair between Tom and Anna O'Connor is absolutely inspiring in this age of broken relationships and instant divorce.
Rachel is one of the most endearing young girls I have ever encountered in a lifetime of reading. She meets the challenge of a harrowing, life threatening experience at sea. Tom becomes the kind of grandfather to Rachel that any young girl would love to have.
The style of this novel is poetically descriptive. The concluding pages contain some of the finest writing I have encountered in years.
If you enjoy books that don't let you put them down, books that excite you, and that leave a warm feeling in your heart long after you have finished them, RACHEL & ANNIE is for you. As you read this story, you will learn much about angels, sailing, and life on the sea, but you will learn even more about the importance of family and love. Refreshingly, love is the only four-letter word in RACHEL & ANNIE. Don't miss this wonderful novel!

The illustrations in this book are beautiful. I strongly believe in introducing children to the animals and habitat of the rain forest. This book is very basic, as the only text is the name of each animal on the left page with a picture of the animal on the right. It lists eight animals and shows a large picture of the rain forest in the opening and ending pages.

I recommend this book for children up to three years old. Older children will probably want more of a story.

Gorgeous and captivating illustrations! Right now we look at the pictures and talk about the names and sounds of the animals. There is a simple accompaning prose to each animal that should maintain her interest when she is older. One of my daughter's favorites!

The book gives you everything: from how to plan a sassion and arranging all the way to mastering. Full of usefull tips and techinques to get the job done. Setting up mics for acoustic guitar and using the right effect on vocals is easy after reading this book.

I was a bit surprised about the lack of reviews for this book, because it is the ONLY book I ever reference when I run into a problem in the studio. And believe me, I own a lot of books on recording.

I bought this book in 1999 and have had no need to even look for other books on recording since. What makes this book so much better than the others is the quality of the information. Every sentence and tip in the recording section conveys a new useful point. There is absolutley no extraneous information here. All the techniques that I have learned from this book have worked like magic. Acoustic guitars and vocals have never sounded better.

The only downside of this book is the lack of a chapter on recording bass guitar. There is an entire chapter devoted to the future of ananlog tape, but absolutely nothing on recording bass guitar. Otherwise, the book is fantastic, and easily worth the [money] price. Happy recording...

When I read "The Remora" by Dr. Aaron P. Small, I realized this book is different from much of today's fiction. It brought back some of the atmosphere of forty years ago--sensitivity, gentleness and thought provocation. Noticeably absent were the violence and unabashed sex of many of our books of today. Not just a love story, there was an examination of morality and social responsibility.
