Radiological anatomy made easy
This profusely illustrated text will give residents in radiology the basic anatomy needed to form a solid foundation for a complete radiologist. It however does not contain tables for easy reading and review.
The pictures are explicit and help to further reinforce understanding of the text.

Basic anatomy for Radiologists
A very well organised and profusely illustrated text which provides information on anatomy as related to and conventional radiology and more sophisticated radiological forms of investigation like the magnetic resonance imaging. First year residents would find the book useful as it provide the basic anatomic knowledge needed in making diagnosis. This book is a must for radiologists!

A Most Expensive Lesson
This book costs about 50 cents a page - that is not obvious from the description - for that price you'd expect 500 pages, it is less than 150.

Give me a line and I will sell you my copy for half the price.

GOOD BOOK
I think that this is a good book for anyone who wants a job in this field. And you probably don't think so but I do and I am only 15 years old.

So give this merchandising book a try and see how you like it.

A Surprisingly Interesting Survey of Archaeology
"Archaeology Detectives" is a pretty interesting little book. The general editor is Paul Bahn, a well-known archaeologist who is also the editor of the "Cambridge History of Archaeology." The contributors are scientists who appear to be well-qualified to write on the subjects they are discussing--there are no lay authors to misunderstand or sensationalize things, nor are there any tales of Ancient Astronauts or Atlantis.

The book is chronologically arranged within sections on Africa, Europe, Asia, and New World/Oceania. It is also well illustrated, with many color photographs of sites, remains and artifacts.

Published in 2001, "Archaeology Detectives" also reviews some cutting-edge developments. For example, the chapter on "Sterkfontein: The Case of Little Foot" tells the story of how archaeologists used some foot bones in a box to locate an Australopithecine skeleton. That skeleton is still being removed from the rock at Sterkfontein, but it is already producing a wealth of information about ancient hominids.

My only criticism of the book is that some of the articles are a bit too short--the piece on Masada, for example, is tantalizing but ends abruptly. Of course, this is a "Reader's Digest" book, so I suppose that isn't surprising.

If you enjoy "Archaeology Detectives," you might want to take a look at the well-illustrated "Seventy Great Mysteries of the Ancient World" (edited by Brian Fagan). That book also features short articles written by qualified scientists, though it covers ground that is generally different from that explored in "Archaeology Detectives."

Most excellent indeed
This excellent book is a collection of essays written by various social scientists and divided into four sections: 1)Africa, 2)Europe, 3)Asia, and 4)New World and Oceania. These essays, accompanied by coloured diagrams, maps, and photographs, detail some of the more interesting discoveries made in their section's locations. Some of the essays are a bit short, but they are all interesting and will keep you up to date on the latest (and older) archaeological discoveries and even the methods used by modern archaeologists to uncover information of the past. An incredible book that should be read by anyone with even a mild interest in archaeology, anthropology, and ancient history.

ARE Practice Exam: Multiple-Choice Divisions

Excellent Preparation
Although this book is just question and answer, it definately introduces the complexity and broad range of questions asked on the exam to the candidate. I found that, although the exam does ask a broader range of questions than this study guide, it does help tremendously. I do recommend this study guide for the ARE. I did find however, that several questions in this manual (maybe 5% to 15%) were repeated in other study material. Other than that - I'd invest the money and get it.

Are : Practice Exam, Multiple-Choice Divisions
this is one of the best Brief book of Q/A which prepares you for the final ARE of all the subjects. -satyen

Great Book!
This book really helped my children with their geographic skills! I would reccomend this book to any family with children!

A Virtual Vacation!
This is SUCH a neat book! Phineas and his daughter embark on a world tour in his hot air balloon. At each stop, Phineas does some sightseeing and his daughter does some shopping, purchasing souvenirs found in each country. The pictures are comical, the rhyming story is fun, and the puzzle is challenging, though not difficult. My 4 year old and I have gone through the book and it held her attention the whole time. I had thought we might need to read through it in several sittings. We haven't solved the puzzles at the end of the book yet. My 9 year old will be able to solve the puzzles on her own. They involve going back through the book, looking at the places they stopped and what they collected (and lost), then taking letters from these words to spell the answers to the puzzles. FUN!

Good for the beginner, but lacking for the experienced
It is a very good book for the beginning sculpturist, but I found it lacking in technically challenging designs & creations. The Design Gallery at the end is good.

This book is an excellent book especially for the beginner.
I have reviewed this book by Paul Jackson. The book shows step by step to create projects that show in the book. The book provides many information about equipments and techniques required to do paper sculpture. I have read others paper sculpture books and this book is my first choice. I have created projects using techniques provide in this book.

Arvo Part (Oxford Studies of Composers (Cloth))
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (June, 1997)
Author: Paul Hillier
Amazon base price: $58.00
Average review score:

Scholarly
Paul Hillier has been a leading exponent of Arvo Part's music for many years now, and this book is yet another delectable fruit of his relationship with the composer and his music.

The book is divided into very neat chapters, giving a thorough and systematic break-down of Part's musical career- from his neo-classical student works to his early experiments with serialism (he was the first Estonian composer to write serial music); his period of silence when he sought a new, simpler means of self-expression; and finally his discovery of the "tintinnabuli" style. Paul Hillier's first encounter with Part was through performing his tintinnabuli works, thus the book focusses mostly on them. Performers and critics have often complained that the music is too simple; Hillier reveals that there is more to it than meets the eye, and in particular his descriptions of the large-scale cantatas such as "Passio" and "Miserere" make for solid reading. Impressively, Hillier does not neglect the earlier serial works such as "Nekrolog" and the controversial "Credo" - music that sounds almost like that of another composer. Perhaps disappointingly, he opts not to go into Part's biographical details beyond a basic account of his childhood musical experiences and the problems he faced for many years in his Soviet-annexed homeland. He does however explore Russian Orthodox views on music and minimalism, an understanding of which is helpful in developing an understanding of Part's music. Finally, he offers his ideas on performing it: an extremely well-written and useful chapter, as is the appendix which lists the key recordings of most of the tintinnabuli and some of the serial works.

It takes some getting into: Hillier reveals himself to be a fine musicologist and makes some very detailed analyses, but many of the terms he uses can be baffling to the casual reader. Music students are thus the likeliest customers to benefit from the purchase of this book. As a music student myself, I find this book 'un-put-downable'!

An excellent guide to Part's music for beginners & experts
Paul Hillier is certainly qualified to write a book about the music of Arvo Part. Not only is Hillier a brilliant musician in his own right, but he has collaborated with Part many times in the last decade or so to produce many splendid recordings as well as giving many world premier concert performances of Part's work. Here we are given "an insider view" on how this music was written. Short of Part writing a book himself, this is the closest a listener will ever get to being inside the mind of this enigmatic, quite, reserved and extremely gifted composer. There is only about 10 pages or so devoted to biography, the rest is purely about the music.

Hillier's explanations of the pieces are so thorough that one can literally read along with the book while listening to the corresponding piece of music and never get lost. Hillier has done a splendid job with the writing because it is quite technical and will certainly give musicians and other composers insight into Part's structural ideas. The crowning achievement though is that the book can also be read (with only slight difficulty) by those that have no musical training. I can't read music or play any instruments, and I seldom felt lost while reading, despite the technical terminology (one can pick up a lot from context.)

The only problem with the book is that it was published in 1997, so it doesn't have commentary on his newest works like "Kanon Pokjanen." That one flaw, however, is tiny and can be easily overlooked in light of it valuble insight into the world and music of Arvo Part.

My eye's are still bleeding
Lee Harvey Oswald became the most hated man in America after the tragic death of John F. Kennedy. But did Oswald actually do it? If he did was he alone? The Assassinations Dallas and Beyond contemplates these questions as well as the integrity of the commission composed to answer them. The book is a compilation of several official reports, which were both rewritten and analyzed by editor Peter Dale Scott. The books main points focus on the credibility of the Warren Report by evaluating several disregarded pieces of evidence and witnesses that may have proved Oswald's innocence. The Assassinations also describes Oswald's social life, including his communist ties. Although packed with an insurmountable amount of information, this book has a gross redundancy. Still after reading through it all, I feel Oswald was innocent. Only someone with a passion for either JFK or Lee Oswald could stand the long nights of reading a lot of the same information only written differently. However, if you enjoy bleeding from your eyes, or just have trouble sleeping at night, then feel free to read The Assassinations Dallas and Beyond. Take my word for it; don't waste your money on this one and check it out at your local library.

Good Portrait of a Brave and Intelligent Warrior.
This is quick read, but well worth it. On occasion the editor lacks detail, but the content is very useful for anyone seeking a greater grasp of life as an Oglalas Sioux.

A valued mirror to the world of the culture, nation & man.
The story of the rediscovery of The Autobiography Of Red Cloud is told in the introduction. Though much edited, the narrative derives from talks between Red Cloud and Samuel Deon, an old trader friend, recounted to Charles Allen, contemporary postmaster at Pine Ridge. The Autobiography Of Red Cloud spans the life experiences of Red Cloud up to 1865-66, the time when the Oglala chose the war path against whites. Written in the third person and otherwise heavily edited, The Autobiography Of Red Cloud tells much of Oglala life and war practices prior to 1865. These reminiscences detail Red Cloud's experience in war with his Tribe's traditional enemies - Shoshones, Pawnees, Arikaras, Arapaho, and Crow. A vivid picture of Lakota plains life at the height of glory days emerges. The high regard for honorable battle with a worthy adversary, the daily and seasonal patterns and activities of the tribe and many daring exploits establish the foundation for Red Cloud's well deserved reputation as war leader. A picture of a shrewd, astute man with uncanny timing emerges. Also delineated like a war bonnet is the habit of command, not always easily held among the Lakota. Another of Red Cloud's demonstrated skills is the ability to analyze a natural setting and then use it to tactical advantage, as well as to predict the plans and moves of his enemy. The sometimes close relationship between enemy tribes is richly described or inferred. To read The Autobiography Of Red Cloud is to have some experience of that 200 plus year old life of the Plains Indians - hunting buffalo, riding and stealing horses, following the game in season, etc. that so briefly held full flower before white settlement took over. In the aftermath even today, it will be a valuable mirror to the world of the culture, the nation, and the man.
