Awful
Volume 2 of the solutions manual is a waste of your hard earned money. As the previous reviewers stated the manual only provides the odd answers and no explination on where it came from. I do not recommend this to anyone.

Terrible
This thing is terrible. Every other math book has the ODD answers in the back. This just sells as a seperate expensive book. Thats right..all it has are the odd numbers.

Junk

a good book
this proves the answer, but not the solutions. a solution might be helpful.

The Ethics of War and Peace: An Introduction to Legal and Moral Issues
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall College Div (March, 1999)
Author: Paul Christopher
Amazon base price: $29.75
Used price: $89.68
Average review score:

Ethics Lite
It would be best to skip this book and instead purchase Regan's Just War. While well intended, this volume is merely an overview of the subject and a superficial one, at that.

Academic potboiler
This is a simple, and simplistic, attempt to review the nature of war as regarded by philosophers and ethicists. It may be that it was written so that the author might offer his students, in an ancient and ignoble practice, an intellectually slim volume as the text for a course. If you need something to lead you to primary sources, this might do. If you want an original take on this subject, or even the hint of perspicacious commentary, look elsewhere.

A Good Introduction
Christopher's work provides a good introduction to Just War theory. He takes the view that Just War is a balance of what he calls two "Moral Truths." Moral truth one is that it is wrong to intentionally harm innocent people, and moral truth 2 is that we are sometimes justified in using force to protect innocent people from harm. Just War theory is then about reasoning between these two tensions. This text is good read before approaching some of the heavier primary Just War sources.

This book deserves to remain on the shelf at the bookstore.
This book lacks any real substance about the Delphi language and merely glosses over topics. Leave it on the shelf and the money in your pocket.

Rubbish
Tthis is not only the worst technical book I have ever seen, but is worse than I could have ever imagined. It totally fails to meet any of the promises on the cover. It contains a very superficial look at Delphi using a cookbook approach, padded out with long sections of irrelevant material (e.g. descriptions of Windows API functions, a section on writing DLLs in C), some of which are just inaccurate (e.g. the sections on the Registry and OLE). It is quite clear that the author only has a superficial knowledge of Delphi and prefers writing about other subjects he understands or half-understands

Good Info on How to Interact with a Network
While this book is mostly unremarkable, it has an informative chapter on how to interact with a network via the Windows API, dynamically map drives, capture printers, etc.

we could have won the war.
The contents of the book could be summarized rather short: if those nazis had listened to me, we could have won the war. no feelings of remorse, no political responsibilty. general Deichmann appears to be one of those military leaders that made the tragedy of ww2 possible.

Beware of Price
One must have caution when reading an Alfred Price book. Some of them are great, some of them are junkie. This one here belongs to the second category!

Very Average
After the Second World War German military personnel were interrogated by Americans about their experiences on the Eastern Front. The reasons for this was to provide intelligence for a possible war against Russia. These studies must have recently been made public as there are a number of them released in book form.

The author of this book or more correctly the author of a series of documents in 1953 which were made into a book is a former Luftwaffe Lieutenant General.

The book is a rather dry discussion of a number of aspects of using aircraft in support of an army. Most of the book is devoted to talking about reconnaissance planes and is rather dry. The rest of the book looks at the use of aircraft for the direct support of army operations. The author indicates a number of things about the tactics of the Luftwaffe in the war. He indicates that the biggest success of the German Air force in the war was the use of planes to prevent movement of troops to and away from the battlefield. The use of places to attack infantry positions in general was not as successful and he is critical of the use of larger aircraft in this role. The editor of the book in fact makes an interesting point about allied operations in Western Europe after the Normandy invasion. By that time the allies had complete control of the skies and "tank killer" aircraft roamed far and wide. It seems that although during the war claims were made that vast numbers of German tanks were destroyed by aircraft the reality is that very few were. This strengthens the authors view that the main role of aircraft was to prevent the supply of troops and their movement.

Towards the end of the book the author bemoans the fact that Germany created an air force that was designed to support its army. In Britain and the United States a strategic air forces of heavy bombers was created with the role of destroying the productive capability of the enemy. The author argues that to destroy a factory will destroy far more tanks than can be done by an equivalent use of force on the battlefield. This view was something which was echoed by other Luftwaffe generals including Galland. The reality is however that the Germans had created a strategic air force they would not have defeated France in 1940

Das but true
Regretably, I have to agree with the two previous readers. This is not a very good book. It offers little insight into the Getty's collecting philosophy and conveniently passes in silence over the museum's many shortcomings.

Just For Looks
After going to the Museum and reading this book I was struck by how much the fame here is driven by the beautiful building, wonderful location, and the famous benefactors name, and not really the art works that are traditionally the centerpiece of an art museum. Ok there are some very nice pieces here, but just not that many. When purposing a museum book I do so to learn more about the particular art and here the book did an antiquate job, but a lot of page space was taken up with how they got the art. Overall as a coffee table book it is not bad looking, but scratch the surface and it starts to disappoint.

Too much about collecting not enough about art
The author spent far too much time describing how pieces were aquired and not enough time informing the reader about the pieces.

Biochemistry Made Very Easy: Book One Energy Metabolism, Carbohydrates and Lipids
Published in Paperback by Upublish.Com (October, 1999)
Author: Paul M. Byrne
Amazon base price: $25.95
Average review score:

Big promises, big print, big rip off!
The idea of this book is very seductive. This book simplifies the material by cutting through a lot of the detail and focusing on the main ideas of metabolism. It reads like a series of answers to basic chapter questions, perhaps like a freshmen's notes. There is no attempt to elucidate the logic of the material and build bridges to understanding in this way. All structures are completely absent! The transformations become a memorization of the names and orders of compounds. Without structure, understanding metabolism is rendered more difficult if not impossible. It's actually easier to understand the subject if you can see what is happening. There is nothing graphic in this book to illustrate points. Although the book is successful with helping the reader focus on the main points I think it fails to provide real insight. For the chapter summaries I would gladly pay $5 - $10 for this book. I noticed this book was published by the author. I suspect it's because no one else would publish it. Clearly this book is an attempt by the author to make a quick buck without really putting very much into it. At $25 this book is a rip off. Don't buy it, unless you just need a minimal understanding of the material. Clearly there is a niche still waiting to be filled. Perhaps there is someone who will be truly able to make Biochemistry very easy in the future.

Big promises, big print, big rip off.
Biochemistry made very easy is a very seductive idea. This book readsas a series of answers to the essential points covered in a typicalBiochemistry book on metabolism; almost like study notes on thesubject. The author makes no attempt to reveal the logic ofmetabolism and provide understanding that makes learning the subjecteasier. No chemical structures are in sight! Without structures everytransformation is a new chemical name without connection to thechemical name before it! This book does help you focus on the mostimportant parts of the material and doesn't overload you withdetails... The author self published this book and I think it'sbecause no one else would. He really is trying to make money withoutdelivering much. Disappointing... There is still a great niche herefor anyone with the talent to write a great book on Biochemistry madevery easy. Don't waste your money on this book!

Pitiful
Seriosly poor quality. Utter tripe. Awfully written (a bit like their songs) mediocre photography. I hate Bush, but now i want them dead. God awful. Ergh! Sickening.

Waste of my time and money!
Unless you're one of those fans who insist on owning EVERY Bush item that goes on the market, I wouldn't recommend this book. I've looked through it all of twice in the MONTHS I've had it, and both times I found myself utterly disgusted that I had paid for such an item! The book itself is extremely small! The words are small and often hard to read do to poor page layout, most of the pictures are small and blurry, and I found several cases where the author listed wrong information about the members of the band. If you're looking for a good Bush book, I recommend the ones by Peter Black.

Is this book or hell!
I really liked chemistry. I thought it was fascinating. But this book completely made me loathe it. You won't understand a thing in this. It explains one thing and when you think you are getting the hang of it, it skips the whole thing and goes in a completely confusing way to a completely confusing topic. The formulas, which are considered to be really simple are given in the most complicated way, and there are times I really threw the book at the wall out of frustation. Don't ever buy this book. You will be doomed. Buy anyone's else. Nothing could be horrible than this. After reading the other reviews, I think, my review is justified.Thank you.

terrible
This book is awful. The calculations are off on many of the problems. The text is utterly confusing. The authors go way out of their way to confuse the heck out of the reader. There is "no" way one can learn the basic concepts of chemistry by reading this book alone without the help of teachers (and even teachers will get confused on how this book explains things). A waste of money and time this book is. Also, our teacher admitted to the students that this text has numerous mistakes/errors. Obviously not proofread for content. Another thing they do here (to make things more frustrating for you) is to use their own rounding (in many cases you'll be off by as much as 3-6 units which is alot) for their answers. These professors missed the boat on this book. If you want to read a great book on introductory Chemistry, skip this book and get the "Chemistry for Dummies" book. No fooling, that book is a thousand times better/informative than this piece of drivel. I guess it could be worse though if you had to use the "Modern University Chemistry" textbook by Norbert T. Porile. Don't believe that ***** review on that. That one is much worse than this one.

For a class in college chemistry, ask your professor if you can skip buying this book and use the "Chemistry for Dummies" and the Internet resources (all kinds of goodies on the internet). I know that I did and did not need to refer to this text in the last 2 months of the class. Having a great teacher (like I did) also helps too.

Lots of bells, whistles, and smoke screens
I found this text to be very difficult for my students to understand. It approaches the subject of chemistry in a very disjointed way. Many steps are left out in the problem solving examples. The students were totally lost on the concepts without lecture. The CD-rom is a nice addition, but the text should be self-explanatory. Several errors have been found in the text, as well as contradictions of facts. More time should have been spent on the text itself, instead of all the bells and whistles. For example: Chapter 8 was quite confusing, as the authors write electron configurations in numerical order instead of fill order. This made it very difficult for students to follow. The authors approach many subjects in a unique way that completely throws the students off course. I highly recommend Silberberg or Brown. I used Silberberg's book in lecture, and the students comprehended the material well. I spent a lot of extra time in class trying to undo the confusion caused by this text. The only thing I liked about the book was the test writing software that came with it, but that does not make up for the difficulty the students have with the text.

This book is to general. Not Netscape Communicator specific
This book had very little about Netscape Communicator. The three chapters that are devoted to Netscape Communicator tell you what it can do. It does not show you with examples. The majority of the book is about surfing the net, a little of HTML code, and examples of web sites. You can learn more accidentally by experimentation and on line help. My recommendation is save your money do not purchase this book.

Not enough material pertaining to Netscape Communicator.
I borrowed this book from the library hoping to gain some insight into Netscape Communicator. Little did I know I had inadvertently borrowed Internet for Dummies. A scant 3 chapters are devoted to Communicator and the rest of the book is internet reference material for various sites and a brief history of the internet.

Big disappointment
Of the 325 pages of text, this book had only 54 pages relating specifically to Netscape's browser. I know readers need to be aware of the generalities of Internet surfing, but given the title of this book, I thought there would be more on the specifics of using this particular browser. I generally like the "for Dummies" series, but this was a disappointment.

This isn't a book. It's a $50 pamphlet.
"Understanding CORBA" was written by two software engineers at the now-defunct Digital Equipment Corp. This dinky book reads very much like a DEC manual from the "good old days": dry and uninformative. Reading the book may not give anyone much insight into CORBA, but it will give you an idea of why DEC is no longer around.

It's not a book, it's a pamphlet.
This skinny text barely skims CORBA's surface. It was written by a couple of software engineers at DEC, and it is just as dry and uninformative as any DEC manual. Reading this book, you may not learn much about CORBA, but you'll gain some insight as to why DEC is no longer around.

Good introduction for the uninitiated
This was a good introductory book for CORBA, targeting readers with only elementary knowledge of operating systems and programming. Advanced readers who want to get an introduction to CORBA will find this book readable but unsatisfactory.
