Quick and Easy Paper Planes that Really Fly
Published in Paperback by Flying Frog Publishing (08 June, 1997)
Author: Paul Jackson
Amazon base price: $3.99
Used price: $1.99
Average review score:

Great basic book with good variety
Clear easy to follow instructions with good variety of planes that make a great airshow.

Great instructions, fun planes!
My son, who was six when we got this book, has folded every plane in it several times. The instructions are clear and don't really require reading, and he could build all the planes with almost no help from me. The stickers included in the middle are fun and really jazz up the planes. What a fun book! My son is such a paper airplane fanatic now, and I know we owe a lot of his interest to this book.

An important guide to bringing about social change
"Quickening of America" is a terrific book which explains the whats and the how-tos of bringing about social change through Living Democracy.

Living Democracy is probably the best way to bring about changes in communities all over the world. "Quickening" gives examples of how successful agencies brought about reforms and the methods they used, which could be replicated by any reform-minded individual or group.

"Quickening" is a must-read for any person or group who wants to bring about change.

desire to see change in your community, read this
This is an urgent, important message for anyone who seeks change in the way their community works or the atmosphere, which exists in their hometown. A Humorous Kick in the Pants
While I know that this book was meant to be funny (and it is), it's really a reminder that there's such a thing as sticking with a bad situation too long. My favorite quote from the author is "The more things you quit, the more things you'll have the opportunity to succeed at." Here's to saying enough's enough. Here's to quitting the old and starting something new. If you're in a rut, buy this book to remind of why quitting isn't so bad.

Quitting, an underrated art
I have always been ashamed of quitting but, as an avowed and now self-celebrated quitter this book was perfect to validate and analyze my methods. Ms. Harris has showed me that quitting is an art with wit and humor

Finding the perfect compromise between theory and practice.
A very useful book, perfect for race engineers, and a good launching platform for an engineer just starting to delve into the field of racecar engineering. Mr Van Valkenburg has a very unique view of racecar engineering that makes his writings a pleasure to read.

Extremely informative, a must read for any race car crew.
Mr. Van Valkenburgh has succeeded in getting across a great deal of technical information, and presenting it in such a way that the non-technical reader can understand and apply it. From tires and shocks, to suspension geometry and slip angles, all of the nuts and bolts info. is covered. No muss, no fuss, no useless information that won't help you win races, just factual, useful information. I take it with me every time we go to the track, and I use it every time.

Rachel Carson: The Writer at Work
Published in Hardcover by Peter Smith Pub (June, 1999)
Author: Paul Brooks
Amazon base price: $28.50
Average review score:

Rachel's Editor and Friend
Paul Brooks knew Rachel Carson well and encouraged her writing of her sea books. Upon Rachel's death, it was Paul and his wife who adopted Roger, the son of Rachel's niece (who Rachel adopted). Paul Brooks biography is much shorter than Linda Lear's about Carson's life and work. I feel he shows the writing genius of Rachel the poet/scientist. He mentions the personal circumstances of Carson's family responsibilities, but Brooks gift to the reader is an understanding of the unique publications Rachel produced in her very brief life. I do not know of any other writer who has had every work on the NYTimes bestseller list, sometimes two at a time!! Non-fiction all, even her posthumous The Sense of Wonder. Science written for the layperson is a gift and Paul Brooks nurtured it in Rachel Carson.

Excellent!
From Planeta Journal - This compelling biography documents the life and work of Rachel Carson. From a government official to a star of the 1960s environmental movement, Rachel Carson is a figure often cited but poorly known. This book sets out to change that perception and includes excerpts from her books as well. A favorite!

Invaluable
Vintage, the publisher, should feel deep, dark, spooky shame for letting this remarkable book go out of print. The reviewer below is misguided in his or her belief that there are more than a few clunkers among the translations: hogwash. Wilbur's rendition of "Le Pont Mirabeau" is an exceptionally musical version of an exceptionally musical poem, and approximates beautifully the Whistleresque mood. To critique Pound's translation is like saying "Damn the Moon, it's full of holes." Sure, but its the Moon. On the whole, this book gets it right, offering an interesting selection of poets and translators (just as there is more than one kind of poet, so too are there different, and equally valid, forms of translation). Seek it out till Bertlesman come to their multinational senses.

GREAT TO HAVE IT, BUT OO-LA-LA! SOME POOR TRANSLATIONS!
Paul Auster chose his poems well, and the bilingual presentation, format, and ordering of the poets are all clear and easy to follow. It's wonderful to have this access to modern French poetry in English. There are two problems, however: First, there are hardly any women poets (I think 1 out of 50 - the unrelenting masculine viewpoint gets tedious, like being trapped in a cigar-smoke-filled men's room). And second, some of the translations are graceless and inaccurate. Mr. Auster's secondary goal was to choose among already-existing translations by American and British poets. Many of these ruin the mood, parallelisms and imagery of the poems. For instance, Apollinaire's "Mirabeau Bridge" is tortured into English rhyme, destroying all subtlety. Milosz's "November Symphony" has had a meaningless name change to "Strophes" by Ezra Pound, who, if he was going to re-name it, should have called it "Truncations", since he seems to have gotten tired and omitted the last third of the poem. All in all, though, I'm very pleased to have it.

not what i expected... in a good way!
wow, after i ordered this book, i started to have second thoughts, but i decided to risk it; if i didn't enjoy it, i knew some of the new additions to my history class could use it. but when i recieved it, i was impressed--paul choi and his team must have worked pretty hard to look for some of these quotations (the only problem with this book is its use of the word "quote" instead of "quotation"). but overall, i think this book is great and i'm planning to order more from the series.

mao in color
If you love Mao, you'll love this book! Choi has seemed to capture the beauty and brilliance that is the Chairman. His personality and charisma is brought to life in living color in this charming little edition. Two thumbs up!!

A wonderful resource
Dr. Fine is a superb clinician and a wise, humane practitioner and teacher. His ability to see and explain with clarity even the most complex of subjects shines through in this book. While it is a more strictly clinical book than his first ("The Wards") and therefore not as filled with his trademark compassion and understanding, "Rapid Access Guide to Internal Medicine" accomplishes its goal admirably. It is conscientiously and thoughtfully put together, a wonderful aid for any busy physician seeking that most elusive of resources: one that offers solid, dependable and insightful information in a quickly navigated format. "Rapid Access Guide to Internal Medicine" helps cement Dr. Fine's standing as a physician--and a communicator--of rare gifts. Highly recommended.

An excellent reference
This is one of the finest books relating to internal medicine I have read. It is brief, to the point and highlights the most important information one would need. I had trouble putting it down. I plan to order one for all my colleagues and family members.

Edit it again
A year ago I bought Vol 2 "Birds and mammals", Fantastic. One of my treasures.
I have been looking for Vol 1 and no body has it or want to sell it. I am sure that a new edition will be a succesfull and a gift for all we love fly fishing and tying .

More than an Encyclopedia Of Materials
Paul pulls together a concise informative description of the animal providing the material along with its range of domain. He bridges this over into the use of the material in the realm of fly tying. This book is one of a two part set. Be sure to buy both. In the second book of the set he includes sections on man made materials and a couple of other special topics. His section on genetic hackle and the history of its development is insightful and very well done. The supporting photography of flies and patterns tied by many contemporary tiers makes this a truly wonderful book to sit and page through for an hour or sit and read for several. An excellent compilation.
