Great understanding and fullfillment of the readers needs
I searched a dozen books looking for my future business. I found this book gave me more than I expected from anyone. Help with evaluating myself, the many businesses, and how well they fit my skills and preferences was provided. The only need I found missing, I learned, was illegal for franchisers to say -what range of income is produced with these businesses. That information has to come from somewhere else.

Getting Off to The Right Start Means Avoiding Scams
I found this book incredibly helpful in getting me off on the right foot in my home-based business. The book clearly outlines the three major "pre-packaged" types businesses available (franchises, business opportunities and multi-level marketing). Then comes the good part. The authors provide a series of tests and checklists that can be applied to any business that you might consider buying. Tests to determine a business' chances for success, the honesty of the seller, the forthrightness of opportunity - and even a test you take yourself to find out if the business is a good match for your personality and skill level - follow each section. These tests, and the information they reveal, take much of the guesswork out making a decision as important as what kind of (and which kind of) business to buy. I highly recommend it. The Edwards', with Walter Zooi, have done it again!

Helpful, Hands-On Guide to Evaluating Environmental Issues
I recently purchased my first home and had so many headaches to deal with just on the basics of the transaction, I wasn't initially sure how to address possible environmental issues or where I would find the time to figure them all out. The Home Environmental Sourcebook, with its practical, well-organized and easy to understand information, solved my dilemma. It allowed me to investigate environmental issues of particular concern (e.g., lead paint, asbestos) quickly by providing concise information by topic area and letting me know where else I could find more detailed information. The book was also helpful in that a quick scan of topics covered in the book helped identify issues which I hadn't been considering, but which were ultimately important not only in my decision-making process, but in the very negotiation of the purchase contract. Highly recommended.

Renovator Recommends "Home Environmental Sourcebook"
I recommend this book to everyone in the renovation field. The content on older homes is very important in limiting future liability and callbacks. The chapters on lead paint and asbestos alone could save the contractor thousands of times the cost of the book

My favorite childhood series
Katie John continues in her own way to plot out her own way. She was my hero when I was a child and I have enjoyed sharing her with my daughter. Buy the book! Buy the whole series. It is so much fun.

Katie is a girl like Beverly Cleary's Ellen Tebbits
I read this book when I was 9 in 4th grade. In summer 1985 I was with my family on vacation on the washinton coast staying in a cabin in Grays Harbor area, and Mom would go garage sale-ing during the day. She bought this book for 10c and I knew I was going to like it. The inside title page showed Katie on her bike and she reminded me of Beverly Cleary's Ellen Tebbits. I fell in love with Katie that summer day. The book is so good and Katie is so much like me. EVERYONE, READ KATIE JOHN! Mary should continue this series. It is good and I'm sure a lot of people agree!

Honorable Cat
This book is packed with beautiful kitty photographs and poetry. It is configured with a photo on one page and a poem (based on the photo)on the opposite page. The beginning of the book takes a unique look at the cat from a respectful and appreciative perspective. The authors writing style tends to be "old english" (compared to what I'm used to) But it quickly grows on you. I've read and re-read the book many times...In fact, I find the words drifting into my mind when riding the bus or trolley..It's truly a special book for the cat lover. A+++

My Absolute Favorite Cat Book
Honorable Cat is my "most favorite" cat book. The poetry is unique, the photographs are terrific... this book is so SPECIAL it's hard to sum up in a few words. I try to keep one on hand at all times to use as a special gift. It makes a wonderful coffee table book. My favorite poems include "The Dandelion" and an absolutely priceless ballad about "Tough Tom, the King of the Car Park." I tell you the truth, you can't buy this book fast enough.

Great for the backpacker!
I'm in Europe now and I've been living off of this book and Geneva Nights. Hostels European Cities fits a much needed mold for young travels looking for something beyond the mundane museum junk.

fantastic!
This book helped me in my travels around Europe this year so much that I can hardly express my thanks. They gave great inside information, and helped me to save some much needed money, while still allowing me to have one of the best times of my life. A wonderful book, I'd recomend it for anyone who will be traveling in Europe and doing the hostelling thing. :)

Spain turn of the XIX century
A young and inexperienced priest arrives to an old and aristocratic house which is in clear falling in pieces. He strongly feels that the state of the house is the consequence of the moral decay of its owner who is a good for nothing, solely interested in hunting activities and who had a bastard son with the maid of the house.

The priest believes that the sacrament of matrimony, will render the fruits upon Señor de Ulloa soul and sets hmself the goal of finding him a bride suitable for such high designations. The Marquis due to quite distorted reasoning ends up choosing a cousin who is not very attractive and a little weak istead of the one he was really attracted to.

The aims of the priest clash head to head wih the long term plans of Primitivo a sort of family housekeeper with a self appointed position who have been stealing the proceeds of the hacienda's and is waiting for the proper moment to take full control of the Marquis de Ulloa's land properties. At that moment will become due when Spain is shaken by liberal movements and the novelty of the democratic process.

The role of women on this novel shall not go unnoticed, since both the maid and the aristocratic lady of the house are also a reflection of the era which is gaining momentum Spain and it is reflected on the health of both ladies and in which the Spaniars were simultaneously spectators and protagonists as well as in the sexual preferences of the Marquis de Ulloa.

A wonderful classic of 19th century Spanish prose.
Emilia Pardo Bazán stands as perhaps the Spanish speaking world's greatest woman novelist. Along with Galdos and Clarín she was one of the three most important writers of late 19th century Spain. An intellectual of astounding breadth, she was the leading exponent of the Naturalist literary school in her country, -- as attested by her numerous theoretical wrtitings on the subject -- and was an outspoken feminist. She also wrote the first review of Darwin's _Origin of the Species_ to appear in print in Spain.

_The House of Ulloa_ is the work of fiction for which she is best known, and is also the work which perhaps best illustrates Pardo Bazán's own peculiar and unorthodox conception of Naturalism. A primitive and violent rural countryside provides the setting for the novel. When Julian, a cultured and somewhat effeminate priest arrives at the house of the Marquis of Ulloa, he discovers a brutish place which is physically falling prey to creeping nature. Weeds and plants have encroached on the property and whole sections of the once magnificent manor have fallen into disrepair. Julian attempts to "save" the Marquis by marrying him to a city dwelling cousin. The plan, however, does not sit well with Primitivo, the Marquis' ruthless and violent butler. Primitivo excercises a defacto control over the Marquis' property and finances, and is alarmed by the intrusion of the new inhabitants. His opposition is heightened by the fact that the Marquis has borne an illegitimate child of Primitivo's daughter and the new arrivals threaten his grandson's eventiual claims to inheritance. Thus the stage is set for a powerful and cruel denouement.

How Many Teeth?
This book is an excellent educational tool. I am a public health dental hygienist and I use this book in grades K-2. The bright pictures and clever rhymes make it very entertaining for children. It is a great way to teach kids about their mouths and oral health!

Humours, rhymming, informative
When my 5 year old lost his first tooth, he was asking all sorts of questions: WHY did I lose a tooth, WHEN will I lose more....

Thi sbook answers those questions. It has a chart which looks inside the gums to show a new tooth pushing out the old. The book alternates between a story line and a poem. At the end it gets funny with a boy not being able to sing the rhyme like the others because he lost 2 teeth and he "thounds funny".

I let my son's reactions rate books: this is a 5.

How to Help a Friend

An Outstanding Resource for the "layman" Counselor
Paul Welter presents the idea of the everyday person acting as counselor to friends. This book was used as a text in a graduate level counseling class I took. It offers information relevant to practicing counselors or to the common person that wants to be a good friend. Having met Dr. Welter, I can attest to the fact that he is a genuine, Christian counselor that backs and believes in his ideas. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to be a better friend.

Most sensible and useful book on the subject I've read.
This book has a wealth of practical information about communicating with and helping anyone with a problem. It is easy to read and gives clear guidelines to help determine the severity of friends' problems. It will give you good advice about giving advice and teaches many nifty skills and techniques to use when you want to help someone think through a problem. Perfect for peer counselors, lay ministers, teachers, friends, bartenders or other "gatekeepers" who care about people. Bible based. Common sense. It is so sad this book is no longer in print.
