Systems Analysis for Civil Engineers: Technological and Economic Factors in Design

Best Reference for Practicing Engineers
This is the best reference for Systems Analysis, Economics and Linear Programming for engineers (and others) working on practical ("real") problems amongst the twenty or so I have read in the last twenty years. It also includes some non-linear analysis, which few engineers in practice will need, but which is occasionally useful. The descriptions are simple, clear and straight-forward and the examples are excellent. It does not include Karmarkar's revision to the Simplex method, but that is a minor inconvenience. Anyone involved in resource allocation should be familiar with the materials in this text. This is really a guide to the maximum use of limited resources.

Explores the process of making all aspects of life holy
A Table In The Desert: Making Space Holy explores Christian spirituality as "sacralization", that is, the process of making all aspects of life holy. W. Paul Jones draws upon his many decades of experience as a priest, hermit-monk, social activist, poet and theologian to draw from both Catholic and Protestant traditions to explore the Church as the "World of Sacrament" and offers it as a genuine alternative to the secular world. Also very highly recommended to students of Christian spirituality is W. Paul Jones' companion volume from Paraclete Press, A Season In The Desert: Making Time Holy.

Tactical and Strategic Missile Guidance (Progress in Astronautics and Aeronautics)
Published in Hardcover by Amer Inst of Aeronautics & ()
Author: Paul Zarchan
Amazon base price: $109.95
Average review score:

Outstanding text for learning about missile guidance

Professor Zarchan's text is an outstanding
treatment of missile guidance and control.
The derivation of proportional navigation and
other missile control laws provides insight
and the additions for ballistic missiles are
particularly relevant for today's missile
specialists. The computer programs provide a
quick reference, and enhance the derivations.
A must have for developers, testers, or
anyone with an interest in missile guidance
and control.

Tagalog Reference Grammar

This is THE most comprehensive Tagalog grammar
This is THE most comprehensive Tagalog grammar available so far. Any serious student, whether beginning or advanced, of Tagalog will highly benefit from this masterpiece. The things I like about this book are: an in-depth explanation of Tagalog pronunciation (with IPA) which discusses the phonemes and its allophones (some surprised me!), great organization of its chapters, explicitly explained grammatical features, comments on regional usage, comparisons, charts, and much more. It's indexed too, so it's not so hard to find what aspect of Tagalog grammar you want to look up. One slight drawback is that it uses some linguistic "jargon" -- this shouldn't be a big obstacle, it's pretty understandable without it. In short, this makes for a great investment. Sa palagay ko, ito nga ang "bibliya" ng wikang Tagalog. :)

Stories well-calculated to keep you in...Suspense!
This set is good because it includes what has been considered the best show of the series: "Sorry, Wrong Number". The story was so popular that Agnes Moorehead actually had to come back and redo it 4 times over the years Suspense was on the air (and even recorded it into album form because of it's popularity). In today's stories, it might not grab you like it did the folks back then, but it's still good and it shows what an amazing actress Ms. Moorehead was (rather than Sabrina's gaudy mother on "Bewitched"). The Bogart story is good too, but I'm a big Bogie fan, so that goes without saying. More good ones from the series.

Very Informative
it not only has some of the prison escapes like from Alcatraz, Colditz, the escape of Winston Churchill, it also has turban, the black woman who freed a huge number of slaves in america, the berlin wall, houndini, the guy who can escape from any kind of locks, straitjacket. and more of course. it tells of how they escaped, their methods used, a lot of colourful pictures of tools the captured used, and also maps showing the location of the prisons and where prisoners and slaves were held.

Great children's book on hauntings!
Colorful children's book with lots of illustrations. Story of "The Most haunted House in England" begins on the cover and includes many photos, drawings, and a schematic of Borley Rectory. One of the very best - and most accurate - tellings of the Borley Legend available. Other stories of classic hauntings are just as well done. Excellent!

Not just any ol' camp
Tales of Wo-Chi-Ca showed me, intimately from the inside, an amazingly exciting and influential radical-left children's camp of the 1930's and '40's. The book gave me a crystal-clear image of the beautiful and loving side of the old radical left that the ugliness of McCarthyism undermined.

Just as a good read, the book kept moving me and causing me to tell my wife about what I had just read.

"Talk at Work" & "Talk AS work"
This volume collects an excellent set of papers, each concerned with explicating the ways that people, through talk-in-interaction, do institutional work, (and thereby also 'do' or 'achieve' institutions as stable settings). The papers in this volume were written by leaders in the field of conversation analysis, including: Max Atkinson, Jorg Bergman, Graham Button, Steve Clayman, Paul Drew, John Heritage, Gail Jefferson, Douglas Maynard, Emanuel Schegloff, & Don Zimmerman. This book should be read by every serious social scientist.

The reason I play golf is hidden within these pages.
Golf is best understood by the memories we have playing the game. I found the questions helped me remember the fond times playing golf. Enjoy the answers you will get when you present this book to your friends. After another season of golf passes by, the questions in this book helped me and my friends to put the season in perspective.
