Hysterical History
This book is part of a fabulous series that puts ancient history in an entirely different perspective -- it is written like a modern newspaper, only presented as though it is written during the time of ancient Greece (or Rome, Egypt, etc.)

Though the humor is lively and intelligent (great inside jokes for serious history students), the humor is never at the expense of historical accuracy -- these books are actually good background material for the study of ancient cultures. If you are fond of Ancient Greece, you MUST read this book.

Wonderfully Funny
I bought mine and a school book fair,(The price here is much better) It tells of all sorts of things that happened in Greece years back, I also recomend the rest in the series, including The Roman Record, and The Egyptian Echo.

Fast, funny, informative source on Ancient Greece.
This is going to be a "must have" book for any kid, teacher, or parent who is interested in Ancient Greece. Whether you have a little background or have studied the subject extensively, you will find something to interest you--or at least to tickle your funny bone. (The inside jokes are hysterical.) Though too short to be a definitive source book, this will be a great supplement for anyone looking to study Greek history.

glorious book!
This book is a must for anyone interested in including greens into their diet.

Each chapter is catagorized by specific green, describing in detail proper storage, cleaning and preparation instructions.

There are simple everday recipes as well as great dishes you would serve guests. It has a broad array of recipes for side dishes, soups, main courses and salads.

I got this book out of the library to sample it and just fell in love. I thought I'd make copies of the few recipes of interest. When I was done there were over 30 recipes of I wanted to make. I put it on my holiday list but have decided to buy it for myself now. I am buying about 5 more to give as gifts to my friends.

Enjoy!

A great introduction to the world of green vegetables
Leafy green vegetables are so healthy for you, but trying to figure out how to cook them was a huge challenge for me! I even found that main stream vegetarian cookbooks barely mentioned them! This book looks at each leafy green vegetable alphabetically and describes it, tells you what to look for when buying it, and gives between 5 an 10 recipes for cooking it. It covers everything from mustard, to kale, to chard, to chinese greens. I love this book! The recipes are easy and fast to prepare. I highly recommend this cookbook.

This book is a joy.
Since I bought this book, it has become a bible in my home for healthy innovative ideas and recipes that are simple in execution and absolutely wonderful. There's not a recipe that has disappointed my family. In addition to the terrifc recipes, there are loads of helpful tips and information on the importance of greens in our diet. I highly recommend this book to the serious cook and the amatuer as a fresh approach to a healthier and delicious life style.

A Hawaiian Life: A Most Captivating Biography
I have always been an avid reader and credit that as the source of my strength in communicating ideas and concepts when I teach. "A Hawaiian Life" proved to be a most enjoyable reading experience for me - and not because of the inclusion of pidgin english which I am so familiar with - but more so because of the stories told. George Kahumoku Jr. has lived, as is living, an incredibly full life and Paul Konwiser has been able to capture, through first person narrative, some of the exceptional and wonderful experiences of George. The stories are a window into a lifestyle and are sprinkled with insights into the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic diversity that is unique to Hawaii. That alone, though, is not the allure or appeal of this biography. George has had EXTRAORDINARY experiences few, if any, of us will have. Each chapter is subtitled and "Almost Dead at Six Weeks Old" and "A Shark Attacks" may give you an idea of what I mean. Often humurous, at times touching and wonderfully illustrated by George, this book did what I want books to do - entertain and captivate me. Buy it today and ENJOY! I'll be waiting for more stories from Paul and George!!

More story George, please!
The only bad thing about "A Hawaiian Life" is that it's over so quick. I could have read another 1000 pages of Mr. Hakumoku's story. For any Hawaiian at heart who longs for sitting down with a true Hawaiian and talking story, this is as good as it gets. A picture window into a lifestyle so far from what some of us are living today. Sit back with inu, kick off da kine slippas and escape brah. Feel Hawaiian for a while. Mahalo nui loa George!!

A Book For Anyone Who Loves Hawai'i
"A Hawaiian Life" is a collection of stories from the daily experiences of a contemporary Hawaiian man, George Kahumoku Jr., a master slack key guitar player who has entertained all over the world. The stories are funny and unpretentious, such as an ahi (tuna) fishing disaster; teaching his son to be an entertainer; and adjusting (or not) to life in an elegant resort hotel. The book gives a generous view of a Hawai'i most people never get to see. Illustrated by the author, these allegorical tales are layered with meanings, often spiritual, and they resonate for a long time after being read.

You won't put it down
This book is packed full of information in a very readable form.Don't take it to bed. You won't get any sleep. Great information on the immune system and how Echinacea works WITH the body for healing. No! I won't lend this book out to anyone. It's too valuable.

Excellent guide to the immune system & its supporting herbs.
My favorite new herbal is Paul Bergner's excellent book, _The Healing Power of Echinacea and Goldenseal and Other Immune System Herbs_ (Prima Publishing, 1997). I hadn't ordered it previously thinking it was a short review of the two herbs. Big mistake! It covers the immune system and the whole category of immune modulating herbs.

This book is good for anyone who would like more background in the workings of the immune system (including health care professionals who know the physiology but are not used to thinking of immune function as a system) At least a quarter of the book is dedicated to the functioning of the immune system, covering technical material in prose ranging from humorous to stunningly beautiful. He has a gift for chosing just the right metaphor to explain difficult concepts.

In the section titled "Protective Powers: the Healing Power of Snot" he describes the IgA-saturated mucous secretions as a "sophisticated, genetically enginee! ! red antibiotic paste that is tailored to whatever infection is current." The antibodies carried in the mucus are produced in immediate response to current infections in the body and will attack them while protecting your tissues. In other words, don't try to stop your running nose!

One reason for tasting herbs- indeed holding them in your mouth for a while before swallowing- is that lymph nodes are located just behind the tongue. Echinacea for instance works best to stimulate lymphatic activity, but first it must get to the lymphatic system. Lymph, unlike blood, does not have a pump to circulate herbal factors. So if it lands in your stomach in a capsule, the herb may not get to the lymphatic system where it is needed- or at least may arrive ineffectively. (This is aside from taste preparing your liver to utilize herbs.)

The book also covers the titular herbs in detail, with emphasis on proper use, situations where they are inappropriately applied (90% of the tim! ! e for goldenseal) and when alternatives to the endangered g! oldenseal can be used. For example, he shows that goldenseal should NOT be taken when you are coming down with a flu or cold, although echinacea might be quite effective. Oregon grape OTOH is quite useful at that time, as a berberine-containing substitute for... echinacea. Goldenseal probably has no effective substitute when a long term cold or respiratory infection starts to turn bacterial, with yellow or green mucus because the hydrastine works directly upon the mucosal secretions. And goldenseal works NO better in large doses than small doses- as single capsule or half-dropper of tincture is all you will need for a dose.

The book covers a number of alternatives to echinacea and goldenseal, shows unusual uses for them and gives recipes. It is well worth adding to your herbal bookshelf.

An excellent buy
Yes, we've been waiting for this book. It's a good in-depth study of Echinacea and Goldenseal, giving us the true usefulness of these plants, and the folly of a lot of their popular use. This is a book for everybody interested in herbs, from casual herb users to practitioners.

Grace under Persecution
We lightly speak of our own 'cross' or of 'persecution', but those of us in America have no idea what other believers are going through.

Brother Yun has experienced unbelievable persecution, including torture and imprisonment. He has also experienced unbelievable grace and miracles. And in a paradox that continues to confound, he describes how the true church actually flourishes amidst persecution.

Be warned -- it is hard to read. Not in the sense of literary difficulty (the language is easy), but it will cause you to search your own soul. You cannot read this without questioning your own commitment level. Yet at the same time, one is tempted to read quickly, at breakneck pace, just to follow the adventure, and see how it all turns out. It's an adventure story -- truly a 'page-turner'.

Be inspired by one who made the choice to follow Christ even if it cost everything.

This will challenge your socks off
After reading this book, I'm convinced that most professing Christians in America have no clue what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. This book is about Yun who was nicknamed "The Heavenly Man". Yun was a church leader, planter and missionary in China. He faced much persecution because he refused to compromise. He could have avoided the persecution, separation from his family and imprisonment by just being quiet about his faith. But he choose to obey, and he suffered greatly. I was challenged and convicted of my fear of man. This book has been one of the most life changing books I have ever read. Buy It!

Heart Stirred and Heart Changed
This is book about what God did in and through the life of a man named Brother Yun. The story, no matter whether you are a Christian or not, is absolutely captivating. Your heart will be lifted in joy and crushed in agony as you read this man's life. He spent years in prison being tortured and many more on the run trying to escape from a governemnt that would not allow religious freedom. Always, though, God works profoundly through him.

Wiggle those toes....
The author loves to go barefoot and as the mother of four grown children, she has tied more shoes than she can count. She is the author of several picture books including The Seasons Sewn: A Year in patchwork, which won the Carl Sandburg Award for Children's Literature. Nadine illustrates with such flair and will make you smile...even though she would rather have all the shoes in this book and not go barefoot.

A little girl in pink pajamas awakens with the words: "Good morning, toes, Good morning, feet, tangled up between my sheets." She then puts on bunny slippers and bounces around to the closet door. The puppy dog in the story actually brings her the slippers.

The next page will make every little girl wish she had a closet filled with all these pretty shoes. Red high heels with bows, alligator sock shoes, fluffy orange slippers, boots and yellow sandals decorated with fruit. After clomping down the stairs in her polka dot red
high heels, she changes into something a bit more practical. Then the real fun starts.

She leaps and skips and goes down a slide, swings and points her toes up high, jumps across a creek and then heads home for lunch. While her baby brother naps, she walks quietly in her red boots and heads outside to shuffle along in leaves.

After taking off her shoes, she squishes her toes into muddy ooze and then dances in a puddle and cleans her feet off. She then takes a big bubble bath, dries her feet and snuggles between her sheets.

Completely Adorable and perfect for bedtime reading.

2 year old's favorite book....Mom likes it too!
Really a delightful story that journals a day in life of a girl who from her feets' perspective. The illustrations are bright and interesting. My two year old just loves the book.

Delightful rhythmic text and vibrant illustrations
Really enjoy this book, especially for reading aloud to a group of children. I particularly like the rhyming and very "active" vocabulary. Colorful and charming pictures complement the text very well.

New Zealand HIAI Monthly email Newsletter <nzhemp@es.co.nz>
This is a monumental effort, 220 page plus book well laid out and researched with heaps of references and an easy to follow index of pests and diseases plus biological solutions as the title indicates. Members may recall that John McPartland in fact all the authors were very helpful to NZHIAI some time back regarding MAF's (Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries) request for information regarding industrial hemp pests and diseases. By NZ standards this book is quite pricey (NZD 150-00 plus landed) That said I would suggest if you are re serious regarding growing industrial hemp this book will become as it is rapidly for me "Your bible." There is so much information my head is spinning. It is attractively bound and could well become a collectors item. No problems with NZ customs. In a word it is BRILLIANT. A credit to the authors. It can be obtained from the website below. Only took a week to get here.

Review from CC Archives <cannabis@overload1.baremetal.com>
Hemp diseases and pests An amazing new tome on cannabis cultivation. from CC On-line, by Pete Brady

Here's the perfect recipe for a book about cannabis: use three authors who have spent decades studying cannabis horticulture, combine them with an international publishing company, and give them enough resources to create an oversized book with professional citations, illustrations, and binding.

This perfect recipe has produced a gorgeous new book, HEMP DISEASES AND PESTS - MANAGEMENT AND BIOLOGICAL CONTROL. The authors - Dr. John McPartland, Robert Connell Clarke, and David Watson - are premier marijuana researchers whose credibility and breadth of knowledge are legendary.

McPartland is a medical doctor, botanist and cannabinoid researcher. Clarke is the author of two epic texts, MARIJUANA BOTANY and HASHISH!. Watson runs HortaPharm, the Dutch cannabis breeding consortium supplying specialty cannabis to UK med-pot research projects conducted by GW Pharmaecuticals.

HEMP DISEASES AND PESTS is a fascinating, practical book, and an upcoming issue of CANNABIS CULTURE will give a more complete summary of its features. For the purposes of this brief online review, however, I assure you that this book will significantly increase yield, efficiency and quality for any marijuana grower who follows its advice.

The book includes photos that help growers diagnose dozens of plant dysfunctions, including enemy insects, mites, mammals, and fungi, environmentally-caused problems, overwatering, and nutrient deficiencies. It tells growers how to protect their crops using biocontrols instead of toxic chemicals. It describes ideal soil components, harvesting guidelines, and curing procedures.

Although HEMP DISEASES AND PESTS is not intended as a "grow book" that focuses on lighting, security, and clandestine techniques, its scope, accuracy and detail make it an incomparable textbook that every marijuana grower should have. It is interesting and entertaining, immaculately presented and organized, and features the most innovative and reliable techniques for keeping your plants healthy and happy.

HEMP DISEASES AND PESTS is a large, 251 page, professional book with a professional price. It's well worth it. When I grew my own marijuana, I was often puzzled by plant problems. If I'd had this book, I could have easily eliminated those problems. HEMP DISEASES AND PESTS will likely increase the yield of your garden by at least 50%- if that's not worth, I don't know what is!

Having only been able to get an overview of this imposing tome, I came away thorougly impressed. for by far the most comprehensive book on the subject, this book should become indispensable. in a field dominated by the likes of ed rosenthal and jorge cervantes, it's nice to see a work that's more academic than either e.r. or j.c. are inclined to churn out (not that they don't provide a great service to the public as well!) if you've got the time, and are serious about cultivation, this work will resolve a lot of nagging questions and issues you might have in a professional, well-organized fashion.

You would think love is possible.
Who would ever think that a woman used to the commodities of modern life would accept the love of a stranger in Africa? Who would ever think that a tribe African would accept a woman not capable of cooking? Paul Meyer makes you believe this is possible in this book! This book takes you to places in Africa few people attempt to understand. I thought I would read a romantic novel, and I found a poignant criticism of the material world and the commodities we enjoy, through the search for happiness and peace of these two characters. At the end you want to know more about their future.

I highly recommend this book!
This poignant story builds and builds. It will delight and surprise you! I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Poignant love story set in the wilds of Kenya
Paul Meyer has written a cross-cultural love story that provides a fascinating look at both the customs of Kenya and the complexities of human relationships. The chapters are written alternately from the viewpoint of a kidnapped American woman and a resourceful young Kenyan man, each trying to find a comfortable niche in the world. Most enjoyable!

Magnificent rendering of timeless classics
Having grown up in an Irish family I heard these stories as a child from my great grandmother. Seumas MacManus passes on the valor and humour of the Gaelic race in a beautiful flowing style. This is a story book to read to your child at night to excite the wonder and magic in the world for him/her. I highly recommend this book to you...

A Great book By a great Shanchie
Irelands stories, have been told for generaitions . And Now that they are written, Thay can never be Lost. .. Seamus macManus, In my oppinion had a great reason to wright this down. Because story Tellers like himself are a Dieing Breed, And People need to keep these intact.

Very entertaining book of Irish stories
I recently read one of the stories from this book to a group of 4th graders for St. Patrick's Day. It was very entertaining and amusing and the class appreciated its humor. From the stories I read in it it has a very Irish type of humor which I enjoy. Excellent book. Pity it is hard to find.

Mistake on Website
Just to reiterate the point, the review above is for a book on Hippocrates by Jaques Jouanna. It only references the Loeb book in its critique, and was probably attahced to this Loeb page by accident. The Loeb books on Hippocrates come in several volumes.

Writer of previous review need to re-read the review, above.
The previous review writer seems to have misunderstood the review presented above. The review, in fact, DOES allude to Jouanna's text. The Loeb version is merely discussed in Jouanna's text in the "Notes" section.

you've attached your book info to the wrong book
table of contents and editor review are of Jouanna's book on hippocrates not the Loeb Library No 482. it appears under Jouanna's book also
