For those who have not read Paul Greenberg (or have never heard of him), this book is a good place to start. It is a collection of his newspaper editorials about famous, infamous, and little-known people from across the spectrum - politicians, authors, actors, sports figures, and more. Paul brings both sympathetic insights and subtle incisions into each biographical sketch. The chapter on Ayn Rand alone is worth the price of the book, and it is only a typical example of Paul's ability to combine character assessments with observations having moral value.

This book covers in detail the film restoration process. It starts out with information about film, its history and how we perceive light and motion. It then goes into the technical processes and into the ethical concerns that arise in doing a restoration project. One of the few books to cover the subject. This book is pricy, but thorough. At times it gets rather technical but overall I learned a lot about film as a medium and the considerations that any film-maker (especially the ones producing only digitally) should consider, in terms of how to preservation. It is written in a short section bullet-point format. This localizes the concepts and discussions in concise areas which helps the reader - when the going gets too technical you can skip easily to the next bullet. The books has a section on techniques and case studies too, as well as a comprehensive glossary. Overall I found this to be a meticulous work on the subject. I'm giving it a generous 5/5 stars, mainly because it is one of the only books on the subject, and it does it very well.

In detailing the largest and most significant research study of its type (i.e. The MacArthur Study of Mental Disorder and Violence), Rethinking Risk Assessment describes what is surely to become the seminal work in the area violence and mental illness. The authors point to the methodological flaws in many earlier studies that failed to establish clear links between mental illness and violence. It moves beyond previous studies to point to a clear link between serious mental illness and an increased risk of violence.

Although based upon a North American population (i.e. with its higher societal rates of violence generally) the size of the study, and the relationships it demonstrates suggest that this work has significant implications for other jurisdictions. The book illustrates tools clinicians can use to assist with identification of those with higher for risk of violence.

Although actuarial methods do not offer a panacea for problems associated with risk prediction, they nevertheless provide pointers for increasing the precision with which such assessments can be made. Monahan et. al. acknowledge the limitations of such methods, and point to the complexity of clinical risk assessment for violence potential. The authors also point to the broader contextual, and problematic issues associated with false positives and negatives, in terms of prediction.

Armed with the information contained within this text, clinical staff will have a thorough grounding in the most up to date evidence in the field. This should provide a solid foundation from which staff can approach the complex issue of considering risk assessment generally.

This is the most wonderful book for United States History. Whether you take the course, or just want to know about our country, it is a great, easy to comprehend text. Although it is out of print, I have had this book for about 10 years now. I actually found this book in a school garbage pail! LUCKY ME! It was definately a find of a life time!

Klippel's "Rheumatology" came as a surprise in its first edition. Now, the second edition probably reinforces its position as the number one textbook of Rheumatology on the market. Not only is it written in an easy, down-to-earth manner (without losing its scientifical objectivity), but it balances depth and focus on every single topic it approaches in a masterful way. To the medical student it provides the basics in a comprehensive approach, while providing all of the juicy tidbits of information, along with the clinical evidence that the resident and the practicing rhumatologist needs. It also constitutes an excellent source of practical illustrations, diagrams and clinical photography. The clinical cases of each section allow for a perfect correlation between the theory and the clinical, everyday challenges. All in all, a great book, the one to beat if there is to be a new, definite textbook in this field.
