Rapture--WHEN?????
This book describes events before rapture of the Christian Church as described in the Bible, particularly in Matthew 24 and directly challenges the THEORY of rapture beofre the antichrist and the tribulation period of Revelation as espoused by the: Left Behind series of novels, many American religious denominations and leaders, Trinity Broadcasting Network and most of today's televangelists.

In Pastor Bortolazzo's novel we see how afraid Christians and their clergy are to consider that the Church could be here and tested by the first six seals of the tribulation. Can they afford to be wrong and thus leave all of us unprepared for the test?

Wouldn't you rather know what Jesus says WILL happen than take the word of those with a vested interest in their own man-made theory? PLEASE, STUDY, PRAY, AND LISTEN TO THE HOLY SPIRIT, and thus KNOW for yourself!!! This very readable new book will help you know.

Excellent introduction to stochastic processes
I like this book very much -- It provides an excellent introduction to the subject of stochastic processes from a physical, as opposed to a mahematical/axiomatic, poit of view. It also provides a good introduction to the very basic aspects of mathematical finance. It includes a rather detailed introduction to Levy processes, which is not easily available in introductory textbooks. I highly recommend this book for physics undergrads who wish to learn the subject. Mathematicians may not really find it to their liking.

Excellent coverage of the math and the applications
I wish I had had this book 20 years ago when I first studied stochastic processes in school: I was very interested in them, but did not have a clue about what they were good for.

The book clarifies why we care about Levy distributions as opposed to plain old normal (Gaussian) distributions. I never understood this before. (If you're too lazy to get the book, I will just say it is because of "fat tails". In the world of finance, many people treat the Law of Large Numbers as if it were the Law of Small Numbers, and don't realize how big the samples have to get sometimes to get the effects you want.)

The book would be suitable for undergraduate math majors or graduate students in physics or finance who have enough mathematical background to follow it. It's over the head of people who can't do calculus and under the chin of graduate math students who probably would prefer something more pure and abstract.

They Will Steal Your Heart
I don't know how she continually does this but Ms. Paul will steal your heart with "The Stolen Bride"

Our hero, Kayne the Unknown, ashe was known to the people in the Village of Wirth, is the type of hero one generally falls in love with - handsome, manly, and mysterious. It is no wonder that Sofia Ahlgren dreamt of him as her hero to save her from the evil clutches of the man who would be betrothed to her.

Kayne was gentle, kind and tortured. Ms. Paul heaps upon this hero all the elements to keep you interested from the first to the last pages. What is the mystery of this village smithy (?) who keeps to himself and appears so wealthy? Read and discover the layers that one uncovers to discover the soul of this wonderful hero! Highly recommend you find a copy of this ... book. Wonderfully exciting, hold your breath, ending!

I'm in love!
I wish I knew Susan Paul's secret for creating such fabulous heroes. I have fallen in love with every one of them (including the heroes she created as Mary Spencer). Here we have Kayne the Unknown who is of course noble and strong - we expect that. But he is so much more, and Susan's skill at slowly peeling away the layers of so complex and exciting a hero, compelling the reader to keep turning those pages, boggles the mind. Susan Paul's writing is always fresh and crisp without ever falling into cliché, her characters real and engaging, her atmospheres uncannily vivid. Like her other works, "Stolen Bride" grips you from the very start and doesn't release you until the final breathlessly romantic page. Highly recommended.

Funny and educational
An educational and very funny read. The facts are all true, but have been presented in a consistely funny and readable tabloid style. Maps, pictures, and fact boxes (and some very funny ads) support the text. Highly recommended.

Funny and fun
Very wry, very funny, and very educational, this tabloid newspaper-style book follows the story of early man from the missing link to about 3,000 B.C. Great fun for adults as well as children. Highly recommended.

Haiku becomes new
Words on paper glow Photographs illumine new worlds Haiku becomes real.

A Beautiful, Touching book
"Ice-cream wrappers bloom

In overflowing baskets

Summer in the Park"

Jane Yolen

This is a "haiku" from the book. Each poem is matched with a memorable picture of the city. The pictures are of everyday scenes and the haiku are easy to read, yet the effect is haunting. Although the book is only 40 pages long, a person could spend hours reading and looking at the pictures.

Children and parents and teachers will read this book over and over.

Praise for Stories from Where We Live
Minneapolis Star-Tribune, July 29, 2001: "This book is a wonderful reference, beautifully illustrated."

A rich blend of generations of voices and stories
These stories of the North American prairie lands provide a rich blend of generations of voices and stories of natural history and the land, blending poems, stories and essays with insights on both native peoples, geography and wildlife. The result is a multi-faceted collection which doesn't neatly fit into singular categories of natural history, geography or culture; but which embraces them all.

Regional experiences superbly presented story & poetry.
Stories from Where We Live focuses on regional experiences from dwellers on the North Atlantic coast ages 9 and older, but is recommended in our adult issue because the entire family will relish these stories. From netting crabs on the Jersey shore to outdoors experiences in Delaware, this gathers regional experiences told through stories, poems, and journal entries to provide an inviting collection of tales.

Armchair Traveler Must Have!
This anthology is a collection of stories rooted in the North Atlantic Coast, beginning with Newfoundland. It includes the genres of poetry, short story, fiction and creative non fiction. Intended as a teaching tool for children, I found the book to be compelling in the imagery it evoked, particularly of the sea and its inhabitants, both human and animal.

I told my wife, if I'm ever in a coma....
I told my wife that if I am ever in a coma clinging to life, she should play these tapes. I can't say enough about MacQuarrie and his story telling ability. No one can describe better the experience of huddling in a pre dawn duckblind as wings whistle overhead in the darkness. Nor what it's like to feel the sure pluck of a brown trout at your fly during a spring rain. You will feel the glow of the woodstove and relish the ache in your arms that comes from rowing your boat back to the cedar cabin on a North Wisconsin lake. MacQuarrie's literary voice, the subject, and characters of his stories make my heart ache for a time that I was born too late to experience. Buy this trilogy. If you are a hunter or fisherman you will never regret it. If you aren't but take time to listen to these stories, you might find yourself looking at old shotguns, bamboo flyrods, and bluebill decoys in a different light. You might even find yourself in sleeting rain on a North Lake someday as wings whistle overhead.

The Stories of MacQuarrie
This is for anyone who is ever thinking about buying a book with stories by MacQuarrie in it. Buy it and don't look back. MacQuarrie wasn't an advertiser like so many things are today. He wrote about everyday people and their love of the out doors. You must be careful though because after you read MacQuarrie it will be hard to find someone to out do him. I never heard of him before I found a book that Zack Taylor compiled with the stories of MacQuarrie flyfishing. Buy anything you can find by him and you won't be sorry. Enjoy MacQuarrie in your private times when you need things to be enjoyable and he'll never let you down.

A classic, beautiful book
People will be framing the artwork from this book fifty years from now. And it's one of my son's favorite books. Great for reading aloud, one of the books you keep reaching for. A classic story, well told and beautifully rendered with images that are faithful to the actual traditions and styles of the Haida and Tlingit people. So it's not just "mind candy" -- it's an introduction to a culture.

I simply fell in love with the artwork and its young hero.
Paul O. Lewis does a great service to children by using a scholarly approach to his young hero. Giving us not only rich and evocative artwork but portraying the ancient tale of the mythic hero with fresh and innocent eyes is a wonderful gift. Readers seeking the beauty of a children's book that provides an uplifting experience and faithful cultural feeling will fall in love with this book just as I have. -V.S.

Straight to the Top: Beyond Loyalty, Gamesmanship, Mentors, and Other Corporate Myths

Excellent Road Map
This book is absolutely one of the best books I have read on career planning and navigating the corporate world. It demythfies the corporate game and shows who really goes ahead. This is an excellent book for all professionals who want to proactively plan their own careers.

Telling it like it (still) is
It's a shame that this book is out of print. Written in 1990, it preceded the web and therefore the possibility to influence a business audience via the additional word of mouth of thousands --in forums such as this.

Paul Stern was a CEO of 4 multi-national companies (Unisys, Burroughs, Braun and Northern Telecom) before the age of 50! His insights into the ethics and discipline of rising to the top on one's own accomplishments, should be required reading for all who would aspire to top management.

These lessons have not changed in the 11 years since it was written and are fundamental enough not to change for several more decades. Because the core concepts repeal pieces of myth like company loyalty, gamesmanship and mentors, the clear writing reveals a different kind of "how to" and a good amount of "don't bother to's" as well.

I can truthfully say that if you want an insider look into the mind of a CEO, no matter what your current occupation or management tier, you will come away with insight and inspiration, if not a course to set-- on your own way straight to the top. Good hunting.
