This is the best series that I have ever read
Paul Block does a tremendous job in the San Francisco series. I have read all of them, San Francisco, The Deceit, Darkening of the Light, The Calling and Beneath the Sky. Mr Block takes the reader to these times and places and keeps them there. Two thumbs up. A must read if you can find a copy.

I have enjoyed this book immensely.
I would like to find the 2nd of the series called Darkening of the Light of the San Francisco series. I have looked for over 3 years for it. The book Darkening of the Light I found was another series. Are there only 3 books to this series? or four? please?

Full of romance, and suspense.
I am very fond of this book. It is definetely my favorite book of all time. I've read it about 10 times and I still enjoy reading it every time. I would be even more happy if I was able to find the continuation of this book. I have been looking for it for two years.

Humans will give up all freedom in the name of safety
It is scary, when fear reigns, as we have it today in the USA after the attack of 9-11. Dannon encounters WW III, stating "fear so great that humans will give up all freedoms in the name of safety!" Should the USA become the "Land of the Safe" and the "Home of the Oppressed"? Who would write a hymn to that? Dannon went to "heaven" after he died and he had many visions into the future. Yes, we are in the earth to co-create with the deity, he is told. This book is extremely fascinating. It confirms carma - the balance - as he experiences his former deeds on earth and its after-shock. The purgatory: we have to suffer everything we did to others - like a ripple-effect. Do I recommend this book? I wish every person wrapped up in their faith, Muslims, Islams, Christians, Jews, Sufis, Buddhists etc. would read it, because no matter what your believe is, this book is true for all of you! Let's shoulder our burden together and avoid a worldwide conflict WWW III - ...

very profound and worth the reading
i was truly amazed by this book, i mean, watching how the main character completely changed his life from being a total killer and looser to be a guy who helps people, to me is amazing. I liked most of all the way he describes what he sees, from when he dies the first time etc. it is truly a book worth the read, and for those who are into things like life after death stuff, this book is a must to have

This book provides convincing facts about Life after death.
The author, who was struck by lightning, died afterward. He was brought back from his death and revealed the world he saw after he died. Spirits he met in the other world disclosed him movie-like images in the future. The book contains messages from "spirits" about the entire human race and our Earth's ecology problems. This book is easy to follow yet embedded with highly sophisticated messages to chew on it. A great book to read!

Wilcox book is a Screaming success!
For everyone who thinks they know what it takes to be a top gun pilot based on the film, Top Gun, run, don't walk to the store and get Bob Wilcox's "Scream of Eagles." Here's the real story of the creation of Top Gun during the Vietnam war and it's a hell of a good story as told by Wilcox. He really puts you in the cockpit with the best of the best. They should make this into a movie!

This is gaining popularity on the Internet
This book is becoming a buzzword in flight simulator forums around the Internet. Anyone who's 'flown' a flight simultor on their home computers should read this book. It'll really change the way you view PC 'flying'. I also recommend Wilcox's other book, "Wings of Fury", which is a collection of tales from Navy and Air Force pilots from Viet Nam to Tripoli to Desert Storm. "Scream of Eagles" is a must-read for aviation enthusiasts and Viet Nam historians, and a very good read for everyone else.

I recommend this book to any military aviation enthusiast
SCREAM OF EAGLES is a book that tells about the Navy's air war in Vietnam- the terrible losses of expensive aircraft to a peasent's air force, and the triumphant victory after the creation of the Navy's Fighter Weapon School (Top Gun).

This book has accounts from such Navy pilots as Randy Cunningham and others, as well as detailed analysis of dogfights in Vietnam and in the Top Gun school. It's obvious that Robert Wilcox knows his stuff about Naval Aviation.

"Authentically taut"
"Sea Stories" is a collection of authentically taut, often terrifying true tales Ishmael wouldn't be ashamed to take aboard the "Pequod." From the very first of its slim 117 pages, "Sea Stories" will hold most readers like a gaff-struck cod...a seabag full of spun yarns gathered while working aboard 18 different commercial fishing vessels...in cruel North Pacific Waters out of Warrenton, over the terrible Columbia River bar. "Sea Stories" may appear to be a quiet little book, but it's a sleeper. If you see it floating around anywhere, snatch it up - then hang on, for it's filled with startling power. -- Paul Pintarich - The Oregonia

"A pleasure..."
If you're looking for a special book for someone who loves the Oregon Coast, look no farther. John Paul Barrett's "Sea Stories" is a pleasure simply to hold in your hands---Vickie Nelson--Oregon Coast Magazin

Filled with startling power. A "sleeper." Don't miss it.
The stories relate the difficulties commercial fishermen must live with; how those fishermen risk their lives and lose their lives. He sets forth what is to follow in the book's opening paragraph: "Never had I worked harder...or so little. Never had I earned so much...or so little. Never had I felt more alive...nor had I ever come closer to death than while working as a commercial fisherman." I urge you to ...buy one. J.W. Forrester

A reader from Danville, California
This is an excellent book. If you or someone you know has is considering adoption as a birthmother or adoptive parent, you really ought to read this book. This book gives a detailed account of a woman's long ordeal from the point of being raped, pressure from the church to give up her son, her sense of loss, her search for her son, the triumphant moment when her son is found and then, finally the joyous time they meet again! An uplifting book that shows that with a determined spirit you can accomplish most any thing and in this case, find a lost loved one!

While maternity homes were viewed as punitive and humiliating experiences, birthmothers had others like themselves to commiserate with. But, not all birthmothers had the maternity home experience! Many were shipped out of town to serve time as maids, cleaning ladies, and nannies in exchange for a bed and food to survive. (I know of one young woman who had to care for two toddlers and an infant.) Still others lived in tiny apartments during pregnancy and moved to another location after relinquishment. Evans did not go to a maternity home. As a result, for more than two decades she didn't know of any woman who had surrendered her baby for adoption! Evans tells how she felt alone and isolated in her secret pain. Regardless of the setting where they lived out their pregnancies, birthmoms do share a sense of powerlessness! Most were sentenced to a life of inner shame, of unresolved loss. I give Evans five stars because her story shows the strength of the human spirit to survive.

Powerful, powerful, powerful!!
A spellbinding story by a truly gifted writer

a classic on the arctic
Paul Nicklen was raised in the Arctic. (on Baffin Island) perhaps that is why he understands the special beauty of the Arctic and was able to capture it in his photographs.

Incredible photography
This is an incredible collection of photos. I relived my Arctic experiences and could feel the cold and hear the quiet. This collection will remain with me forever and my compliments go out to the artist. I look forward to another publication in the near future.

Awesome photos
Received the book as a gift and thought that the photos were absolutely incredible. These pictures have made me want me to visit the Arctic. I think this is one of the finest publications for coffee table books and have put it on my Christmas list.

The Secret Path

Excellent suggestions as to how to access the deeper self
Brunton knew much more than he chose to show in this book; he was a very serious student of the path...and a sage. He started out as a journalist and those writing skills allow him to write clearly, simply and yet to explain one way of reaching the deeper mind and deeper reality. This is an excellent description of one way of accessing ones deeper self. I am sure there are many ways to climb that particular mountain...and yet he must surely be correct in stressing relaxation and "no-mind" (though he doesnt use that term) as milestones on the way to universal consciousness.

One step at a Time
In this book Dr. Paul Brunton invites us to define ourselves in our quest for the Overself. He asks the question 'Who am I?'. He then outlines three stages of meditation: self-analysis, breathing & mental quiet. He continues to describe the peace and serenity that we will achieve once we have completed these 3 steps and have awakened to our Overself.

An excellent book that I read almost everyday just before my meditation.

A new way of living
This extraordinary book explains in simple language what life is all about, and why we are here. It`s about you and me.If you are disatisfied with your life read this book and you will see things from a different point of view. The load of cares and troubles which most of us carry about with us can be thrown off and a won-derful feeling of peace and freedom can take their place.Simply by reading and understanding the explanations given you can lift your life up and experience a new beginning and an ever fresh ou-tlook on what seems to be a boring existence.Life is to enjoy.

Good start,
The first part of this book is good, but the second part isn't. ... The first part of this book is from an old book called "The Captive" by Olga Tegora. It didn't have an ending and apparently two different writers gave it one.

This one's a keeper.
This is one of those books that you want to read over and over again. It is well written, has a coherent, interesting plot, and excites the reader with scenes written from the point of view of both the trainer and trainee in sexual submission. If I could keep only one book in my collection, this would be it!

PAIN BEYOND IMAGINATION
Theme of this book is not to piss off a man that has a desire for you. Just let him know very sweetly and firmly that you are not interested because you never know when the man of your nightmares will be a reality. This book was about a debutante Caroline who spurned the attention of a Mr. Rothberg. Mr Rothberg took offense to her handling of the situation and decided to take matters into his own hands when approached with a way to save face. Catherine was kidnapped and taken to a place where pain is spelled C-O-N-T-I-N-O-U-S. She was raised to be a lady, but trained to be a slave in the most painful way. In the end when she finds out who owns her horror and shame are beyoond her belief.

A vivid description of American culture in the 1970's
This is an extremely educational and informative piece of work, especially regarding the details of the Nixon, Ford, Johnson and Carter administration, along with extensive information about the Vietnam War, WWI, WWII and the Watergate crisis. The literature section was fascinating. It was exciting to read the brilliant poetry of Adrienne Rich and John Ashbery. Rich's poetry touched my heart because it focused on the suffering of women who lacked a voice in their defense against discrimination. Rich emphasized what women desired socially and in the workplace. Her poem titled, "Sources," begs for women's freedom and democracy. It plans to break away from the silence and to end female discrimination. What was inspiring about poet Ashbery was that he instructed his students to write poems based on paintings. For example, Ashbery's poem titled, "Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror," was very intriguing, due to the idea that one does not see one's reflection when looking in the mirror. The painting depicts how we long to change, yet we must accept ourselves as we are. Sometimes we feel trapped with ourselves and isolated from the exterior world. We are on a constant strive for acceptance to be in unison with the outside world. What impressed me a great deal was artist, Jasper John's crosshatching paintings. For example, his painting titled, Cicada, (1979), encouraged individuals to analyze a painting, uncover the mystery and meaning behind the drawing and to focus on the unseen. I especially enjoyed reading about the unique fashion of the 1970s, the beginnings of disco and punk music and popular films like: Carrie, Pulp Fiction, Taxi Driver, Jaws and Saturday Night Fever. The book grabs the attention of readers who have experienced the 1970's and those of a later generation who wished that they were there. I liked the idea behind Toni Morrison's book titled, The Bluest Sky, because it reeducates away from white ideals and beauty that imprison African Americans. Stephen Paul Miller's work help readers remember the early forms of self-expression in the 1970's and the courage of women on their road to freedom. The title of Stephen Miller's work, The Seventies Now: Culture as Surveillance, is appropriate because the 1970's was a time of renewal and change and an exchange of new ideas, freedoms and individualism. American culture was under surveillance because people wanted to be themselves by stressing their uniqueness. Alteration in people's speech, behavior, and in other forms of expression is the reason why our culture was under surveillance. Stephen Miller demonstrated a creative style of writing by gradually moving from one topic to another, which added variety to my reading. This is an excellent source of relevant information for students who want to relate to or explore the era of the 1970's. Stephen Paul Miller has displayed his imaginative side. His splendid choice of words describes the 1970's in full accuracy and makes this piece a true learning experience.

A new and brilliant approach to cultural analysis.
Dr. Miller has succeeded not merely in creating a wholly fresh analysis of America in the 1970's, but in developing a new set of critical aparati. Very impressive and useful work.

A brilliant and original thesis about American culture!!!
Miller elucidates his thesis brilliantly and concisely in the book's introduction. His "micro-periodizing" of American culture deconstructs and relocates the seventies decade with reference to the sixties cultural revolution and the Reaganomics of the eighties. Now that we have the hindsight of the nineties...this book was just waiting to be written! Miller micro-periodizes cultural phenomena within the political context of the Nixon Era. While Miller is indebted to Foucault's theory of periodization, he takes his departure from Foucault's grid to account for changes between epistemes. The first chapter defines the concept of "rippling epistemes" to account for the fact that epistemes are always in transition. This serves as a very coherent and insightful thesis for the book.

Specific strengths of the book are the critiques of literature, painting and cinema. The points of view regarding the works of John Ashbery, Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns are radical and creative. Miller's sophistication with poetry and painting is truly impressive. Also, the feminist critiques of the works of Toni Morrison, Adrienne Rich and Sam Shepard present new ways of looking at the texts which would benefit students and scholars alike.

It should be emphasized that the book will have value to the public at large (and not just scholars and students). The references to popular culture make the book quite appealing to the general public.

Miller knows his subject! Clearly, the book is the result of a lifetime of enthrallment with the subject matter. Highly recommendable! A tour de force!
