Last thoughts of a great thinker
This book was a work in progress when Paul Shepard died. His wife and partner, Florence, worked to finalize it and bring it to publication. We all owe a debt of gratitude to her for that. Paul Shepard threw off ideas like sparks during his life and this last effort is just that; sparks of ideas which we can only regret will never see the full development of his other works. However, whether you are a fan (or foe) of Paul Shepard and his ideas, this book will not fail to challenge your thinking.

The book is a series of essays on a wide range of subjects, centered around Shepard's central thesis that human ecology was too centered on the 20th century, and not enough on the Pleistocene. I have all of Paul Shepard's books, but I often find myself returning to this one when I have a few moments to reflect. Try it, you will be rewarded.

A story of a very personal relationship of genius
This book covers the time when the author Paul Horgan discovered the music of Igor Stravinsky and as fate would have it, became Stravinsky's personal friend. Very biographical in the first years of Horgan's writing career then the exciting part comes into play when he actually meets Mr and Mrs. Stravinsky for the first time, and fosters a personal and professional friendship up until the death of the maestro. Anyone interested in the genius of Stravinsky and his life as a conductor touring the World after 70 years of age will be fascinated by this account.

Best Book of Illustrations Ever!
I have had a copy of this book for several years, and I thought Mr. Tan had a published a new and larger version; but, alas, apparently not. I would encourage any preacher to try to get hold of this book, even a used one if possible. It makes for great reading all on its own, and covers almost every area of life you can think of. All I can say is that it is incredible.

The ultimate Horror-fim encyclopedia
Phil Hardy's excellent endevour to catalogue the films of, primarely, Hollywood reaches it's peak with the Horror and Science Fiction books. They both reveal a genuine interest in the media and, as an information non-digital database, these two items are the ultimate choice for collectors and horror/SF aficionados. Where Leonard Maltin says goodbye, Phil Hardy says hello. These items can be used either as a coffeetable companion, or as an encyclopedia for the serious movie-fan. There are some european films that deserves mentioning that have been omitted, but in view of the overall care in which way theese books have been presented, the omissions are readily excused. This one-volume specialized encyclopedia offers a comprehensive overview of current research and development in production and operations management. Extensive changes in this area have occurred over the last 20 years, introducing new concepts and practices, such as just-in-time manufacturing and total quality management.

Approximately 1,100 articles are included in the encyclopedia. About 1,000 of these are short, paragraph-length entries that introduce new concepts, principles, and practices, such as genetic algorithms. The remaining 100 articles, which are each five to ten pages long, offer up-to-date coverage of complex activities, such as product development. All the major articles and many of the shorter ones provide references to important research on this topic. New concepts and practices are often tied to specific companies, and in many of the articles, "real-world" examples are given.

The editor provides myriad ways of finding needed information. The table-of-contents includes a list of all articles in the encyclopedia, arranged alphabetically by the article headings. A separate list of the lengthier, major articles are provided, also arranged alphabetically by the article heading. Some keyword terms mentioned in the articles (e.g., Valdez principles and MAINOPT) do not have their own entries, but they can be located by using the subject-name index.

Some of the additional indexes are unique reference sources in themselves. Most notable is an index of the "real-world" companies and organizations featured in the articles. The references cited by these articles lead the reader to a prepared list of articles that are usually scattered across a variety of trade journals. The editor included two bibliographies, both composed of the references cited by the articles. The first is arranged alphabetically by author, the second by topic, allowing the reader to search for additional information by both author and subject.

This encyclopedia is important addition to any academic library supporting teaching and research in business or engineering, and it would be useful for managers in company or organizational settings. It not only details innovations in the area of production and manufacturing management, but also links them to related concepts and practices through extensive cross-referencing of entries. The encyclopedia is a bit pricey ..., but it is a well-constructed, well-written publication that offers state-of-the-art coverage.

The best book on the largest national film industry
The Indian film industry is the largest film industry in the world making over 700 films every year in over 20 different languages. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it as a reference book. It is a must for any major library.

Fantastic
Simply one of the best accounts of Australian contemporary politics, especially the 1980s. Thorough, complete, and highly readable. At over 600 pages its a long stretch, but the adventure is worth it. It puts into a single volume one of Australia's great political periods.
