The essence and power of Molokai in pictures and words...
Having had the opportunity to live on Molokai and experience its beauty and power first hand, this book is the only work that I've seen that captures so much of Molokai's essence. Rik's aloha and connectedness to this land and her people shines through each and every picture. And the words accompanying the pictures are genuine and heartfelt.

So many Molokai people and special places are immortalized in his pictures including slack key guitarist Kelii Mawae, fisherman extraordinaire and noni farmer. I read and gaze at this book over and over and never tire of it. It reconnects me with Molokai.

Enjoy! And if you are interested in ancient history of this powerful place, I suggest 'Tales from the Night Rainbow' by Pali Jae Lee and Koko Willis.

Astonishingly beautiful and inspirational Hawaii artbook
Moloka`i, An Island In Time is a gorgeously photographed and beautifully designed art book depicting the Hawaiian island of Molokai in a way that nothing before this ever has. The design is by Robin Rickabaugh, who some might remember as the guiding force behind the stunning "Oregon Rainbow" magazine of the 1970s.Photos from this book were excerpted by National Geographic Magazine for an article on Molokai in the 1980s.Precious little has been published about this amazing island, and travel magazine articles to this day do not even give readers a glimpse of what Richard Cooke reveals in this wonderful book.Indeed, Molokai, An Island In Time was the inspiration behind my own book, Driving & Discovering Maui and Molokai. Up until I found Richard's book, I had no idea that Molokai was such a beautiful destination.

The best financial fiction book I have ever read.
I wanted to name my son Franz Cimballi after reading this book. "The dancer" as Sulitzer calls him is one of the most ingenious guys you'll ever meet. Sulitzer levels with Harold Robins in the Adventurers with this book.

Very exciting
This was a very exciting book for people like money, adventure and entrepeneurship.

Adorable, clever, and contemporary
Fabulous dialogue and humor abound in this refreshing tale of the cow that jumped over the moon. The change of attitude is welcome, fun and irreverent. A must-read for anyone and their child. Sweet and aesthetic illustration makes it a pleasure, suits the story beautifully. Looking for more from this talented writer.

One of our very favorite books
This review from The National Parenting Center sums this great book up perfectly:

This hysterical and irreverent book which explores, in extraordinary depth, the well known Mother Goose line, "And the Cow Jumped Over The Moon", will have you and your children in stitches. With her tongue firmly planted in her cheek, Gennifer Choldenko tells the "true" story of the very first moon jumping bovine. You will laugh out loud as you read this book, we guarantee it. The illustrations by Paul Yalowitz are equally wonderful making this a book you'll love having on your shelf. END

WOW!
I looked at this book in a museum shop and I was amazed. I thought it was one of the most beautiful books I've ever looked at.

An amazing talent, Safdie
I recently returned from a trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, and was enchanted by the magnificent Vancouver Public Library, designed by this most brilliant architect. Since I had also been captivated by his work on the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, I just had to have this book filled with gorgeous photographs and fascinating descriptions of Mr. Safdie's work all over the globe. This "album" is a feast for the eyes and will be my treasure for years to come

a fine wine
The cultural revolution we know as the Sixties happened because a unique breed of creative activist/anthropologists gotinvolved in making American culture live up to its ideals. Some of us were "trained" while others developed and applied their own exceptional intuitive anthropological self-cultural awareness.

Paul Krassner, besides being a child prodigy musician, a funny stand up comic, an outrageous satirist and founder and editor of the Realist, sometimes described as "the first underground newpaper", and a great friend to many great people, is also one of the key Sixties activist anthropologists who was present and involved with just about every important juncture of the cultural revolution. To this fellow participant observer, he was/is a model culturally aware activist and unlike most anthropologists, he was and is funny. Best of all Paul is still going strong into the new--rapidly aging-- millenium

Reading Paul's stories in "Murder" about his fascinating Sixties, Seventies, Eighties, and Nineties, friends--Lennie Bruce, Steve Allen, Abbie Hoffman, John Lilly, Ken Kesey, Jerry Garcia, Ram Das, and best of all, other fabulous people you haven't heard of- is like sharing a great bottle of Burgundy wine or some fine grass. Read this book...

PS. (The Seinfield viagra scenario is hilarious--Classic Krassner.)

Great Book
This is my first encounter with Paul Krassner's work. He is a '60s legend, and he still manages to write fresh, entertaining pieces, that really offer a different perspective. I enjoyed the pieces about Ken Kesey, Lenny Bruce, Hunter Thompson, Abbie Hoffman. I wasn't bored with any of the topics he covered, even the Monica Lewinsky affair, which is old news by now. It would have been boring if it wasn't dealt with Krassner's wit, humor, and knack for coming up with original story ideas, and ways to tackle an assignment. As a journalism student, I've learned a lot from Krassner, and I want to say, Thanks for the great book man.

Murder at the farm : who killed Carl Bridgewater?

Blind Justice
This book is written by a seasoned investigative journalist. It concerns a local murder committed at Wordsley in the West Midlands. The case provoked national outrage because the victim, a 13 year-old newspaper delivery boy called Carl Bridgewater, seemed to have stumbled upon a burglary and been gratuitously killed to silence him. Four men were convicted of his murder in 1978. Twenty years later, three walked free from the Court of Appeal - the fourth had died whilst in prison. The author, Paul Foot, had long been one of their leading champions.

Foot tells the story well combining a wealth of evidence of their innocence with a journalist's readability. The story as it unfolds is a depressingly familiar one of the police constructing the case for the prosecution by prematurely concluding investigations into alternative lines of enquiry. The defendants were all small-time local criminals and it was all too easy for the police to believe the worst of them. That is commonplace enough but what followed is what makes this case a particularly instructive one. Foot shows how the police and prosecutors, convinced of the righteousness of their cause, forged confessions and concealed exculpatory evidence to ensure that the defendants were convicted.

As evidence of their innocence mounted over the years, so public concern grew until by the time of their release there had been six separate police inquiries, two hearings before the Court of Appeal and the case had been referred back to the court twice by the Home Secretary. What was almost as bad as the prosecutorial misconduct was the dogged determination of the courts to uphold the convictions in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. We may well ask ourselves - why do courts behave like this?

A Brilliant Read
Paul Foot does it again in this book, about one of the lesser known miscarriages of British justice, the Bridgewater murder, where four men were unjustly imprisoned for the murder of paperboy Carl Bridgewater. Foot meticulously goes through the evidence, finding all the flaws and holes in the prosecution case, and positing a plausible alternate theory as to who could have committed the murder. The Bridgewater Three were released in 1998 (one died in prison), due in large part to the dedicated work of themselves, their families and this fantastic book about them. For anybody interested in the workings or otherwise of Bristish justice, this and Foot's other books about Helen Smith, Colin Wallace and Paul Hanratty are a must read.

Ignore "Publishers Weakly" - Awesome, Funny Story
I've read this book twice now. This story is destined for film if the right director picks it up. Mr. Micou takes you into the bosom of a collection of loveable, absurd, contemptible little people and leaves you pretty much loving something about all of them. We learn that "we are paid, therefore we are" can be a pretty good justification for continuing to suck in air despite our own doubts about why we do what we do. The narrative that leads up to O'Connors detection in the French ambassador's house almost made me wet myself. A wonderful book.

Paul Micou conquers with his blend of wit and intellect.
With The Music Programme, Paul Micou gives us a look behind the egos and esoterics of classical music with stunning cleverness, while simultaneously painting a portrait of a struggling government experiment as it claws for funding. I discovered Micou while abroad and am overjoyed to finally find his work in America on amazon.com. Don't miss his other works, that are, I dare say, even better than his initial novel: The Cover Artist, The Death of David Debrizzi, and The Last Word.

My Friend Emily
I have a child with Epilepsy. This book has taught her and her friends a lot. I understood it also helped the Epilepsy Foundation raise money. It is a shame it is out of print or only limited numbers are available. The publisher must be a fool. This book did only good and was well written and illustrated. I loved it and so did my daughter. Her entire class read it and one of my dearest friends who lives in Canada said their child's class read and loved My Friend Emily too. Can it be made available again?
S. Snow

Knowledge leads to Understanding
This is an excellent tool for parents, teachers and children who wish to educate others about epilepsy, its causes, symptoms and ways to help individuals suffering from a seizure. The story focuses on entertaining the reader while educating the reader at the same time. The illustrations are charming as are the characters. Please pick up a copy and enjoy while you learn about epilepsy in simple terms.

Cars from the origins untill now
This book is one of the best I've ever read over the world of cars. It will make you travel from Belgium to the States with a thousand of little stories really enjoyable. Try it !

A Must-Read For Every Automotive Enthusiast
A living legend in automotive journalism and racing, Paul Frère weaves his fascinating life story through the cars he has owned, tested and raced. This autobiography is jam-packed with historical and technical information that Frère lived through and experienced personally. Starting with the family car in the 1920s, Formula-One racing in the 50s, winning LeMans in 1960, with Olivier Gendebien, to writing about, helping develop, and driving cars for the 21st Century, Monsieur Frère, at the age of 84, still routinely test drives today's automobiles and racecars at over 150 mph!

An intimate, unique viewpoint on the history of the automobile, as fun as a fast drive down the German Autobahn- with no speed limit!
