I haven't done a great deal of traveling for the last two years but after perusing the book "300 Incredible Things for Travelers on the Internet" I am definitely more excited about traveling! I disagree with a reviewer who stated that some of the links in this book are inactive. Yes, some may be have been in accessible when he tried to click on them but what website isn't from time to time? I found that each one I clicked on worked beautifully.
Thank you so much for giving me that extra boost to get out there and travel! I can hardly wait now!

I've been in the process of planning a trip of my own, and I honestly don't know how I would have ever survived without it! If you are planning a winter/spring backcountry trip and want accurate, detailed information on routes, terrain, and level of difficulty for some of the best skiing/snowboarding terrain in California than this is the perfect book. The book is well organized, clearly written and beautifully illustrated. Everytime I pick up the book I find myself mentally planning new trips and plotting descent routes on the photographs. An added plus to the book is the wealth of information that it contains on preparing for a backcountry experience. The author covers everything from avalanche danger to equipment to bring on an extended trip. He even includes an excellent website for those who want more information. There always is a question in my mind when I read any backcountry guide about the accuracy of the information. Who wants to set out on a trip only to find out that the route maps or the descriptions don't match the terrain? The author is someone with extensive backcountry experience who has done each of the 50 trips described in the book at least once. We all sould be so lucky! Having taken two trips with the author that are detailed in the book, I can say that he did an excellent job of describing the routes and the terrain. If you are someone who is looking for backcountry ski/snowbaording adventure, this book will make your trip planning a whole lot easier. Enjoy

Having recently purchased Paul Richins book, ³50 Classic Backcountry Ski and Snowboard Summits in California,² I was very impressed. Like all books published by ³The Mountaineers,² it is nothing but First Class in every way. Mr. Richins has gone out of his way to provide the rest of us with a gem which will lead one to enjoy the fantastic world of the winter Sierra.

Even if one is nothing more than an arm chair cross country skier they would find this book highly enjoyable and enlightening reading. For the more adventuresome person, Mr. Richins book would be their ultimate guide to a world of adventure. The pictures, the writing, the maps are all five star. The little extras that Mr. Richins has added throughout the book, such as writings of John Muir, and others, adds the spice to this delightful book.

Mr. Richins, since he has obviously researched, personally , all 50 of the peaks listed in his guide, has been able to make a very reliable summary of each peak, from Intermediate, Advance, to Expert. This would easily allow me to select a challenge within my ability and, along with the excellent guide of the book, make winter trips I would have never thought possible.

Mr. Richins book is a veritable treasure-trove of information. From well researched check-lists to clear descriptions of everything from how to get to the trailhead to routes on the peaks; this book covers it all! Mr. Richins love of the Sierra Nevada shines through these pages. He invites his readers to share his love of the winter Sierra and imparts knowledge that makes it possible for expert and novice alike to enjoy these mountains. History of the Sierra Nevada is woven in throughout the book, creating an interestng counterpoint to the climbing routes. A must for the backpack on winter trips in the Sierras! Something to read by headlamp on those long nights in the tent!

Packed from cover to cover with maps, information about local resources, trail guides and more, 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles is an excellent and enthusiastically recommended planning resource for Twin Cities area hikers and outdoor enthusiasts looking for exercise, variety, and fun.

Fantastic book. I never realized what this area had to offer in hiking opportunities. This book really covers the area very well. The maps and description are a great read and enhance the experience. I've walked a long way in my time and this book just adds to the adventure.

This book is great for visitors to the Twin Cities or long-time residents. Excellent directions and maps and useful and accurate information about the difficulty of the trail, trail length and access, plus special elements of interest. The book reads as though Tom is right there with you. One item that I find especially unique is that this book also presents trails that are accessible to people in wheelchairs or who have physical limitations that would preclude them from enjoying most areas of hiking and yet they can still get the feeling of being in the woods and a chance to enjoy the great outdoors and there are also hikes for the more experienced hiker. Excellent variety of hiking trails for all, plus a few areas that I did not know about and I live in the Twin Cities! Would make an excellent gift!

I had been sober and in recovery for two years ,when i hit a very rough spot in my life . A friend and fellow recoverer gave me this small but huge book of knowledge.It brought me such great comfort and peace that i would dearly love to share it with so many others .

This little booklet finally found me in 1990. A friend shoved it into my hand and said, "Read this. Then we'll talk." The short version of the story is that I have been sober ever since, and the little book has helped me through every crisis since then. I can't tell you how many copies of this book I have personally "worn out," bought and given to others, or just recommended to others in all walks of life, with all sorts of problems. This little book really has answers.

I have this book on tape. The voice takes a little getting use to but after that it is a great little tape. The author is simple and easy to understand. It tells how to deal with life good and bad and how to be closer with God. The tape helps us to remember that life only has to be lived one day at a time and tells us how to get the most of each day.

I took a class with one of the co-authors at UCLA Extension and she taught me more than any of my Theatre classes ever did. If you can't get into one of her classes, then this book is the second best thing. The authors teach you that acting is really psychological and the best way to perform a character is to BECOME that character. This book gives you exercises and tips on how to create characterizations that becomes a persona of yourself. Not many teachers can teach that fact. Any actor knows that to "nail" a part is to give the best performance ever. This books shows how you can become the character and how that character can become you. Prepare for your Oscar speech!

It is a goldmine of ideas. It is also excellent for stimulating creativity; the book is fun, not a manual but a book of tools for exploration.

This book is an invaluable guide for the teacher and the actor alike. There is no other book on the market which handles the subject of improvisation with the variety or depth of this volume. If you want to know why it is so difficult for presidents to keep their pants zipped, buy this book. It's not all about power. Some of it's about being just plain crazy.

Fericano breaks down how horrible union work is in his classic One Minute President. His views on the way our country should run are spectacualar. More people should write moving books like this.

The One Minute President is a political satire for our times. It not only sets the record straight about what the Reagan administration did to further the cause of buffoonery, but it's a primer for anyone who wants to learn the ropes about what it takes to be a successful leader. Brilliantly parodying the successful One Minute Manager bestseller, the One Minute President is a real classic and an excellent read. Note: Fericano and Ligi, founders of the notorious disinformation syndicate, Yossarian Universal News Service (YU)in 1980, were the real pioneers of parody news.

I liked Paul Falcone's emphasis on the objective of a disciplinary system, i.e. "to create and maintain a productive and responsive workforce..." I wish I'd read this book before one of my employees brought a gun to work...and almost didn't get fired because I had not documented his previous acts of intimidation. Falcone urges us (and explicitly tells us how to) write up work place problems in such a fashion that adequately documents subpar performance, and encourages the employee to rehabilitate himself or herself.

NOTE: I see that other reviewers emphasized the sample letters and diskette, so I'd just like to add that Falcone's introductory chapters are also very informative and lucidly written. He tells you why and how you can treat a subpar employee fairly and thus keep your corporation from having to hire back the employees that you eventually had to fire.

A long-term problem employee was transferred to my department. I'd seen other two other supervisors repeatedly get intimidated by her, and the HR dept. ignore the entire situation. A friend recommended this book to me, and WOW what a help! The author gave me verbiage for the disciplinary conversations I had to have with my employee, showed me how to document her poor performance, and the attorney who eventually reviewed the file at HR's request gave me an "A". The new HR person who took over right as the employee was resigning (on the verge of being terminated), said the written warnings were the best she had ever seen. Disciplining this employee was a very difficult, emotional process, but I felt confident that I was doing the right thing for my company, and legally was protected because this book took me step by step through it all.

This book is a lifesaver, especially since all the write ups are on diskette. It really gives a detailed outline of how someone is to be disciplined. From the outlines in the book it gives detailed step by step instructions on how to document employee performance issues. I'm glad I bought the book.

Got this after a desire to collect the 9-11 comics as my ending run in comic collecting, and I must say I am impressed with not only the size of it, but the consitent and diverse work inside. Loads of unfamiliar work that perhaps wouldn't be seen on such a public level with such quality, and at 200 pages for the price its at, its damn good.

The stories themselves? Some make you think. Some make you wonder. All make you remember.

There's really not much I can say about this book. The stories contained in it are poignant and touching and heartbreaking and hopeful all at once, and each and every contributor has given not only their time and talent to the project, but clearly they've also given a piece of their hearts. Being born and raised in New York City, the events of September 11th are especially painful to me, but I came away from reading this book feeling just a little more hopeful than I did when I started it. Kudos to all involved for a magnificent effort. (And all of the money goes to a good cause, too!)

The power of the comic book medium is that, by using drawings, they express emotions and reactions that are difficult to put down in words. Due to the extreme nature of this event, this is an excellent way to express what we have all been through.

The most impact is provided by the independent, i.e. non-superhero, writers who express what they went through with pictures and words. From the initial shock to the lingering malaise, the complete cycle is expressed. Reading this book brought back those feelings in me and, even though my emotions were swelling up, I kept reading. This event is now part of our collective experience and we are forever affected by it.

I recommend reading through when you need some perspective on what's important in life. Enjoy life, tell your friends and family that you love them because you never know when it may end.

This review doesn't get too into the content of the book but the impact that it had. As for me, that's the sign of a good read.
