Operation Brighteyes
Of all the Vietnam "POW left behind rescue missions" this one rings true. If I were a POW in Vietnam I would want this team coming for me. Cover to cover it was filled with action, drama, and most especially for me, technical accuracy. I felt like I was in Vietnam...again. A must read!

Great novel!
If the military is going to rescue a POW, this is how they'll do it! Fast, fun read. You can tell the author is a combat veteran and not a closet commando. This will make a dynamite action movie!

Fascinating Socio-Anthropological Info Source
Have you ever wondered why some races get so big while others are so small?

Have you ever wondered why modern ethnic divisions so closely follow the boundaries of nation-states?

Hattaway doesnt attempt to answer these questions directly. But this book is a cornucopia of the relevant raw data, as concerns the vast area we now know as China.

Centuries of absorptive imperial policy have erased millenia of fascinating political, cultural, and genetic history in China's core regions. In most parts of China, practically everyone is raised to think of themselves as simply part of the "Chinese" ethnic, cultural, and political monolith.

Modern continuations of those imperial policies regrettably ban almost all politically non-motivated research, meaning very little accurate information is available. But at the edges of the empire, where the digestive processes have only had a few centuries to work, there is still a lot of colorful variety to be observed. And thankfully, there are still-independent neighboring nations from which to document those observations.

From a vantage point in nearby Thailand, where many of the same ethno-genetic blocs are represented, Hattaway has been able to glean enough information to weave together a remarkably extensive picture of the ethnic situation within China, primarily its South and Southwest.

The resulting tapestry is a valuable collection of information for anyone, whether their interest is in global evangelism like the author, or in more secular perspectives: Human anthropology, Southeast Asian history, minority affairs come to mind--anything that involves the relationships between genetics, geography, politics, and culture.

The real world is much more complicated than the two questions I started out with would imply. Ethnicity and geography are of course much richer things than simplistic abstractions like race and nation allow for.

I heartily commend Hattaway's effort to document that particular part of this world.

Great tool for praying and reaching the Chinese!
If you have used Operation World to pray for peoples in the world, and you have a heart for the Chinese people -- you got to have Operation China! I am a Chinese from Taiwan, and honestly, I didn't know there are almost 500 people groups in China! This book introduces every people groups in China briefly. It talks about their location, identity, language, customs, religion, and Christianity influence and effort on each group. Best of all, I especially love the photo of each people group. Honestly, when I was just flipping through the pages and looking at those people's faces -- the book touches me so much and I was weeping... because I know that God had created them all and He loves them so much. But not many of them know who He is or even His existence. I was so humbled by God because of His greatness -- I'm a Chinese from Taiwan, but I'm only a small part of the 500 people groups who lives in China! This book helps me to understand the urgency of reaching those people groups and again shows me the heart of God -- as illustrated in Luke 15, that He would go for the 1 lost sheep and leave the 99 behind. God loves those minority in China as well... no matter how small a group they might be, they're still the 1 lost sheep to Him and He will go search for them until they are found. Praise God for the efforts that different people had put into this book!

Optical Mineralogy

Invaluable Identification Guide
As a user of this book as a student of Geology I can highly recommend it. There is no douth in my mind that this remains the best book made for identification in optical mineralogy. In addition to containing descriptions of optical properties for over 450 minerals, it has a easy to use system of tabels which crossreference and compare the optical properties of the minerals. This system is very well taliored and makes identification, not a dream but a lot easier. The book also has a large section on the theory of optical mineralogy and polarizing microscope.

Information Rich Treasure
I used an older edition of this book in my crystallography studies. It is fasinating to see the pictures. There is a complete section that was helpful on using the polarising microscope. It also has an identification guide which is useful although a modern database could also do this type of searching. A good book for a geology student.

"A Precise Definition of Christian Prayer"
Paul Y. Cho makes intimate fellowship with God accessible to anyone who seeks to improve their discernment in the realm of prayer. Cho stresses that God does not have any favorite children, but that He simply gives His Grace liberaly to those who diligently seek it. Dr. Cho also shares how fasting sharpens your ability to be used as an instrument of God by the Holy Spirit. He as well uses many of his own experiences, and also those who are a part of his church, to relate his techniques to everyday life. In Prayer Key to Revival, Paul Y. Cho defines throughout the entirety of his book a very fervent and effective threefold definition of Christian Prayer. So it would be most wise and abundantly profitable to purchase and read this book.

enlightening
This book taught me how to pray with the holy spirit. It is very detailed in how to pray with the holy spirit. Since Dr. Cho lives this way, he is speaking from experience and that is what makes it all better. I read it over and over because every time you read it you learn something new. It has helped me mature as a born again christian, I am not just a believer now, but also I am going up the spiritual ladder.

Best book ever written about MGA
The perfect restorers guide. It's hard to find something about originality which isn't noted in this book. A ,must, for the purist ! With this book and a part catalogue, you are able to finish the perfect restoration.

Written by the expert, very comprehensive, and great photos.
You should always start with the workshop manual, as a practical guide to all the technical stuff. But this is the next book if you are starting from a pile of bits. It will show you what the final result should look like. It contains many good tips, and its attention to detail is terrific. This book and the workshop manual, and a good parts catalogue (with the exploded drawings) are all you will ever need.

MORE READABLE THAN MILLER'S
This excellent tome is aimed at those sitting the boards examination or the UK FRCS(Tr & Orth). It is highly readable and concise and constitutes an excellent alternative to Miller's textbook of Orthopaedics. however it is more expensive but should be obtained in the year leading up to the examinations. Highly recommended.

Classic Examination textbook.
This text is a must for Orthopaedic Registrars and trainees about to sit the FRCS(Tr & Orth) / Boards examination . It is a credible alternative to the Miller textbook ; Review of Orthopaedics. For hthose tired of wading throgh longer texts it is easy to read and easily digestible. It should be a readily accessible tome in Orthopaedic Departmental libraries

Excellent college student reference
I originally purchased this book for a class, yet I have found myself going back to it on many occasions. I helped me become a better writer with its many fine examples of poems and short stories. With excerpts from some of the world's well-known writers, this book provides examples of many different styles and techniques that can be valuable to any serious college student.

Let go your ego!
I now believe that most emotional disturbance is a result of this thing called "self-esteem/worth/" and their evil twin "ego". Social fears can be attributed to the idea that we will somehow be magically diminished in some way as human beings if people disapprove of us. This book is a great start in demolishing that foolish idea. Another great book that covers this subject is "Overcoming the Myth of Self-Worth" by Richard Franklin.

Short and sweet.
The book is insightful, and well-written. I reread it any time I'm feeling a bit depressed or down. Outlines the basic princliples of rational-emotive therapy.
