A different time, a different country
If this book is the same as the 1932 original (which I've read), it is a fascinating book. I believe this book is a compendium of a periodical published 1932-1933. There are articles about building and flying a Pietenpol (either the Sky Scout or Aircamper), and other projects. In this era, you could build a plane for peanuts--Spruce was in ample supply, every farmer knew how to weld, and those wooden garage floors were great building jigs for a fuselage. When it was time to cover the aircraft, you could get the muslin down at Woolworths. This is a great book for anyone interested in learning about this era in aviation. Pietenpol plans are still available from the decendants of Bernie Pientenpol. The information presented here is not complete enough in this modern age to build an airplane, but you will have an idea of how they did it in 1932. A fascinating time-capsule from a bygone era of aviation.

Added 1/5/2002: This book is the same as the original, and includes articles on building a Pietenpol Aricamper, a Heath biplane glider, and other articles on building techniques and reducing the drag on an aircraft. The modern-day plans for the Aircamper have changed a bit, and this book is of special interest to Aircamper builders who would like to see some of the history of this remarkable early homebuilt.

Very practical and easy to implment
One of the most practical book which I have read. Defintely Paul Strebel has put to gether an excellent book from well-known authors who have wealth of practical knowledge on the topics. It easily can be distinguished that what authors writing are from their solid and in-depth experinces in the field. I highly recommend this book to those who have some experinces in the field and need new practical guidelines to move their organization/team into this 21st century industrial-informational arena.

Story and Images Meld Magically
Author Marilyn Helmer and illustrator Paul Mombourquette have rendered a minor masterpiece in Fog Cat. Helmer weaves a tale of Hannah, her Grandfather, and elusive cat they spot on the seashore one day. Through persistence and patience, Hannah slowly wins the confidence of this feral cat, drawing her at last into the home she has come to share with her Grandfather. The day-to-day simple lives of this trio, bound together by love and necessity, is revealed not only by Helmer's choice verbal depictions but also by Mombourquette wonderful illustrations. His delivers exactly the right tone for the story, matching image to words seamlessly, capturing the warmth of the home and the rugged misty beauty of the seascape.

The story ends with Fog Cat's unexplained disappearance, but Hannah does have left the sole surviving kitten from a litter. Helmer neatly bookends the beginning and ending of her story, neither explaining why Hannah has come to live with her Grandfather, what happened to her parents or her Grandmother at the start or resolving what happens to Fog Cat.

Can it get any easier?
This book is a necessity for the new football season. I haven't found any other resource that shows so clearly and simply all the new rule changes for both high school and college. And it shows every case where there is a difference between the codes, so if you are ever in doubt, it sia simple matter of flipping a few pages. I would recommend this book to football officials of any level for before and during the season reference.

A must for football officials!
Year after year, this is the book that gets me prepared for the new football season. It is so easy to read and informative on all the new NFHS and NCAA rule changes for the new season that I share it with my crew to make sure they are as prepared as I am. And for those of you who officiate both codes, it presents every case in which the rules differ, so you will never get mixed up. It is a great resource for officials of every level.

A life on the fringe
I liked this book. That surprised me. This speaks directly to strength in narration and artistry of Mr. Choukri, who shows us, in this first volume of his autobiography, the despair brought about by ignorance and poverty. Our young man's apparent lack of hope for a better future is made clear from the start. In his teens, born in Marocco, during the French domination, he struggles to find the rules and reasons for the world around him. I say apparent lack of hope, because after the first few paragraphs we already know that he is sensitive, smart and will attempt to survive as best he can, without any help from his family or society. In this respect, I was satisfied early on, for I sensed it would be all right to attach my emotions to this hero; that he would not betray my confidence. Mr. Choukri's narration is also masterful in the depiction of the most despicable acts of violence both physical and moral. He is detached. So we can also keep our safe distance.

I confess to having a special reason for reading this book. Since I spent some time in the early 1980s in Oran, Algeria, I have been intrigued with the peoples of North Africa. And this book takes place in many of the cities and towns that are familiar to me. What surprises is to see that even though there was a good thirty years difference between the time this story took place and the 1980s, there were vestiges that for some, things still remained. I can only hope that there has been considerable improvement in the past 20 years.

This is a book that makes us think. And even though the subject: a disenfranchised youth in the life of petty crimes in the fringe of society is not unusual in the literature of developing countries, it is important to return to these themes once in a while, getting out of our comforatble, well educated bubbles, and rethink our own contributions to world around us.

I am a better person for having read this book. That's a sign of excellence.
