Fishing Glacier National Park

Most "well-documented" account of the Battle of the Big Hole
This incident is said to be the "best-documented battle of the Indian Wars." I find it amazing that with all this documentation, three-fourths of the Natives shall remain nameless. I wonder if the author bothered to speak with any of the Nez Perce at the Lapwai reservation. I have.

As for the narrative, the author spins a good tale. The action is strong and the writing brisk. You are propelled forward through the pages. The heavy use of quotation makes the characters somehow more "personal" and "alive." It is a well written book and quite enjoyable.

My advice is for you to enjoy the war story without placing absolute credence in anything that you read here. Do your own referencing and check the "facts" against several other sources without placing blind faith in this manuscript simply because the author is highly credentialed.

Powerful truths and gentle humor about living life well.
Fishing Lessons collects a variety of insightful essays from a passionate fisherman and professional psychologist who is also a wonderful writer. His stories speak about what is important in life--taking risks and reaching for goals, cherishing family and friends, respecting yourself, surrounding yourself with people who's qualities you admire, and always, always, keeping your sense of humor. Though I can count my flyfishing days on my fingers, this colorful angler's words resonated with me. If your passion isn't fishing, but is hunting, or hiking, or even stamp collecting, Quinnett's stories will still inspire you and enrich you in surprising ways. This book will make my Christmas shopping easier, as I know several sportsmen that I can't wait to share it with.

Highly recommending reading for all anglers.
The next best thing to fishing is to read about fishing. In Fishing's Best Short Stories, Paul Staudohar has gathered almost twenty-five memorable stories from the mid-19th to the 20th century from some of the most popular and respected writers which truly capture the spirit of the sport. The contributors include Stephen King, P.J. O'Rourke, Guy De Maupassant, Robert Traver, Joyce Renwick, Henry van Dyke, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, E. Annie Proulx, Thomas McGuane, Philip Wyle, John Taintor Foote, Bob Shacochis, Stephen Vincent Bent, Jack Gilchrist, Bob Shcochis, Robert Traver, Elmer Ransom, Geoffrey Norman, Weldon Stone, Jason Lucas, Edwin L. Peterson, Roland Pertwee, Paul Hyde Bonner, Warren Gibson, and Sparse Grey Hackle. Fishing's Best Short Stories is highly recommended reading for anyone who has ever had rod and reel in their hands, or waded hip deep in streams and rivers, or angled from a boat on ponds and lakes.

Five Minutes Off the Motorway (Cadogan Guides)

A Break from The Motorways
This is a revised version of the book, just published and I have managed to get a copy. An excellent travellers book, if you like to avoid the expensive mediocrity of motorway service stations. As the (now sub-title) implies, all the places listed can be reached within 5 minutes of leaving the motorway. Anyone thinking of visiting the UK would do well to buy a copy of this revised book. The author's sketches add greatly to the guide. Well worth the money.

Incredible Value
I am a former SMI franchise owner. I know the value and cost of a Paul Meyer program. If you ever wanted to own a SMI program and felt you could not afford it, do not pass up the opportunity to read this book. You can't afford not to.

Paul Meyer is a master at writing the essence of a topic. There are so many golden nuggets in this book you may discover it is the greatest value of any book you have purchased.

I think this is a must read for anyone that has dreams they want to achieve. It should be mandatory reading for anyone in a position for responsibility and leadership. Invest in yourself big time with this book!

Fixing Urban Schools

Average review score:

A pointed and useful overview of educational restructuring.
Hill and Celio have done a remarkable job of summarizing over 15 years of various attempts to "restructure" urban public education systems. In this brief book, they (1) carefully outline the strengths and weaknesses of each particular strategy - from site-based management, to school "models," to vouchers, to contracting; (2) reveal what each strategy presumes but does not itself provide for, and (3) highlight the political and ideological assumptions that drive reformers to favor one particular strategy (or way to implement a particular strategy) over another. What oft has been thought but never so well expressed, Hill & Celio's articulation of "integrative capital" theory draws together numerous threads in the reform literature and, for my money, is worth the price of the book alone.

A short book but by no means a quick read, Fixing Urban Schools is about the one thing that can finally transform public education -- not more educationist gimmicks, new ideas.

Classic silver-age story-telling...
The work of Broome/Infantino/Giella shine again in this third collection of Flash's adventures from the silver age. Any comic reader from the 60s will not have to be convinced of the quality of these tales. Story-telling at its best!
