Baby Boomers Take Note
This is the type of book anyone with elder or soon to be elder family or loved one, needs to read BEFORE you need to provide care. The book takes you through a logical thought process that will remove a lot of the stress and anxiety that elder care can produce. The ideas presented go beyond elder care and address real life issues including work, family and self. My review is based on what this book brought to me with my personal experience of dealing with a sick parent. I highly recommend it.

Excellent handbook for working family caregivers
If you are caring for an elderly loved one and employed too, then this book is A MUST. It provides practical information to help you sort through the overwhelming tasks of working and caregiving. It is a valuable resource for persons who are new or experienced with caregiving.

great handbook for working family caregivers
This is an excellent handbook for the working family caregiver. John Paul Marosy has presented us with a workbook that is easy to use and chock full of information. It is A MUST for both new and experienced working family caregivers.

This book rocks!
I got this book as a gift and I can't stop looking through it. It has great historical info on the electric guitars and lots of beautiful photos of various models, odd and not so odd. I'm surprised at how many rock legends contributed their axes to be photographed for this publication, the Beatles, and many more are included in this feast for guitar lovers.

I'm impressed, I only wish it was three feet thick...

A good coffee table tome
Given as a gift to my little bro', he seems to enjoy it thouroughly, nice pics, high quality, a good gift for guitar fans.

Eye Candy for the Guitar Lover
This book has the greatest wealth of quality guitar pictures of any "coffee table" guitar book I have yet seen. As a bonus, there is a quite good history of a large number of guitar companies, from obscure to famous. I found that it leaned a little too heavily towards a few top brands (ie: 34 pictures of Fender Stratocasters), but others may find this to be a plus. I would rather have seen more equal space given to brands like Peavey, Yamaha and Ibanez, who have also produced a large variety of great electric guitars. All in all though, a wonderful book.

A Terrific Organic Text and Reference
Dr. Paul Scudder was my undergraduate organic chemistry teacher at New College of USF in Sarasota, FL. His book continues to sit on my shelf even now, as I am working on my Ph.D. in synthetic medicinal chemistry. We used it along with Dr. Seyhan Ege's undergraduate Organic Chemistry text, which is a traditional "white-pages" type of organic text. His class was the best class I took in my entire four years of college, and I cannot recommend his book highly enough to anyone who truly wishes to gain a fundamental understanding of organic chemistry principles. It was a tremendous help to me both in college, as well as in grad school while preparing for my qualifiers. The book is written at a level that is accessible to college underclassmen, but it is also useful for upper level undergraduate and graduate students who would like to review important organic chemistry concepts or see the concepts presented in a new, easy to assimilate, way. His 3-D reaction coordinate graphs, pathway decision cubes, and pathway classification schemes are some of the strongest points of the book. He also presents some advanced theories such as HOMO-LUMO and HSAB theories that are often not really taught to undergraduates, and these are extremely well-done and easy to follow. Dr. Scudder has great passion for his subject, and that is apparent in his book.

The few minor and petty problems with the book that I can think of are that he assumes that the reader has some previous organic background knowledge, the writing is sometimes choppy and jumps around, and the graphics are not state-of-the-art, as he did them himself. Chapter 2, on thermodynamics and kinetics, is especially difficult to follow for someone who has no knowledge about these subjects.

indispensable tool for organic chemistry students-all levels
A superb, well-organized classification of organic chemistry for practitioners at all levels. Clear, concise, with a large number of charts and graphs, some of which are indispensable. A handbook which boils down most of what you need to know to understand a wide spectrum of organic reaction mechanisms. Reminds me of the Washington University medical manual series, which filtered all the medical knowledge of each subspecialty essential for daily use into a single pocket handbook.

A revolutionary way of approaching organic chemistry
Paul Scudder approaches organic chemistry from a completely different angle. While most organic books stress that a student memorize hundreds of seemingly unrelated reactions, this text is different. It teaches you the tools to classify organic reactions and solve them logically. This book and its method should be the standard for how organic chemistry is taught.

Feynman honours his hero, and electroweak guy pays tribute
This is a little jem of a book. The arguably two greatest living physicists of the 80s, Feynman and Weinberg, both Nobel Laureates, pay tribute to their master, the man who said that mathematical beauty is what physicists should look for in physical laws, the one and only, Paul Dirac. These memorial lectures are the best one could wish for, together with Abdus Salam's tribute a couple of years before. I derived pure delight in reading Feynman's lecture, which explains the existence of antiparticles predicted by Dirac in his equation of the electron. Weinberg however surprisingly outstands Feynman in giving a lecture on symmetry laws, etc. These lectures would have surely thrilled Dirac, without doubt. For all physicists who like to have those little precious books on their shelves, it's a very good and enjoyable buy.

Physics by two of the very best!
As usual, the best physics books are short and to the point, as is this one. The two Dirac lectures may serve as a perfectly good mini physics course all by themselves. I always enjoy a Feynman lecture, and this is no exception. He cuts to the chase without sacrificing the plot. But, I must say, in this case the Wienberg lecture is the better of the two. Weinberg's style has a particular grace & beauty about it that gently exposes the aesthetic meaning of the search for a picture of nature.

Two of the best give great insight into fundamentals.
Feynman yet again gives great insight into the laws of physics, this time exploring the reasons for existence of anti-particles, starting from the dirac equation etc.. Plus some really outstanding photographs, that fella Weinberg will be chuffed to have his name mentioned on the book cover!

Soon to be John Paul the Great!!!
This giant of the 20th Century, will be known as John Paul the Great by future historians. Today, his teachings are considered "out of touch" with the modern world by the mouth pieces of worldly power, especially on sexual morality. He is considered worthy of derision by them, how wrong they are.

The thought of JPII is trans-modern, it is a bold and sophisticated philosophical approach to the problems that afflict our world. His insights penetrate into the philosphical and spiritual roots of the modern crisis and has found the solution. His approach is a rigorus engagement with modern thought and transcends the dead-end thought that has emerged among intellectual eliets and poisons our universities.

For those who would gloss over his writings, they would miss the mystical import and profound depth of this thinker and leader. So subtle, so rich, it is easily missed.

John Paul II is a prophet to the world, a prophet whose message has largely been ignored.

In the not too distant future, when our need for the TRUTH presses upon us ever more heavily, those who search will find John Paul's writings and be liberated and ennobled by this man's potent seed.

Take this and steep yourself in the truth and allow this man's spirit, the spirit of the Father, Child and Love to fill you.

What a book! What a Pope!
Here they are, in one collection. Why buy them individually when you can have them all in one place?

This important book provides a study of 12 of Pope John Paul II's encyclicals, from the first of his pontificate, Redemptor Hominis, through the much discussed Evangelium Vitae and Veritatis Splendor, the not-to-be-overlooked Redemptoris Mater, and Ut Unum Sint.

Scholars and non-scholars will be pouring over the Pope's gifts for the next century to come. The encyclicals offer Pope John Paul II's brilliant blueprint for the third millennium. It is a blueprint fashioned from Scripture itself, but with modern insights to carry us forward across the "threshold of hope."

J. Michael Miller, C.S.B. offers an excellent introduction to Papal encyclicals and helpful notes prior to each chapter. In addition, an exhaustive index makes this a superb reference for pastors, teachers, writers, theologians, researchers, and the average layperson desiring to know more about the Church.

Religiously, Intellectually, & geopolitically important
Father Miller has captured an entire set of the most significant written works of the Papacy of John Paul II. Clearly the present pope has been a religious and geopolitical figure of first importance in the past 22 years, as has been amply documented in such works as Weigel's 'Witness to Hope' and Bernstein's 'His Holiness.' The universal intellectual achievement however of JPII is understandable most readily in his encyclicals. These documents speak from and reveal a philosopher and theologian of the first quality; indeed, as with Leo XIII, it may take at least a hundred years for the importance of his work to be understood. Fr. Miller has the qualifications on all fronts, as a philosopher, a theologian, and his former employment in the Papal Secretariat of State, to gather and remark on these works. Students of the times and their deepest roots will doubtlessly find here a collection of primary source materials that are indispensible to their understanding.

Thorough, informative, interesting
I'm in a band who is currently being produced be Ed Stasium. The other day he excitedly told us he was featured in a new book put out by Billboard. I thought it was cool that he was being recognized. Today he brought the book into the studio and I spent three hours looking through it. Once I got past the thrill of finding people I'd met and even seeing my own band's name (Skypark, listed under the Nicolo brothers)I continued to find more and more fascinating things. This book is definitely worth checking out.

living history...a must for all music lovers
Hats off to everyone involved in this project. It's about time some more attention was paid to record producers. If you're addicted to VH1's 'Behind The Music' then you'll love this book.

Comprehensive guide to record producers and discographies
This book is for anyone who has even the slightest interest in what goes on behind the scenes in the music business. Great stories from the men and women who helped make music history. I loved being able to read about how some of my favorite music was made and what went into the process of it's creation, from both the producer and the artists prospective. The writing in this well-researched encyclopedia is clever, thought-provoking, and oft-times quite funny. Great reading and reference for music writers, or the public at large.

Eternal God: A Study of God Without Time

A Tensed-Review About A (Supposedly) Timeless God
Paul Helm's work needs to be considered in a few ways: in terms of its cogency of argumentation, the clearness of writing, and when it was written. For each of those, his book deserves a five-star rating. This book is written very clearly to give you an idea about what some of the issue are. The only thing I thought that was not dealt with in terms of a clear explanation was "Cambridge changes." Nevertheless, that did not inhibit my understanding through the rest of the book. Also, Helm's book was written in 1987-88. The issue of "God and time" is one of the hot topics currently circulating philosophy of religion journals. That being said, for the time he wrote it, it deals with the stronger criticisms to a timeless God (e.g. as put forth by Swinburne).

This book starts by looking at some of the challenges, such as to the origin of the idea of a timeless God within the Christian world view; if God is in time, then are different temporal events identical with one another in God's mind?, etc. It considers one model, Stump-Kretzmann's ET-simultaneity model, and opts for another position. Following which, the idea of indexicals are considered; relating the idea of God in time to a God that is in space. Following there is a discussion on God being a timeless-person; his immutability in respect to his timelessness, and a relating issue of God's knowledge. With that said, an obvious relating discussion of God's (fore)knowledge is in hand, and free will. Both compatibilism and libertarian agency are discussed.

In that discussion about freedom, the following is considered: the Ockhamist distinction of 'hard' and 'soft' facts; logical determinism and theological determinism (in a discussion of fatalism); is God the author of evil (or sin)?; or does an atheist version of determinism fair any better than a theological determinist account for grounding human moral responsibility? Lastly, there is a discussion about referring to a timeless God. Both Anthony Flew and Kai Nielson's work are considered; Helm works with Kripke's distinctions to form a plausible response.

Over all, this book is not an easy read; but it is not an easy topic either! But again, Helm writes clearly and his theory is at least initially plausible. It would have been nice to see a discussion on the different time theories (A or B theory), but that was not absolutely necessary. Perhaps in relation to today's work, it would be. But this book is worth reading to get an understanding of a defense for the traditional view of God. See also God and Time: Four Views, also made available at Amazon.

One out of a few to maintain the timlessness of God
Unfortunately the traditional (i.e. classical) view of God as a timeless being is waning. However, there are still a few keen men, such as Paul Helm, who argue for and defend the traditional view of God. "The Eternal God" is a gem of a book. Helm spends his time in these pages refuting the notion that a timeless God is incoherent. God, being the creator, Helm claims, is one of many solid evidences that can account for God's omniscience, and ultimately for God's eternality (i.e. timelessness). Helm also discusses the consequences of divine timelessness and human freedom, and our language of reference toward an eternal being. Moreover, Helm covers tensed and tensseless facts, indexicals, and how God knows time and how God relates to time. It must be noted, however, that this book presupposes that the reader has a background knowledge of the issues at hand. But, it is also written in such a way that if one reads the book with great care and attention, it is not too difficult to understand. I highly recommend this book as one of the better defenses of the view of God as a timeless being.

God is Transcendent and Immanent, Eternal and Infinite
A refreshing, Biblical treatment of a recently controversial topic - God's Eternity, as it relates to Omniscience, Foreknowledge, Aseity, Infiniteness and other Scriptural attributes. Our era is on the threshhold of potentially unravelling the Biblical portrait of our Whole God (He is greater than the sum of His attributes) into a 'Reader's Digest' abridged version of a 'kinder, gentler, user friendly god made in man's image'. What with process thought, free-will theists and other hybrid theories partially or radically jettisoning the historical, evangelical exegesis approach to systematic theology, we seem to have a 'free-will free-for-all'. This volume is an invaluable resource to marshal against unbiblical, neo-evangelical encroachments on the Scriptural understanding of the Person of God. While His many attributes can be distinguished, they cannot be detached from each other or His Personhood. Any 'fresh rethinking' of any one attribute, such as Omniscience (Can God know the future free actions of created agents as anything but open possibilities?)has involuntary unforeseen ripple/domino effects on each of the other attributes such as Omnipresence, etc. For example, if God cannot know a free-will future as definite in advance in toto, micro, subatomic level, exhaustively, without exception, then by definition, God cannot be truly Omnipresent in space/time reality. God is not only Omniwhere, but Omniwhen; Omnithere and Omnithen; Omnihere and Omninow. By ruling out God's exhaustive definite foreknowledge of all future free-will activity, His Omnipresence is in direct proportion downgraded to Multipresence, Penultimacy, Quasi-Eternal,Finite. Thus, we have a 'whole new god', not the Bible's Whole God. Sage, seeker, skeptic, saint - all will be challenged to re-evaluate just what God is believed in by careful consideration of this excellent volume. Wonderful source for those curious at whats behind history
This book is an excellent source if you like to know the truth behind alot of great history. Gives you origins and corrections to some of the stories handed down thru history. It is also good for proving teachers, friends, family wrong. recommended for know it alls!

entertaining
very good book, too bad it's not available right now. just contains a lot of facts that are wrong, now you can go around telling this to your friends, doubt they'll believe you, so bring the book around, becaues some of the stuff is wild.

A leading edge perspective of our fairly recent beginings
this book has affirmed my opinion and observation that conventional science has lamely tried to whitewas the many "missing links" that appear in the puzzle of humanities beginings. Lloyd Pye has presented a most reasonable and convincing arguement for a new understanding of our inception as a race on Earth, our history and our purpose, and our possible future. Step out of the conventional box of thought and belief and chew on some very tasty mind/soul food.

A Must Read For Business Owners
A most comprehensive and complete book.

This book would work well as a text for business students and should be on every small business persons' desk.

Professor Paul leads the reader from idea through business plan to reality. In addition, the evolving example of a real business, the bookstore, demonstrates the application to theory.

Get the book that reads like a thriller novel with business lessons on every page!

Dena's review
I was content with my service business, until I read the chapter on "Evaluating the Competition." I then became very aware of my competition and what they were doing. This caused me to refocus and strengthen my marketing efforts. Now, not only do I have more customers but, THEY are more satisified with my services! (I know this because I now conduct marketing surveys - straight out of Chapter 6.)

A reader from Jacksonville, Florida.
This book helped me make critical decisions about going into business for myself. The book was very informative and followed a logical path to help me make my decision. The chapter on population demographics and how to use them for my business was extremely helpful. The best part of the book was the information detailing the sources of similar business's sales and how to apply those sales figures to my business. I highly recommend this book because I would have made a costly and potentialy fatal business mistake without it.

Raise the freek flag high !
to add to the two reviews, these comics have a fabulous wealth of detail in every little picture, right down to the bottom of the page where fat freddy scat is usually upto some adventure of his own. Inspired artwork - the facial expressions are extremely funny, as is the evocation of sense of place ( as in their trip in Mayheeko ). The storylines are superb, and a hilariously riotous scathing look at humanity with all its hypocrisy and corruption. Its way, way more than just sex and drugs and late 60s counterculture ! So far I have seen people either LOVE them or HATE them. There is no middle ground. the latter group of people are usually the ones who have never interacted with people different from themselves ( in my experience ).

Imagine The Three Stooges on acid. This is even funnier.
The second volume of a four-volume set. Our friends at The Ripoff Press have encapsulated all of the mind-blowing insanity of the '60s drug scene in this tale of three hippies (Freewheelin Franklin, Phineas, and Fat Freddy) who spend their days tripping from one score to the next while dodging the landlord, the cops, bikers, street gangs, hillbillies, even the FBI! No well-rounded adult should be without the complete set. Check out the Freak Brothers web page and see what I mean.

Graphic, gritty, hilarious, and very un-PC. Not for wimps.
The first of a four volume set, this compendium of the Ripoff Press' infamous comic strip "The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" will have you rolling on the floor in tears. Provided, of course, that you can see the satirical humor in a strip about three drug-crazed brothers (Freewheelin' Franklin, Phineas, and Fat Freddy) who live only to make the next score. Each page is filled with vulgar language, drugs, sex, violence, nudity, crime, and more drugs. These things are not glorified in the strip, but merely revealed to you as real and ridiculous as any of mankind's endeavors. The black-and-white strip is drawn in a peculiarly heavy-lined style, which gives it a very earthy feel. You simply have read it to understand it, and once you stop laughing, you'll be hooked. Truly the funniest thing I have ever read.
