Fabulous primer on handling missing data
As usual, Paul Allison has produced an accessible and practical treatment of conceptual and methodological issues that commonly confound social scientists. His discussion of the meaning, effects, and remedies for missing data is thorough and clear. In particular, the section on multiple imputation is extremely well-done.

This is a reference work that will improve the scholarship of even the most rigorous researcher, and yet can serve as a wonderful introductory text on the subject of missing data for students at many levels.

What a great surprise
One doesn't usually expect a "packaged" book to amount to much. Mission Critical does. I hadn't played the game when I read it, but I enjoyed it so much that I ran out and got it - and even with high hopes I was very pleasantly surprised. The book is not the story of the game as so often happens - not even close - but the plots of book and game intertwine, with touchpoints at the start and end and throughout. Each enhances the other and really adds to the whole experience. The whole other-world universe came alive for me.

Mob Rule Inside the Canadian Mafia

Really good
I have always been interested in the mob and, when I saw this book, I had to read it. Unfortunately, it was out of print, so I had to do a special order to get it and I got it. It was very good and Paul Volpe was a very interesting gangster to read about. It kinda sucks how his life ended the way it did; but, other than that, it was one of the most interesting biographies that I ever read.

A great starting point
This is a broad treatment of M-commerce and is aimed at a broad audience of business and technical readers. Usually books of this nature are mediocre because of the trade-offs compromises in scope and content that need to be made to accommodate a wide audience. In the case of the book, though, it isn't the case.

First, the book is organized by (1) Business opportunity, (2) Applications, (3) Technology, (4) Issues and (5) Directory of M-Commerce Applications. The first four sections are both insightful and invaluable. The directory of M-commerce applications, in my opinion, does not add any value to the book because information of this nature changes so rapidly that it's inaccurate before a book is even published.

What I like about the book is the even treatment of opportunities that are inherent in M-commerce, including some insights into why Europe does not have the advantages that normally come from being early adopters (in spite of the pessimists who cite a "two year head start" while ignoring the U.S. leadership in technology implementation when we do get around to it), and the interesting view of WAP (Wireless Application Protocol), which many believe to be just an interim - the author advises to put resources and effort into WAP and make it part of a business strategy if you want to be an M-commerce player.

The survey of technologies and standards are also useful, even if given somewhat superficial treatment. The value is you are exposed to all of the factors and considerations with which to make informed decisions or gain an understanding of the M-commerce landscape. In this respect the applications and technology sections of the book can be viewed as a primer.

Overall, this is an excellent book for learning about M-commerce from business and technical points of view because it provides a context and keen insights in both domains.

Terrific book for the serious Atlantic salmon fisher!
This is definitely not just another rehash of the 'standard' flies described in so many books. These flies are those usually available only palm-to-palm at the edge of the river, or at the tailgate after a day's fishing. Fly photographs are excellent, with great descriptive and background text. This is a rare opportunity to peruse the flyboxes of Eastern Canada's most skilled tyers and fishermen. A nice bonus is the inclusion of contact information for all the contributing tyers. Kudos, Paul- a great piece of work!
