50 Questions and answers for children from Kosova
For longer than one year I've been seeking answers that will be given to the future generations, particularly children of Kosova, about the wars that were continually going on in that troubled region of Balkans. As a refugee survivor the latest crises in Kosova , I was invited in many American classrooms to answer the questions of American children about and biggest refugee exodus after the World War II. "What is War? What is Peace?" written by Richard Rabinowitz, is an inspiring book. This book answers in a very creative and constructive way many war related questions. The ability to simplify the big truths and make lessons for our children is actually recruiting peace ambassadors for the future.

Understandable yet deep
This is a great book.

When I first saw this book I thought it seemed too basic. It starts out with pitch and moves on to rhythm. These are things I know about, I play piano. But soon, as I was reading the book, I found easy to understand discussions of Mixylodian Modes and I-V-vi-IV-V-I chord progressions. Its lucid explanations of tough concepts make this an easy 5 stars. A great book for beginners to music theory (like me).

Emotion, Personality, Theraputic Outcomes, and More
I am a contributor to this book and know many of the other authors therein, but receive no
compensation from its sale. Having declared this possible conflict of interest, I can recommend
purchase of this book if you are interested in learning what can be discovered from the face
through measurement of facial muscular action in scientific research. Its approximately 500
pages contains 22 scientific articles, mostly published previously in journals, that report
research studies conducted in the late 1970s to the early 1990s, most towards this later date.
These articles cover a diverse range of topics, methods, and principles having to do with the
relationship between facial expression and emotion; clinical diagnosis, treatment, and outcome;
and other related issues. The editors's selection process, based on the use in the study of the
Facial Action Coding System (FACS, a method for measuring facial behavior), has included
competent research with above average interest, thoughtful reflection, theoretical and practical
relevance, and plain good sense that generally exceeds what you might find, for example, in your
typical social psychology journal. The authors of the articles work in many places around the
world and represent most of the people in the vanguard of the FACS movement and the new
approaches to studying behavior and emotion. This book is particularly helpful if you are new to
the study of facial behavior or have not been diligent in collecting the important articles using
facial measurement, which are published many different journals. The book provides an efficient
vehicle to catch up on the significant issues, findings, trends, and controversies in the areas
covered, including the quality and usefulness of the information provided by the face, the
relationship of facial expression to emotion, whether emotion is a coherent response system,
differences between genuine and false smiles, expression in pathological states, affect in the
psychotheraputic process, etc. The included works provide a solid foundation for understanding
how facial measurement contributes to investigating behavioral science problems. Even in the
unlikely event that you have previously read all the published works reprinted here, this volume
has value because each chapter has at least one afterward that expands on the original work in
revealing and useful ways that bring you up to date on the topic, and there is one thought
provoking article by Ekman et al. on the relation between facial behavior and psychiatric
outcomes that you will not find elsewhere. Also, the editors include their own new chapters
introducing, and finally, summarizing and integrating the works included. A table of contents,
forward by M. Brewster Smith, original source references, author list, and a lengthy subject
index are included. Take a look at the table of contents provided on this site to see more
details. The overall statement of this book is that the face contains important data about
concepts that are vital to diverse behavioral science issues. You will find that the perspective
of this book is different from several other books on facial expression currently in print. If
you are contemplating research on emotion, facial behavior, non-verbal behavior, and related
topics, this book is a helpful guide containing useful background; if you are currently planning
research in these fields, it is indispensible reading.

My son had trouble concentrating in school & staying focused.... I read this book & knew my son fit the profile for pediatric fibromyalgia. (My mother, sisters, & I also have fibromyalgia.) I started my son on guaifenesin (as recommended by Dr. St. Amand in the book), & now he is able to sit for long periods reading & doing homework without constant supervision. This book is a wonderful resource. I highly recommend it.

second verse, as good as the first...
They've done it again... an excellent book about a highly underrated subject. I had fibromyalgia as a child and without their help, I don't know where I'd be today.

Our children are our future, so why not spare them the symptoms of fibromyalgia. This book is a cutting edge look at how fibromyalgia affects children and, more importantly, how to help them avoid its debilitating effects.

Not a Soupcon but a full ladle
120 soup recipes, each illustrated in color with three photos of the steps of preparation, and one large photo of each finished recipe are featured by this latest book by Carole Clements. Her 6 years of training in Paris with Simone Beck, (the mentor of Julia Child), comes into play with her thoughtful enumerations of alternative vegetables and seasonings, and insistence on fresh ingredients. I enjoy the wholesome goodness and rich taste of soups, but feel the need to add a continental touch to a normally commplace item. I feel this exhaustive treatment by a La Varenne seasoned chef, offers a clear map to this objective. I find it an exciting and important addition to my recipe bookshelf

Probably no one will have the last word in soup, but this comes close..Leland Kreid

Tick Tock...watch the clock.
In "What's the Time?" young children discover how fun it is to learn to tell the time. The clock you see on the left upper corner in the picture is a durable clock with movable hands. The clock is available for time-telling practice on each page.

On each two-page spread, children discover how the hours of a day are connected to their daily schedules. The concept of time is easy for children to understand when they relate it to waking up in the morning, eating breakfast, playing, eating lunch, grocery shopping, taking a puppy for a walk, setting the table for dinner, bath time and bedtime.

While the times in this book follow the time line of a "typical child," children are encouraged to answer questions about what the time is when they complete these activities.

The colorful photographs encourage awareness of familiar objects in a child's life. The words listed under each photograph, help to enrich vocabulary. Once children have mastered the basics of telling time, they can then look at a real clock and feel proud that they can tell you what time it is. Here is a book which is great fun and has a high education value.

A Bishop Hill must-read
In 1850, Eric Jansson of Sweden, a charismatic leader confident in his divine mission, led some 1,200 followers to the United States, marking the beginning of the exodus of emigrants from Sweden to North America. This book tells Jansson's story, from his birth in Biskopskulla, through his receiving his diving mandate, his conflict with the Lutheran state-church, his emigration to the United States, and his eventual death. Along the way, Paul Elmen, a Professor of Moral Theology at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, looks at Jansson's theology and its roots, what made conflict between it and Swedish Lutheranism inevitable, and how it differed from Wesleyan theology.

If you are interested in Eric Jansson, or the commune he formed at Bishop Hill, Illinois, USA, then you really must read this book. It covers Eric Jansson's life in greater detail than I have ever seen it covered. Also, Professor Elmen's examination of Jansson's theology was quite fascinating, and gave me a greater understanding of what he and his followers believed. Overall, I thought that this was an excellent book on Eric Jansson, one that I highly recommend.
