Paul: An Outline of His Theology
Published in Hardcover by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. (October, 1975)
Authors: Herman N. Ridderbos and J. Richard DeWitt
Amazon base price: $35.00
Used price: $17.00

Breath-taking in its scope and depth.
This is the classic modern exposition of Paul's thought and theology. Topically arranged, Ridderbos exposes the structure and Paul's system and sheds a calm, thorough light on such matters as Paul's meaning of law/grace, flesh/spirit, present age/age to come. Ridderbos is in line with Geerhardus Vos' biblical theology without being dependent on the great Princeton theologian.

The perfect scholarly complement to E. W. Keyon's books.
I first read this book in 1980 as part of my Bible school curriculum. I bought another copy because my old one was deteriorating from so much use. This is the only book I've found that explains Paul's Revelation from a theological standpoint, but without making it stiff and difficult to understand. A must for any Christian who shares Paul's desire to "comprehend the One by whom he has been apprehended."

Paul:By the Grace of God
The material follows the Scriptures and is very well organized. Ms. Martin does a beautiful job of leading the student through each lesson while at the same time stimulates thinking. The presentation of the material is attractive and she has given the student plenty of room to answer the questions and make notes. I strongly recommend this study book and plan to purchase other books by Ms. Martin.

Paul: By the Grace of God
This is truly a wonderful study covering the life of Paul. Written primarily for women's study groups, the apostle Paul comes to life as you step through the first book of a two-book study.

The best features of this study are its insight, accuracy, and application.

The insights into the apostle make him come more alive as you work through his life.

After working through the questions, you will appreciate the thoroughness and care with which the author stays true to the book of Acts and Paul's epistles.

Every lesson is dedicated not only to learning more than ever about Paul and his growth through his ministry, but how we too can grow by the grace of God.

Both volumes were hugely successful at area ladies Bible study classes.

A fishing man's guide to life
I just put down "Pavlov's Trout" and rushed to order "Darwin's Bass". If it is even half as enjoyable, I will be quite happy. Being a fisherman made Quinnett's book extremely fun to read, but I would recommend it to anyone. He writes in the language of angling, but his lessons are in the context of life. I found the chapters dealing with raising children to be among the best.

meaningful learning about life
Quinnett reflects upon life most of the time. Fishing is just an excuse he uses in order to achieve the essence of human existence. It is impossible to stop reading the book because we get hooked all along the lines. Every society has much to learn from Quinnett's approach to life. A Blueprint for Peace
This is a great book with fresh ideas for the future of Middle East Peace. Ferraris has realistic suggestions and recommendations for the future of world peace.

Jerusalem and the way the U.S. deals with Isreal on the world stage is at the heart of the current Middle East conflicts.

Great Reading!
I think this is one book I could not help reading at one stretch. I could hardly keep it down once I picked it up. Jacques Ferraris, has done an outstanding job in bringing the reader unbiased, logical analogies, so the readers can come to conclusions by themselves. This is a great book to add to one's library - a must for everyone avid reader and book fan!

Extremely useful if you want to "manage" Cisco equipment
I like the book for the following reasons and many more: -covers both routers & switches -covers the show commands as well as the equivalent SNMP objects -tells me the inside information (e.g.) Which ver of IOS started supporting sub-interfaces, IOS hidden commands -tells me how I can leverage applications like HpOV NNM, MRTG etc

And it tells all this and more in a simple language (e.g.) The chapter on monitoring CPU & Memory resources explains lucidly how one can be proactive about monitoring these 2 key elements.

The chapter on VLAN management is another good example. One of the topics it covers is about monitoring spanning tree topology changes, how you can use community string indexing to get vlan information for each individual vlan

Incredible
I am certainly not a professional but found this book very informative. The writing was "reader friendly" but, of course, having a computer and being networked certainly are not enough credentials to fully understand the nuances of this book. I highly recommend this book for people "in the business."

Revolution
WOW. I read this play for an english class and irght now we are watching a production of it. As an activist I have to say this play captures many of the tensions in all schools of the left. Performed in the early 60s, it reveals the debate that raged between the 'old' and 'new' left. All I can say is unbeleivable.

One of the most haunting plays of all time.
Written in the early sixties, the play frequently abbreviated as Marat/Sade is set in 1808, yet many of the comments are distinctly directed toward current events, notably the upheavals in Eastern Europe. Now, with the fall of the Soviet Union behind us, the play takes on even greater significance. Despite the reassurances of the asylum director, whether a mere fifteen years or well over two hundred years have passed, the nature of revolutions, and the fanatics who cause them, has not changed. Combining historical events with modern theatrics, Weiss has produced what has been and will continue to be one of the most disturbing, as well as one of the most important works ever to be performed on stage.

excellent for psych and non-psych majors
These perspectives have helped me to learn more about my patients and improve their overall treatment. The theories are laid out in a clear, understandable manor, so the non-psychiatrist may learn. P.S. Dr.McHugh is a gem!

A Masterful Coherent Synthesis of Psychiatry
The field of psychiatry may at first appear bewildering. People are complicated. The variety of ways in which thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can go awry are plentiful. The history of psychiatry has seen a number of attempts at reductionism in the face of this complexity, most notably that of the psychoanalytic school, the behaviorists, and the biological psychiatrists. These monolithic viewpoints have each distorted psychiatry, emphasizing some important features of mental life and its abnormalities while giving short shrift to others. Further the acrimony between adherents of these schools have left psychiatric trainees as well as the general public uncertain of what to believe about the nature of mental illness. In this book Drs. McHugh and Slavney have done a masterful job of making clear what we know in psychiatry and how we know it. Paul McHugh has been chairman of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins from 1977-2000; Phillip Slavney was director of residency training in the Hopkins psychiatry department for most of that time, and now directs consultation psychiatry there. Their book describes four perspectives of psychiatry, or ways of seeing disturbance of mental life, and shows how each is especially illuminating for particular types of psychiatric issues. The disease perspective is most useful for explaining major mental illnesses such as dementia, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. It is the most clearly biological, and invokes medications for treatment and laboratory methods for research. The life story perspective is most useful for a person who has suffered a setback and is demoralized. It emphasizes the uniqueness of each individual and the meaning that people's experiences have for them. The behavioral perspective concerns things people do that get them into trouble. Drug and alcohol abuse are the most common of these, but eating disorders and sexual disorders are included as well. Treatment in this perspective prioritizes stopping bad behaviors over understanding them. The dimensional perspective looks at the vulnerabilities that people have as a result of their lifelong traits. These vulnerabilities may arise out cognitive limitations or out of features of personality such as being impulsive or being a worrier. McHugh and Slavney draw on both their vast knowledge of the literature of psychiatry, psychology, and neuroscience, and their long experience of evaluating and treating patients in order to make the case for their perspectival approach to the field. They succeed impressively, I think, for two reasons. One reason is that the approach is such an intelligent and sensible one. The other reason is that they have had the benefit of 15 years between the first edition of their book and this second edition. Major changes and additions were made between the two and the result is greater clarity, especially in the opening chapters, as well as a fuller discussion of themes that were only touched on in the original edition. For example, new chapters were written in the behavioral perspective section on suicide and on hysteria. This book is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand where psychiatry stands today. But more than that, it is essential because it makes clear on what psychiatry stands, i.e. what sets of reasoning have gotten us where we are. With this clarity the path towards new insights and new discoveries becomes navigable. In short, this book is a gem.

Philosophy that goes directly to head and heart
I've never encountered such an amazing collection of wisdom. Each sentence has a delicate balance of intellectual clarity and heartfelt insight. It's hard to find any instance in my life that isn't addressed within the covers of this book. A real treasure!

An overview of a mature philosophy.
Perspectives provides excerpts from Paul Brunton's 7,000 pages of notebooks, giving the fruits of his mature thinking. You will find guidance to spirituality, health, metaphysics, yoga, and insights into quieter, more meaningful living. Don't plan to read the book all at once. It's best digested a few pages at a time, so that you can think and ponder the words you've read.

One of a kind
Persuasive Images is a visually stunning book. No other book comes close in terms of quality or, for that matter, quantity.

Viewed purely as an art book, it's a must-have. As a history book, it's jaw-droppingly intriguing. I have never found a book, website, or museum collection as appealing and thought-provoking as you will find in this book.

I teach high school -- I have had students stay 3 hours after school just to pore over the pages of this book. It's that good.

Powerful graphic images that appear cutting edge today. . .
I was extremely pleased with this book. . .I was looking for images and I was not disappointed. From humorous to chilling it's filled with tremendously powerful works. . .many of which are as vivid and visceral now as I'm sure they were then. . .

Peter and His Magic Bedtime Cap, November 15,2000
Excellent lessons for all those who suffer through a serious illness. Faith ultimately conquers the fear and Peter is able to live his life with hope. Especially pogniant for children with terminal illnesses who seemingly have no hope. The illustrations are joyfull and very well done. I recommend book for all ages. Parents of ill children may find a way to deal with the situation and find hope themselves.

Peter and His Magic Bedtime Cap
Wow, how touching! This book is written from such an empathetic standpoint. The author regonizes the pain children experience from illness, yet offers each child a beacon of hope--excape through the power of your imagination. It is beautifully illustrated and the words seem to roll off my tongue as I read them to my children. Neither of my children are sick, but I believe the book teaches a lesson which transcends cancer (as the author implies) or any illness. It tells children that they always have the tools to cope through the power of their imagination. Cudos to the author for teaching children such a complex lesson with such simplistic words. Highly recommended!
