good for active surgeons
This book reviews and describes the uses for lasers in oral and maxillofacial surgery and dentistry. Purpose: The main purpose is to serve as an instructional guide and reference for the practitioner using laser surgery. Audience: The primary audience for this text is practicing oral and maxillofacial surgeons or plastic surgeons using laser surgery in the oral cavity. Features: The best features of this text are the color photos and illustrations. The book lacks adequate references. Assessment: This is a good supplemental book for practitioners using lasers in the oral cavity, but I do not feel it is good primary text for beginners.

The Last of the Untouchables
Published in Paperback by Hodder & Stoughton General Division (01 September, 1987)
Authors: Paul Robsky and Oscar Fraley
Amazon base price: $

A Fascinating Study of Crime Fighting
For those of you who study late night tv, you will need no introduction to the Untouchables. For everyone else, they were the unit put together to stop the organised criminals from profiteering in illegal alcohol trade back in the 1920's and 30's. Most people know the names of Al Capone and Elliott Ness, the big names in this criminal battle. One name now forgotten is Paul Robsky, a foot soldier for the law, whose tale is told in this incredible documentary style novel. From his meeting with Charles Lindbergh to his long and dangerous fight against the mob, one get a real sense of this extraordinary life. Stakeouts, chases, gun battles, betrayal, even rivalry within the Untouchables - it's all here. Highly recommended.

Law and Market Economy : Reinterpreting the Values of Law and Economics
Published in Hardcover by Cambridge University Press (October, 2000)
Author: Robin Paul Malloy
Amazon base price: $65.00
Average review score:

Solving modern legal issues must include morals and ethics
Malloy's "Law and Market Economy: Reinterpreting the Values of Law and Economics," brings law and economic legal scholarship further into postmodernism. Rejecting the pragmatic empiricism characteristic of Posner and post-Chicago law and economic theorists, Malloy imports a moral and ethical approach based on the philosophical insights of semiotics. Referencing C.S. Peirce, Malloy sees the market and the law as processes of semiotic signification that function as interpretive frames of reference for determining meaning and value. This interpretive process offers a normative and ethical point of reference to guide market choices. By focusing on the social/market exchange process instead of the predicted outcome of transactions, law and market theory strives for a decentralized and inclusive process of exchange. Malloy's book is a recommended read for all uncomfortable with the static assumptions that currently define law and economic scholarship.

Learning to Teach in Higher Education

Author: Paul Ramsden
Amazon base price: $31.95
Average review score:

Excellent for teachers
The book contains a number of points to improve the quality of teaching. It is specifically useful for the PhD students who assist in teaching and the teachers at universities who have 1-3 years experiences in teaching. If the book was written more concisely, it could have got the highest rank in my view.

Legacy of Honor: President Grover Cleveland and Son Francis
Published in Hardcover by Naomi Getsoyan Topalian {Baikar} (December, 1995)
Authors: Naomi G. Topalian, Barbara Merguerian, Paul G. Topalian, and Naomi Getsoyan Topalian
Amazon base price: $29.95
Average review score:

Previously Unpublished Documents Used in Topalian's Book
Grover Cleveland's wife's dairies, ledgers and letters were loaned to the author for the writing of this book which sheds new light on the more intimate side of the Clevelands as a couple.
The book provides a biography of Cleveland's life and political career along with quite a bit about his youngest son, Francis Grover Cleveland.
The main drawback to the book is that there are no footnotes or indexes, making it much less useful for historians.
Nonetheless, historians and history fans should enjoy the rare entries from PRIMARY SOURCES revealing the thoughts, and feelings of a 20 year old future First Lady being romanced by the President of the United States. I particularly enjoyed excerpts from Mrs. Cleveland's ledger during Spring Break, 1885 which she and her mother spent at the white House when she was 'unsure of Cleveland's intentions' before ultimately marrying in 1886.
The author's style which includes vivid descriptions of objects, settings and individuals makes reading about Cleveland brisk, enjoyable, light fare.

Legalized Gambling: For and Against (For and Against, V. 2)

A Fair and Comprehensive Approach to a Complicated Subject
From the perspective of a city planner representing a city considering the "opportunity" of legalized gambling, I had searched for a book that comprehensively tackled the subject from both sides of the difficult issue. This is the first such book that effectively meets that goal. Heretofore, much of what I had read had a particularly biased approach that failed to fairly represent the pros and cons of legalized gambling. This book is a good start, but should be complemented with additional readings and up to date statistics and anecdotes.

A book to understand yourself
I have just "found" this book I bought 4 years ago and have enjoyed inmensely with it.

I have always thought of numerology as an interesting subject but whenever I tried to read anything on it I found it difficult to follow and/or hard to apply on myself.

This booklet lets you find a few important numbers for success in life in a few minutes and gives you the interpretation of what those numbers mean. When you're done, you want to have all the other 11 booklets for the other star signs so you can understand better the people around you!

Leonard Bernstein (20Th-Century Composers)
Published in Paperback by Phaidon Press Inc. (April, 1998)
Author: Paul Myers
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

"Leonard Bernstein" - not just a West Side Story
This brief biography of the life of Leonard Bernstein captivated me. I am very familiar with the music of Bernstein, but never got to know him the way my parent's generation did.

Bernstein was ever in the forefront of music both popular, and classical. His "Young People's Concerts" made him, and a great deal of classical music, a houshold name. I was too young to enjoy these, however they are now being re-broadcast on cable television for a whole new generation to enjoy.

Although I was captivated by the music of Bernstein long before I ever read this chronology, I understand the music of Bernstein much better now. It is interesting to look at this life from several perspectives- Bernstein as conductor, Bernstein as composer, Bernstein as father, Bernstein as husband. Most interesting is the fact that Bernstein spent his whole life in search of creating the "flagship" compostion that would secure his place in the books.

Meyers has done a fine job at relaying the "self-illustrated" life of Bernstein. It is an honest book, too, detailing Bernstein's affairs, and tantrums.

Meyers shows us an amazing composer, a respected conductor, and a very colorful reflection of 20th century America via the life of Leonard Bernstein.
