An excellent, readable reference

I have started reading a lot of historical fiction and nonfiction, and have found Haywood's Altas to be very useful. It works well as an introduction, being quite readable and succinct. In addition, it is an excellent reference to use when reading nonfiction tombs that presume we all know where all the Hittites came from, or how the Illyrians migrated to Italy. Just easily finding Zhou, or Thrace on a map has been a big help for me. A good atlas, well worth the reasonably price.

Excellent Egyptian review

Massey is always very adamant and almost ruthless in approach. That is NOT why I think this is an excellent book, though. Using his immense skill as an Egyptologist, Massey shows us incredible links to the Jesus story. Like other books I have read on paganism, the linkage is unignorable. One must read this to gain a perspective on the links between ancient religions and Christianity.

book from a great teacher

An excellent and thorough overview of Japanese religion

This is a terrific book. Primarily from a Buddhist prospective, this book provides an excellent overview of Japanese religion. It is up to date and will serve as an excellent basis for more in depth study.

A Phenominal Acheivement

I'm surprised it's taken me so long to discover Paul Johnson. This brisk review of English history is not an over-intellectualized ideological rant, or the in-depth study of a tiny sliver of the English experience, but a broad, almost Spenglerian review of the English epic, and how they got to where they are today. It is filled with judgement and wisdom. This unabridged audio book is exceptionally well read by one of my all-time favorite readers, Nadia May. You're in for a treat, whether you're an Anglophile, or want a basic review of the English experience.
