The Three Dollar Mule
My 20 yr old read this book years ago and loved it as much asmy 7 yr old liked it today! This is exciting enough to keep a newreader interested with funny incidents and some exciting happenings. It is very difficult to find something for this stage of reader who is ready for something a lot more stimulating than rhyming picture books. This is particularly true for young boys who would rather be outside playing than reading. Bulla's story has a difficult mule named Sinbad, a 12-yr old boy with a broken leg, a thoroughbred horse, and some cows and chickens thrown in for lots of interest!... The book could be read to a pre-reader, it could be read together (by switching off) with an early reader, or enjoyed by anyone up to the age of 12 when they can read alone. Approved by a homeschooling mom!

The Three Dollar Mule
My mom and I have been looking for good books to read. I had been reading the Polk Street School books by Patricia Reilly Giff and have finished them. Mom remembered Clyde Robert Bulla books and how much my older sisters enjoyed them when they were my age. I read THIS great book in one morning. It's about a boy who reluctantly buys an ornery mule for $3 after he sees a man beating him. Don, the 12 yr old boy, really wants a thoroughbred horse but his dad tells him he can't get the horse until he gets rid of Sinbad the mule. Don and his sister Jenny try to give the mule away he's so much trouble for the family, but no one in town wants the mule when they hear how much trouble Sinbad is. In the end Sinbad can stay. Read this exciting story to find out what happened to make Don's dad change his mind!

The books written by paul hauck have brough renaissance in my life. They are pearls to be read. They work brilliantly. These books not only solve emotional problems, but also shows path to find truth in life.

One of the very best books on relationships around!
If you are married or in a relationship, buy this book! Read it! Study it! Scribble it all up in the margins! Most importantly, PRACTICE the principles outlined. You will find your satisfaction with your relationship improving exponentially. Or you will non-neurotically getting out of the thing. I've used Dr. Hauck's book both personally and professionally for many years now, and have had many of the couples I see for marital and couples therapy read and use the book. Virtually all of them reported positive and constructive results from it. My only regret is that Dr. Hauck's companion paperback ³Marriage Is a Loving Business² is now out of print

A very appealing and well done little book
My sons have requested this be read to them about 10 times just today! As all of Galdone's fairy tales or nursery rhymes, this is very true to the traditional telling. The special part here is the living, clever and detailed pictures. They show such neat details as a kitchen with catnip in every form---chopped, minced, blended, etc---in a spice cabinet! The cats' expressions are priceless---you wouldn't guess cats could be so expressive.

Adorable depiction of this classic rhyme.
My 2 1/2 year old loves this book! We have taken it out of the library so many times, I have finally decided it is time to own it! I think she identifies with the sweet kittens who get into trouble but then make amends and get to eat the pie after all. Both toddlers and preschoolers will love this beautifully illustrated book.

Mr. Tom, You're Silly.
This is a retelling of the classic folktale about a young man who agrees to marry a young maiden, but only after he had found three people who are sillier than she. Thus he begins a quest that leads him to all sorts of strange places where he meets many silly people. But in the end, the suitor learns that it is he who is the silliest of them all.

The illustrations are wonderful and really make the story come alive in a real, but humorous way. I love the cat, he has some of the best lines in the whole book.

I loved this book because of the old folktale, but it's still a great story for modern kids. My younger siblings enjoyed the story, even though they called parts of it strange.

A wonderful classic folktale for children and adults
As one of the classic folktales, this story is fascinating both for children and adult. Children will find the story amusing and easy to follow. The story is a good selection of the noodleheads.

An inspiring self-help book
Thrival!: How To Have An Above Average Day Every Day is an inspiring self-help book by international speaker and consultant Paul O. Radde. Thrival! nurtures the psyche of the reader with guidelines to opening oneself to the world, accepting reality, nurturing oneself, creating and maintaining a positive attitude, and much, much more. Thrival! is highly recommended as an outgoing, "user friendly" guide packed from cover to cover with solid self-help advice for anyone seeking life's satisfactions and fulfillments regardless of their past or current circumstances.

A Conversation with a Psychologist to Help You Thrive
Paul Radde is an international keynote speaker, executive coach, and organizational consultant with a PhD in psychology and community counseling. His career includes 25 years as a practicing psychologist. Over a lifetime, Radde has studied human behavior, observing that most people simply survive, not thrive. They don't really relish life at its fullest. His practice-and this book-are a sort of a mission to help people really maximize their lives.

Radde's concern is that "Very few people seem to be living in a thriving space, or letting on that they are, if indeed they are. One percent currently derive the richest experience of, and full enjoyment from, their lives." The balance are Committed Seekers (35%), Going About Their Daily Lives (40%), or Think Thriving is a Forbidden Fruit (24%). So, the focus of his book "is on this exceptional state of well-being called thriving . . . an experience of lightness, expansiveness, and exceptional well-being: the precise exceptional moments of well-being that many people say make life worth living."

The book is organized into three parts: Defining Thriving and Thrival, Getting Started on Your Path to Thriving, and Rules & Guidelines to Access Thriving. The twenty chapters range from Life Can Be Better to Entering the Thrival Era, Opening Yourself Up, Five Things You Can Control, and Meet Your Essential Need for Balance. The third section of the book includes three rules and seven guidelines for thriving and a guide to getting it all together. A recommended reading list expands the reader's opportunity to learn.

This book is a first-person sharing and caring that opens into a sort of conversation, a discussion about the topic. Readers will nod, contemplate, and perhaps make adjustments in their lives to reach closer to Radde's thrival state. For those who would like a sort of personal experience with an introspective psychologist and close observer of life, this book will be very enjoyable. For those who don't desire to really get in touch with their inner selves, this is not the time for you to read this book.

Tibetan Thangka Painting: Methods and Materials

Must have!
This book is a must have for anyone interested in ancient Tibetan art and culture. It penetrates deep in to the tradition and lore involved in the creation of Thangkas.
It's even great on a technical level, giving us grids and proportion when painting Buddhas. The authors even explains how to create the pigments with authentic materials; as well as telling us where in the world to find them.

Indispensible resource.

The Ultimate ¿How to¿ book of Thangka Painting
This book assumes an interest in Thangka paintings. The book then proceeds to elaborate, step by step and in great detail, the process of creating one of these art works from the grinding of the color pigments to the finishing details with a brocade frame. If you are interested in this art form you couldn't ask for a better guide. Well written and thoroughly complete, it also includes drawings of any and every detail found in these paintings. If you are interested in creating a Thangka painting of your own this is the book for you.

Glorious images of landscapes and sea
Tir a' Mhurain: The Outer Hebrides Of Scotland is a new and impressive edition showcasing the 105 duotone, breathtaking, sequenced photographs by Paul Strand (1890-1976) drawn from his 1954 sojourn to the untamed island of South Uist, located near the west coast of Scotland. Glorious images of landscapes and sea, personal portraits of fishermen, and wondrous natural splendor mark this volume which is a joy to leaf through as it presents captured images and memories of a truly timeless beauty. With an informative text by Basil Davidson and featuring an excellent introduction by Catherine Duncan, Tir a' Mhurain is a much appreciated contribution to the art of photography and a highly recommended acquisition for personal, professional, and academic "History of Photography" reference collections.

Simply the greatest
Paul Strand, one of the great photographers of the world, spent three months in 1954 on the Island of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Long a fan of Scottish photographers and Scotland (he had devoted the first gallery in his 1937 "Centenary of Photography" exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art to the work of the Scottish pioneers Hill and Adamson) he excelled himself with Tir a'Mhurain (the title is Gaelic for "Land of the bent grass" one of the Gaelic names for Uist).

It is sumptuous, penetrating and great art. The book is long out of print and this re-print (not quite perfect as some of the pictures appear a little soft) is a rare opportunity to own it without forking out hundreds of pounds for an original (not that they come on the market).

If you are interested in photography, the Western Isles, Scotland or even just life and people, buy it!

Study on the life and influence of Paul
If you are looking for a definitive study of the life of Paul, this would be a good place to start. Beth Moore begins by reconstructing what Paul's early life must have been like, based on studies of Jewish life in those times. She then proceeds to the Biblical accounts in Acts which describe his conversion, and subsequent ministry. She then proceeds to the letters Paul wrote to his disciples, such as Timothy. Moore teaches us what a truly inspiring figure Paul is and applies his example of faithfulness into what God would have us aspire to today.

Awesome writer
I first became aware of the vibrancy of Beth Moore's teachings at my church's women's group. What an awesome teacher of God's word she is,and this book did not disappoint me. Beth takes a look at the life of Paul, from his birth, conversion from a zealous Jew to a humbled Christian, and the missionary journeys he undertook in Christ's name and brings them to life on these pages. She has a way of pondering aspects of the biblical narratives that really open one's eyes, and gives you a depth and breadth and taste of what life might have been like for the apostle Paul that one normally wouldn't realize, and then encourages and challenges us to live our lives for Christ in similar ways. I did not read this book in one sitting, but read a little every day, and came away delighted to have "tasted" each morsel she offered. I love Beth Moore's devotion to the Lord, and she has inspired me.
