Harry Potter, an even handed fantasy.
Beautifully created fantastic characters! Harry certainly is human except for magical powers, which he has yet to refine.
Written by a wonderful author living simply, who allowed "Harry" to speak to her over time until it became her heart's impulse to put it down on paper again and again. A well written and informative article about that creative process. There's no longer a question in my mind as to whether children should read it or not. By all means-read it, discuss it, enjoy it. The books were written for this adult too.

wonderful reminder of a gorgeous summer mountain
This book has such a wealth of material about the plants of the Colorado mountains. It's not just pictures, though the photos are excellent, and botannical basics but also explanations of where the plants' common names originated and how they have been used medicinally. Its only failing is that it doesn't cover more.

a delightful treat
Most people have heard of William Wegman and the photographs of his dogs. But they don't know that he also paints and draws in addition to making photos and videos. This book is a collection of his drawings, which are wonderful, clever, little imaginings. With the same witty humor as his photographs, Wegman has created this little treasury of intelligent drawings. I highly recommend it for any appreciator of art and/or querky fun.

A useful book to fine tune Windows 2000
It's a useful book to fine tune Windows 2000. Not like other systems, Windows put critical information in a "secret" place called "registry" & offer little information about it. So, hacking registry will be a must for you to fine tune Windows. & this book will give you great help to do so.

The weakness of this book is that most information are also available on web.

A complete knowledge of Win 95
Once again, Brian Livingston and Davis Straub have put together their complete knowledge of Windows 95, a great book. Accessible as well to those who "knows" as to those who don't know that much.

Like a novel, only nonficition
Don't be fooled into passing up this book because of its hideous bright red book jacket. It is a good book, albiet only 189 pages. Written in fisrt person, Windows on the River Neva is an incite into the thoughts of a privileged youth mixed with the reflections and opinions of his adult counterpart who has gained wisdom and maturity through his family's flight from Russia. Paul Grabbe never attemps to assert what he does not know, but he does unfortunately shift from past to present too quickly at some parts which takes away some suspense and itensity the book may have otherwise had. Nevertheless, it is worth reading and is filled with passages describing a mischievous, exuberant child caught up in life's splendor until swept away from his country by revolution. I give this book 4 stars instead of five because I feel some chapters were extraordinarily, awkwardly short.

This is truly a spectacular book that I use frequently for reference. Although there are some minor historical errors within the book this does not take away from the importance this book carries as it portrays many players that you would not be able to read about otherwise.

Marvelous!
Largely unknown outside of his native Brazil where he is nothing short of a national icon, Alberto Santos-Dumont was a pioneer in both lighter and heavier than air flight. Paul Hoffman tells Santos-Dumont's story from his earliest days as a child experimenting with paper balloons to his final sad days, broken by the fact that the world credited the Wright Brothers with the first flight of a plane and the use of that invention in war. A lot of research clearly went into Wings of Madness and Hoffman has done a marvelous job of reporting on a nearly forgotten chapter and pioneer of aviation history.

Good wireless programing book; ok treatment of other topics
"Wireless Internet & Mobile Business How to Program" contains a good discussion of the various elements of programming for wireless devices. The reader will come away from the programming chapters with a solid understanding of how to implement simple structures. The chapter that introduces algorithms is clear and concise; the chapter that introduces control structures is easy to understand (if somewhat odd in its ordering). The chapter that introduces Object Oriented Programming provides a clear introduction to objects. This approach, using several real-world examples, is a good way to orient the non OO-minded to the use of objects. It covers the different aspects of objects in the abstract well. However, it could use a clearer explanation of why developers should use objects instead of the regular, top-down structured programming they've (possibly just) learned. For those new to programming, this is essential.

The book is not really just a "How to Program" manual, as are some of Deitel & Deitel's other similarly named texts. (Their excellent C++ and Java books come to mind.) Some of the chapters, like the one on employment opportunities, are in danger of becoming obsolete quickly. However, overall this is a solid text with good treatment of wireless programming and other loosely related topics.
