Practical Advice for cruising
Boats are complex, cruising is fun, Paul & Sheryl show how everyone can get past the complexities and into the fun of it. I found this book valuable because it addresses how to make things simple. A cruising sailboat has many confusing systems that seem too difficult to understand. This book is like having a helpful friend there lending encouragment. This may not be the most complete and comprehensive of guides but it traveled with us on a five year voyage. Shelf space it tight on a boat and there was space for this book.
Good advice from people living the sailing life
Paul and Sheryl Shard built their own boat and sailed it to the Bahamas. That was the original plan, and then they kept on going! They sailed to Europe and back to Toronto via Brazil, and the Caribbean.
They have been cruising for 10 years now, and are living the dream of many. Rather than a week here and there, or even a year sabbatical, they manage to cruise about six months a year, writing, and filming for their TV show.
This book has been updated and reflects the kind of knowledge that is only gained but doing again and again. They have the right attitude and obviously have found something that works. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to turn their dreaming into reality.

The Apostle for Christ
Saint Margaret Mary... an apostle for Christ, a loving and obedient nun, one who would do anything for Christ and Our Blessed Mother, one who recognized the power of love and suffering for Christ... yes, this is who St. Margaret Mary is.
And Mary Fabyan Windeatt wrote the book, Saint Margaret Mary and the Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, in such a way that it is very hard to describe. The story started out with Margaret, ill in bed, at the age of 13. Mary Wineatt tells how Margaret and her mother promised to Mary, Our Blessed Mother, that if Margaret is cured of her illness she will become a religious. Their prayers were answerd... the Blessed Mother cured Margaret!
It took a long time until finally Margaret could visit the Visitation nuns to become a religious. When she becomes a Visitation nun at the convent she begins to have visions of Christ's suffering. Most of the nuns don't believe her at first. Our Lord revealed twelve promises to Margaret and she saw the Sacred Heart of Jesus two times.
Our Lord tells Margaret of a person who is going to come and help her spread the word. This person was Father de la Colombiere. He was a very well known and educated priest. He helps Margaret in a lot of ways until he dies at the age of 41.
Before Margaret dies she was perfectly healthy but in a few hours she dies at the age of 43.
I like this book so much because the way the author writes it. It sounds like a story instead of facts just put together. This book is beautifully written. And I especially liked how Margaret seems so loving and kind to everyone.

Joy and Freedom
In reading the section of Dr. Thigpen's book on scrupulosity, I felt confirmed in what God was already speaking to my heart on this subject matter. Paul Thigpen's writings clearly illustrate that he has spent time near the heart of Jesus.
A little book, full of wisdom
As one who often needs to "make peace" with something or another, I found this book a marvelous compilation of advice--the excerpts from the saints' writings highlight the need to make peace, and suggest how to go about it. Dr. Thigpen has pulled together, in one handy reference, a treasure-trove of wisdom. Highly recommended for anyone struggling with internal obstacles that cause separation from God.

Beautiful book
This is an amazing book. I felt sanctified every time I read in it. Everyone should read it. After all, the author is a martyr! It is a book written by a martyr about his spiritual father. Peace, love and joy flow into your heart with every word of this book.
A modern portrait of sanctity
There is no better book you could read to give you a heart-sense of Orthodox Christian sanctity. And the book is NOT out of print; Amazon's information is outdated. It was reprinted in 1999, so go ahead and order it!

She's Not Real!!!
For anyone stumbling upon this book by accident, I feel it's my duty to point out that Sarah Binks is a fictional character. This mock biography is satire, and pretty good satire at that--for example, Binks' untimely death occurs when she bites a horse thermometer in half and succumbs to mercury poisoning. The horse thermometer was awarded to her as a prize for one of her spectacularly bad poems. The entire book is a parody of rural life in Canada.
The Life and Times of a Little-Known Poetic Genius
Paul Hiebert is best known as a writer of light humour. As such, his suitability as a biographer of a brilliant poet could be questioned. Readers may be reassured that the treatment given Ms. Binks' life and works is serious indeed, as it should be. Possibly the best feature of this biography is that the poems of the 'Sweet Songstress of Saskatchewan' are set in the context of each crucial phase of her career: her upbringing, adolescence, young womanhood, and maturity. This context is critical for a deeper understanding of her work. For example, the knowledge that 'Dog's Heaven' was written shortly after the tragic death of her canine companion adds a rich poigniance that could not be gained from the reading of this brilliant poem in a mere anthology. This biography is a piece of 'Canadiana' (hateful term!) to the extent that Ralph Ellison's 'Invisible Man' is merely a statement of mid-twentieth century Black culture. Sarah Binks, like Ellison, speaks for all humanity. Hiebert's biography brings her to life as a vibrant and feeling woman.

A Compelling, Important First Novel
After the book's first dramatic event, the pace slowed down more than I would have liked. But keep reading, because as the events on Bidong begin to compress and the characters' psyches are put to the test, the narrative is unstoppable and the payoff is well worth all of the novel's pages. The writing is terse and beautiful, and the story Eggers has to tell is a crucial testament to world events that we still try to shuffle under the carpet. I can't compare this to other novels because it is truly unlike anything I've read before. This is a brilliant, compelling first novel that makes me anticipate Eggers' next effort.
Remarkable Debut Novel from a Brilliantly Talented Artist
Egger's novel is a superb piece of writing; bleak, humorous, arresting, and engaging all at once. The characters are real and vivid; the prose style carries the reader along breathlessly until the last page. This is a remarkable book, both as a human document, and also as a brilliant, apocalyptic novel that stands with such works as Catch 22 and The Naked and The Dead.

Very practical and useful book
As another reviewer has mentioned, the book is very practical. It treats almost all the topics you will sometime encounter in your scientific/research career, if you work on Unix systems. I could have saved a lot of time looking for freeware had I first looked in this book. The book covers the use of gnuplot, the free plotting program, and also mentions many very useful utilities. Personally, I downloaded xmgrace, a superb graphing free software. Customizing xterm windows and the motif window manager are some of the other things I found interesting. Now, my workstation menu features everything I will use in the course of the day. (Much like windows 95, only more powerful). It took me two years to learn through trial what is here!
It's a very good dollars
It's a wonderful book for both beginner and advanced users of UNIX system. Its comprehensive contents help me learn every aspects of UNIX needed in scientific field. I learned many new things by reading this book. I am very exciting.

Wonderful Illustrations, Great Advice
Chef Grappe in this astounding book gives readers a wealth of information on how to prepare any type of seafood you can dream up. The book provides great recipies with easy, step-by-step instructions. The book is worth having for the photos and illustrations alone. You'll never have to look at another fish again and wonder, "What IS that?" The book also includes a very helpful listing of complementary wines and a glossary of culinary terms. Highly recommended!
Wow.
This has excellent color illustrations of each fish and/or sea"food" it lists along with characteristics, where it's from, latin name, and recipes for each. Consider this a manual on fish! I'm impressed every time I browse through it. Definitely a keeper, now to find some fresh seafood!
