Great music, not just for kids
This music is fabulous. I have 6 children and they all love this cassette (mom and dad too). A few of the songs are familiar, but many are less common; all, though, have simple, catchy tunes and are great fun to sing along with. Some of the songs have rather an early music/madrigal quality to them, the flavor of a storyteller. I would categorize this music as children's/folk, good musicality and off-the-beaten (children's-music) path.

Treasure trove for musical PPM fans !
This PPM Deluxe Anthology contains around 80 songs, many of which are also in the PPM Song Book with its 32 song titles. In fact, in the latter there are only about 5-6 additional songs e.g. don't think twice its alright, when the ship comes in, very last day, the times they are a changing, three ravens.

Many lesser known titles can be found here and it must be a joy to play these song for the genuine PPM folknik!

Around The Campfire
This is a great songbook for PPM fans who play beginner/intermediate guitar. The arrangements are easy to follow (not a lot of barre chords) and not a lot of Eb--Bb7 stuff. There's even some tablature to songs like Blowin' In the Wind. The book has the same songs as the CD set with the same name. I really enjoy this book. Mike

an exciting book for kids who love animals
This is the tenth book I've read in the Animal Ark Pets series. So far I've liked them all. They're all about Mandy Hope, her friends, and different animals. Mandy's parents are vets so she knows every animal in the neighborhood. Pets' Party is about a kid named Max and his dog Sandy. They come to stay with Max's grandma in Welford, England where Mandy lives. Max's grandma hates animals and wants to send Sandy to the kennel. Soon after they get to Welford, Sandy finds a puppy under some briars and Max names it Holly. Holly might get sent to the ASPCA shelter. Later in the story when Max, Mandy and her friend James are sledding, Sandy gets hit onto the ice on a pond and almost drowns. I was surprised by the ending of this story. If you want to know what happens to Sandy and Holly, read this book!

The Phantom Coach: Collected Ghost Stories
Published in Hardcover by Ash-Tree Press (04 October, 1999)
Authors: Amelia B. Edwards, Richard Dalby, and Paul Lowe
Amazon base price: $42.50
Average review score:

A superb anthology of Victorian-era ghost stories.
Amelia Edwards' The Phantom Coach (1-899562-82-6) is edited by Richard Dalby and gathers her best Victorian-era ghost stories under one cover. This satisfying collection proves the ghost story can have many themes and settings and still prove refreshingly different from tale to tale. This is the first to gather all her supernatural works under one cover.

As real as it gets
PHANTOM LEADER is the third in Berent's five book saga of fighting men in Vietnam. Berent's series gets better as this author gains experience and insight into the lives of his characters. This book is probably the first one in the series I would consider a "must read". The reason is the story of Major Algeron "Flak" Apple who is shot down in his F-4 fighter early in the book and is captured by the North Vietnamese. His story gives the reader a shocking look at life as a prisoner of war inside the Hao Lo prison, known more commonly as the "Hanoi Hilton". His story continues through the final two volumes. Berent agonizing portrayal of Apple's life of misery and torture inside the prison is dramatic and moving. The story also contains the continuing story of Court Bannister, an Air Force pilot that I believe Berent uses to tell his own story. Wolf Lochert also continues his battle as a US Army Special Forces Lt. Colonel. Berent writes with a similar style to Tom Clancy. This book is really five seperate stories that all intersect at one time or another. Berent's books are much easier to read and have more action than technical detail. The reader does, however, recieve enough explanation of military terms and acronyms to understand the sometimes complex language used by military persons. This books is a surperb action novel, but what makes it great is the amazing and horrifying look inside a prison camp of North Vietnam.

Philip Neri : the fire of joy
Published in Unknown Binding by T&T Clark ()

One of the best biographies of St. Philip Neri avaliable.
This excellent biography of St. Philip Neri presents a complete portrait of the great 16th century "Apostle of Rome", St. Philip Neri. Rather than stressing the excessive asceticism of the time, St. Philip emphasised the great love and mercy of God, thus bringing back many people to the practise of the faith and and inspiring many to lead holy lives.

It presents the reader with a picture of St. Philip, a man both on fire for the Lord and a saint with an immense sense of humour. This is one of the best biographies of St. Philip that I've found and I reccommend it highly.

Philosophy and Revelation: A Contribution to the Debate on Reason and Faith (Ashgate Translations in Philosophy and Theology)
Published in Paperback by Ashgate Publishing Company (December, 2001)
Author: Vittorio Possenti
Amazon base price: $24.95
Used price: $8.95
Average review score:

A Classic
This is a simple and bold restatement of the relationship between faith and reason. The main enemy of this book and rightly so is Heidegger. And here Possenti is at his best. He makes mincemeat out of Heidegger.

This book should be distributed by bishops throughout North America and should be memorized by seminary students. It is simply that good.

That this book was not translated and published by a Catholic Press is a scandal. Maybe they will take their cue from this book and give us more works by Possenti. And at the same time they should undertake the translation of the works of Del Noce and Fabro, two italian giants who are virtually unknown here in North America. And from France, Tresmontant and Thibon.

Catholics need to know what their faith is about. They need to be able to protect themselves from Heideggerian Catholics and aging brats like Gary Wills and Hans Kung.

Wonderful Sartrean examinations and crituques
This volume contains exceptional philosophical articles on the philosophy of Sartre. It covers every and all aspect of his life and thoughts. The critiques pull no punches and omit nothing. This work takes a hard look at the soundness of Sartre's philosophy. To find out if they hold up, read this volume. p.s. The interview with Sartre durring his later years is worth the price of the book alone. If you like Sartre, you will love this book.
