Textiles of the ancient Paracas Peoples of Peru
I got this book because I was researching some non-textile paracas ritual items. I found that 98% of this book details the beautiful and complex textiles of the Paracas. It had little of what I actually wanted, but it does give an excellent background to surviving Paracas textile (and textile related) artifacts.

It filled in background blanks for me and this book would be excellent for anybody who is researching, or who wants to know more about these textiles. In parts it is quite technical and detailed. There is a colour section illustrating various textiles in the centre of the book, but the emphasis in on scholary interpretation and not light reading.

Most celebrities have to wait until the end of their careers to publish their autobiographies. In this book edited by Michael Szenberg, twenty economists in mid-career bring together personal accounts of their work and lives. The result is a rich set of biographies, addressing issues such as the effects of politics on work and vice versa, family life, creativity in and inspired by the workplace, the study of law and economics, and the conducting of research, and the role of women in this male-dominated field. I think Passion and Craft presents a delightful glance into the minds and lives of some of the most interesting economists of our time. I believe it will be exciting reading for economists as well as all other social scientists, and students considering a career in economics.

What a Cheesey Book
This book is an amazing read and it kept me alive for hours at a time. The author pours herself into the recipes like a pro. I really like all the new ways i can prepare cheese dishs and good hints and helpful facts. I now can come home after a hard days work and enjoy a wonderfully cheesey meal. I really like this book and i have learned many new cheese recipes, new types of cheese and cool ways to eat cheese, including from your nose. I really like cheese strings but my favorite kind is Tibet cheese.

Learn about the History that lives in your own backyard
I got interested in the Patapsco River when I went to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. I knew about the general history of the B & O railroad in the Patapsco Valley, but this book opened up an entire new window on the history of the Patapsco Valley. Travers' prose makes the history of the Patapsco Valley easily accessible to everyone and the geographic organization of his book makes it useful as a guidebook too.

Complete description of nervous system tumors
This book covers the pathology and genetics of nervous system tumors in a very clear and organized manner. It is a good reference book both for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis of different NS neoplasms as well as having a concise description of grading, name synonyms, histopathology and clinical signs. Recommended

Fast Moving Dunes
Patterns in the Sand is a racy introduction to a wide cross section of the ideas which comprise "Complexity Theory". Barely a stone in this ecclectic intellectual landscape is left unturned with examples drawn from mathematics, computation, genetics, ecology, and social dynamics to focus the reader on the relevance of systems approaches of understanding complex behaviour, and how even very simple everyday phenomena are rich with complex detail.

The book is generally well written, with only the occaisional paragraph leaving the reader begging for relevance; though the pace of ideas is frenetic, sometimes moving through an entire chapter without two paragraphs on the same topic. The style is readily accessible but sufferes somewhat through lack of conclusive discussion. One gets the impression that the impact of the book could be improved by a more detailed development.

Still, there is a wealth of material here, and it serves as an excellent introduction to the trandisciplinary nature of complexity theory and it's applications. I read the book in conjunction with a number of other, less popularly oriented works and found this combination brought the ideas in "Patterns..." to the fore. The strength of the book I felt was in sketching the relationships between a large number of ideas rather than in exploring any of the ideas per se.

If you are looking for a mathematical treatment, or an in-depth discussion on the foundations of complexity, I'd recommend you shop elsewhere. But if you are looking for an intellectual brainstorm to cross-fertilise your own ideas on complexity, this may be the book for you.

A great look at St. Paul the Apostle
First off, this commentary by Fitzmyer can be hard to read. Stick with it though and it will pay off. His writing style can be dense, as it is crammed with footnotes and is rambling. Once you get used to his style, you notice how great his organization and ideas are. Fitzmyer really puts forth some great insights, and anyone who has read Paul will find themselves nodding their heads as they go through the book. I had to read this for a class on Paul, and I'm glad I did.

A discovery of the origins of Paul Bunyan-based on reality!
A wonderful history of lumbering and tree fellers in the 1800's. Particularly interesting account of a man named Joe Fournier who author claims; (and presents a valid case) was the lumberjack who set the poems and stories in motion that ended in the now legend of Paul Bunyan.
