This study technique works well for me.
At first you have to hide the fact that at, age 53, you are using a coloring book! Nevertheless I have stuck with it through a number of pages and have found out that my retention and ability to recall through visualizing the diagrams increases many fold versus the read and think method. When I revisit the pages to study the topic it comes back much easier. The book seems to be a good balance between the written text/descriptions and the illustrations. It takes a fairly big time commitment and at times you ask yourself, "Is this the best use of my study time?". Well after a few days the accuracy of my retention answered that question with a huge YES. It is much more technical than how one might visualize as 'coloring book'. I really do enjoy it and am learning the topics.

Excellent for older students including college age
This is an incredibly detailed and thorough examination of the anatomy and physiology of plants. A great way to for visual learners to supplement their learning experience. I found it extremely helpful in my college Introductory Botany course.

This book is interesting and fun!
I wanted to know more about plants and how to look at plants. How do you start without to find out when you do not really want to commit time to doing a college course or reading technical books? I am more than pleased to find a book that is so complete and is written for adults. Can't belive how much fun I'm having with it. Thanks, Authors!

Learn about the bottlenose dolphin.
Unlike so many other books about dolphins this book focuses only on the bottlenose dolphin. It gives the reader a basic idea of the life of this species and includes a lot of interesting facts about them. The authors are not writing down second hand info but are both researching these dolphins off the coast of Scottland. Instead of having school book like anatomical drawings and graphs this book remids me more like talking to a dolphin expert while going on a boat watching them in the sea.

I saw this book at a friend and liked the photos so much that I knew I needed it for my collection, too. Being a wildlife photographer (with a special focus on dolphins) I always enjoy looking at as good photos of dolphins as found in this book. This book makes an excelent gift for any dolphin fan.

Publisher Synopsis
One look at researcher Paul Thompson's book and it's easy to see why bottlenose dolphins continue to be the world's favorite aquarium animal. Thompson's incredible knowledge coupled with lively photographs of bottlenose dolphins effortlessly flying from the ocean in unison and weaving in the depths of the azure sea make for a treasured book. He explores the world of these fascinating creatures from physical to sociological structures. Thompson writes of the dolphin family structure; feeding habits; and relationships with humans and whales, dolphins and porpoises.

Beautifully Photographed!
Informative and beautifully photographed! Recommended for those seeking to view dolphin photos and covers the areas from birth, conservation and politics to general statistics. Enjoy it!

Too bad this is out of print...
This is a wonderful book of first-hand accounts and analysis of infomation regarding Braddock's defeat on the Monongahela in 1755. On the dust jacket, written by a fellow named R. Alberts, one may read the following, "An original and important work. The scholarship is of a high order, and the writing has both clarity and style. It is the best analysis yet of the source material on Braddock's defeat. It gathers together for the first time all the known eyewitness accounts of the Defeat, including several that were previously unpublished or untranslated." I couldn't have said it better myself. If one is looking for a narrative of the battle, a book such as "Guns at the Forks," by Walter O'Meara would be better, but if one is looking for original source material from which other stories and narratives were written, then this is the book to own. This book is excellent. In the first half of the book, the author tells the story of Braddock's defeat, giving an analysis of the source material used for the information. Afterwards there is a short section concerning the numerous books written this episode of history. The rest of the book consists of original source material and the authors comments on them as to their reliability. For example, when commenting on an officers report to his superiors, the author points out that the report may be slanted to make the writer appear "better" in the eyes of his superior officer. There are several French accounts included also, which I have never seen anywhere else (well, I might have, but this is the first time I could read them as the other accounts I have seen are still in the original French, and I can't read French--here, the author translates them, which is obviously a great deal of help to those of us who can't read French!).
The sources Kopperman uses are extensive, and his comments are well thought out, informative and just just plain well written. This is a "must have" book for anyone interested in this episode from history. For what this book advertises intself to be, it is excellent in every regard. (And unlike another reviewer, I am not related to the author in any way!)

Scholarly Research Disproves the Myths
I read this book some time ago and found it to be a tremendously helpful work in revealing a truer understanding of a hugely misunderstood and misrepresented historical figure and the events surrounding his tragic battle. As one who grew up in the region where the events happened, and having done some independant research and writing on the topic, I can attest that most of the conventional wisdom about Edward Braddock and the Battle of the Monongahela is so distorted that almost no one relates the true facts anymore (if they ever did).

Kopperman dug deeply into source documents, with particular focus on contemporaneous accounts of those who were present. The author states that he was not out to necessarily rehabilitate Braddock's reputation, nor to vilify it either, but to look through the wall of legend and onto what really occurred with Braddock's expedition to Fort DuQuesne and why. By examining the best surviving evidence and contemporary documentation, including an examination of the motives behind who wrote what, a better and objective understanding can be gained.

If you must read just one book on this topic, this would be the one to get.

Great book
This is a very interesting and helpful book about Braddock. All of his books are very helpful for students. And I'm not just saying this because I'm his daughter!

Find this book!
This is the absolute best book for a new (and even a seasoned) manager. It is no nonsense and helpful, without being wordy and boring. The bullet point format makes learning and using new skills easy. The chapters are a great reference for every day management issues ranging from hiring to smoking. It is out of print, but worth your time if you can find this book!

Great book
Its like crib notes for managers. I like to look it over immediately before going into a potentially difficult situation. The buzzword section is out of date.

fast useful information
great bathroom reading - all chapters read in less than two minutes and were targeted - no wasted words, just lots of practical information

If I Had To Choose One Book. . .
. . . to take to a desert island, this would be the one. Bride starts the saga of the Christopher family and if you like adventure, espionage AND a story of faithful love rewarded, this book will surprise and please you on every page. You will be stunned by the sheer beauty and power of the writing and when you turn the last page, you will wish there was that much more.

a wonderful book
McCarry was able to bring actual events of late 17th century English and American history to vivid life and his research into the time period is thorough. For example, I believe that he used actual events like the cold and snowy February 1690 night attack by French and Indians on present day Schenectady and the extraordinary escape of Mrs Hannah Dustin from her Abenaki captors, for the fictional attack on Alamoth and the manner of Rose Barebones escape from the Abenakis. His dreamy writing style lends itself to the way Fanny, his main character, sleep-walks through life, as if she and the virgin forests of America are waiting to be awoken to reality. This book is something which one seldom sees on the shelves of bookstores these days: it is exciting, thrilling, romantic in the grand manner of true romance (the worth of true patient love), as well as giving the average reader a taste of what life in America once was, a land filled with enormous trees, wild strawberries so abundant that walking through them was like walking through strawberry preserves, filled with danger and Indians who lived by a code of morals that only the French tried to understand. I highly recommend this book!

Bride of the Wilderness - Charles McCarry
Excellent story - details of 17/18th century life in England and the American Northeast paint a vivid picture.

The Bride Thief will Steal Your Heart
This follows the story of another Baldwin brother from the Bride's Portion" and "The Heiress Bride" only this is Justin's story. He was always sombre and so very serious growing up it was a delight to see him become so assertive and steal away Isabelle Gaillard after he had fell under her spell when courting her cousin Evelyn.

Justin was not stupid and only courted Evelyn whom he had seen was manipulative because it was the only way he could keep seeing Isabelle. He stole her away and brought her to his small holding Talwar.

Isabelle, had fallen in love with Justin the moment she had laid her eyes on him. He was different than most of the men courting her beautiful cousin but she had never hoped that he would even notice her. Her life was something akin to a Cinderella - the poor relation kept only to serve her relations.

The story was superb, as I've found all of Ms. Pauls bride books to be. Each book stands on its own, and this one does splendidly. Both Isabelle and Justin had only to believe in their good fortune in believing in each other. This book had all the elements one comes to expect from Ms. Paul - couldn't put it down. Find it at all costs and enjoy the superb work of this author.

Love and Jealousy
The Bride Thief is a story of love and jealousy. It shows the power of true love and the evils of jealousy. Isabelle can't believe Justin would want her as his wife instead of the rich and beautiful Evelyn, but he does. She is kidnapped and taken to Talwar with him where everything is fine until Evelyn shows up. Her extreme jealousy of Isabelle and wanting of Justin wreak havoc on Talwar.

This book has some slow parts in it but I loved it anyway. Especially when Evelyn shows up at Talwar claiming to be a changed woman. The love between Justin and Isabelle was written well. Their love story was a make-you-feel-good story. The character of Evelyn was written well also. The things she did were outrageous. I think the author did an excellent job of bringing to life on the pages the jealousy and evilness of Evelyn.

This is a must-read for anyone who loves historical fiction, a love story, or a villianess.

The Bride Thief
Like in the First two Baldwin books, the bride is kidnapped again. This one is Isobella Gillard, and the youngest Baldwin, Justin. Isobella finds this is not funny and that anyone would want her. But Justin does. The only problem is selfed-center cousin, and her mean father want to keep Isobella's skills for them self. It is a wonderful addition to the Bride Triology.

Outstanding!
Every military officer should read this book. He details how other officers and enlisted acted as POWs...very revealing. He stood by the values of the Army under extreme personal hardship showing it can be done!

Excellent revealing prisoner of war autobiographical account
If you want to get a good idea of what it's like to be on Corregidor and have the Japanese strafe and bomb and attack you, Bunker's account is excellent. It is down to earth and very revealing in day to day activity in trying to copy with a very frustrating situation.....

Great!!!!
Colonel Bunker tried to tell it all....The Fall of Corregidor, as told by the then Seaward Defense Commander of the Harbor Defenses of Manila and Subic Bays. Although from a personal standpoint, there were operational activities cited in his diary such as the "Geary Shoot to Bataan", "Ballistic testing of Sea Rifles and ammunition", "Counter Battery Operations vs the Japanese", to name a few.....The later half of the book describes Colonel Bunker's life as a POW..Again the book has it's share of wrong dates (credit the editor of the diary, Barlow) for stating that Battery Geary blew up on the 18th of April. Correction: it was May 2, '42. I'm sorry that I had to point this out because I do my "homework" when it comes to Corregidor, but nevertheless, it's still a great book...

I give this book a 9
What a lot of people don`t know is that Paul Bunyan had a wife and two kids .His wife`s name is Carrie and their kids are Little Jean, the boy, and Tenny, the girl. The Bunyans have lots of adventures . They make a lot of landmarks along the way like the Big Sur and the Rocky Mountains. I love the book. I like the book because they keep on making landmarks. I also like how the pictures show proportion.

One of my Favorite Books
I think that is was a really good book and if you would like to get it, you should. Because if you have read Paul Bunyan before, then this would make it very interesting and fun to read

And you thought you knew the whole tall tale?!
It's a short book...great to read to kids.

Just when you thought you'd heard it all about Paul Bunyan you find out about the accomplishments of his wife and children. For example: you've heard of Mammoth cave? Well.......... And what about when the kids are grown and Paul can retire??

And please. Don't look at the last page until you've read the whole book especially if you're interested in astronomy.

Finally a handy handbook
The first part of this book, which discusses what a string is, storage, and basic methods is primarily geared towards beginners. Veterans should be able to skim through the chapters. Both should take a look at the performance metrics run by the authors, as they offer valuable insight into how strings are manipulated.

The chapter on Internationalization is not only great for anyone writing global applications but also those just looking to offer more configurability to their applications.

The price of this book is worth the 3 chapters on Regular Expressions. The authors introduce each concept with an example, building up to complete examples such as Analyzing an SMTP Log File.

The Only Book that you want to read it on text's C#
I want to thank every author who working on the C# handbooks , Even the C#'s Guru programmers need this book , Whether you are a beginner or a pro you will need a complete understanding of the text manipulation in C#, and this is only in this book, I'm so sad that there's no more handbooks on C# like VB.NET :-(, The books cover all the aspects of text from A-Z (and that what i like in the book).
Thanks for all the authors
A Beginner

A Very Good Book!
For a book of just over 300 pages, this wrox book surely packs a punch! Firstly U'r biceps don't ripple when U carry it around and U'r pecs don't enlarge when U lie down to read it!

Apart from the physical beauties of the book, it also contains a lot inside. I must admit, being a slightly above average developer, I was rather sceptical about the benefits of reading it but the reviews of the VB.NET version of the book got good reviews so I gave it a try.

... How misplaced my initial scepticism was! Reading the book showed me how ignorant I was about strings; the way they're created, handled, manipulated and destroyed! This book shows that strings are more than "Anything between 2 quotes" and shows how to optimise U'r creation and manipulation of them.

The greatest asset in this book is the information on Regular Expressions. This "Rocket-science-like" topic was reduced to bed time reading ... and the following morning, the knowledge gained the night before didn't "leak" from my head! The regular expression chapters "Eased" the concepts behind the subject into my head and the last chapter on regular expression chapters showed how the mind of a Regular Expression 'Guru' works. It's not the normal "Cook-Book" that pastes preformed expressions for common problems but a step by step analysis of the "thought process" that goes into building complex regular expressions ... "it doesn't give you a fish ... but it teaches you how to catch a fish U'rself"

Cadborosaurus: Survivor from the Deep
This is the only book you will ever need for your research into the Cadborosaurus mystery. Almost every known fact on Cadborosaurus is presented here with a great selection of photos, maps and drawings. This is the #1 and only book dedicated solely to the search for this illusive creature.

Cadborosaurus:Survivor from the Deep
I have read countless books on the subject of unknown lake and sea creatures, Paul Leblond's book is one of the best! This family of creatures have been around a lot longer then we have been and hopefully will survive with the ever increasing number of people looking for them. The book is packed full of data. It's a book worth adding to anyone's collection that isinterested in the subject.

Strong evidence for the existence of sea serpents.
Cadborosaurus: Survivor From the Deep is a chronicle of the search for evidence that sea serpents exist off the coast of British Columbia, Canada and the adjacent coastal waters of the several American states. The title is based on the creature of the same name which has been seen for more than a century by many reliable and upstanding witnesses.

Dr. Paul Leblond, former head of the Dept. of Oceanography at the University of British Columbia and chairman of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club, and his collaborator Dr. Ed Bousfield, retired research consultant at The Royal British Columbia Museum are both eminent scientists who have taken a professional approach toward solving the enigma of whether the Cadborosaurus exists.

They have compiled numerous eyewitness reports and other data and carefully analysed each piece of information. The conclusion is the sea serpent is a reality.

In the pages of this worthwile tome are several photographs and diagrams of actual specimens of sea serpents which have been found over the years. Of particular interest is the Cadborosaurus of Naden Harbour, Queen Charlotte Islands, British Columbia. This specimen was retrieved from the stomach of a whale and photographed. It was in exquisite condition and is proof that sea serpents were more than myths. Leblond and Bousfield recount how they found one of the witnesses to this event and his account of the proceedings is fascinating reading.

The book is written in a breezy easy to comprehend style even though it is primarily a scholarly and well-researched scientific volume.

Cryptozoology enthusiasts will find this book very helpful in understanding the life and habitat of Canada's greatest sea serpent.
