New Ways in Teaching Vocabulary
This is a great collection of a lot of new ways in teaching vocabulary. Many of the activities are really good and easy to use in ESL or EFL classroom. However, there are some activities which don't follow recent studies and theories in vocabulary acquisition and teaching. You need to read each activity carefully so that you can adjust it to your own students. That way, you can overcome some of the shortcomings that some of the activities have. I'll highly recommend to read Paul Nation's "Teaching and Learning Vocabulary"(Newbury House), too.

Informative, but author wears heart on sleeve
This is a fascinating look at papal elections. Hebblewaithe regales us with wonderful historical and behind-the-scenes details which alone make the book worthwhile. His descriptions of the likely candidates, though likely to be outdated when the actual event arrives, are informative. Hebblewaithe's own agenda tends to permeate the book; he seems intent to replace the "intricate and highly politicized process" with an intriccate and highly politicized process of his own, to ensure the election of what he hopes will be a more "liberal" Pope. Fortunately, this partisanship doesn't spoil an otherwise engaging work.

Very Amusing
I love Paul Levine's books, especially this one and his first novel. Witty, opinionated in a funny yet relevant way, and has a good plot too! Try this book!

Ninth Grade Outcast's Outlook
I was a little skeptical at first of this book. It starts out really slowly, and is a little boring at first. However, if you've ever been an outcast, you can really sympathize with the girl in the book. Give it a little time, read a few chapters and you are guranteed to fall in love.

Even Wild Women Get the Blues...
You MUST read this book! Paul Doyle has written a fantastic book filled with adventure, humor and wit. He is very funny as he pokes fun at the dogma of political, spiritual and environmental correctness while he effectively underlines the values that dogma intended to support. He clearly loves the Pacific Northwest rainforest he describes in fine detail. No matter if you have been there or not you will see it in it's glory and feel the love and respect he has for the natural world. I loved Nioka. I wanted to be Nioka. And I must admit, I have always hoped that Bigfoot really exists and continues to elude capture.

very good
This book is a must for any N&W/NS fan! It has many good photos of many rare diesels, including Alcos and U-Boats. Shows several post-merger shots of units, and shows all the different schemes that N&W went through. It is definately worth the money.

Fascinating information on ecology in the Northwest
This book is an interesting collection of papers on what the book title calls "environmental history", but what might be better characterized as human-environment interactions, human-ecology, or human-landuse, since that is what most of the essays focus upon. This is a good book for anyone interested in the history of landuse and environmental change in the Northwest.

The readings are aimed at a scholarly audience, so the tempo, tone, and diction are more like "academic" writing and less like "popular" writing. In other words: this book is not always a fast and easy read (this is why I didn't give it 5 stars). Another small criticism: due to the format of the endnotes, I sometimes found it difficult to track down the original references mentioned in the text.

All in all -- important information and a useful book, definitely of regional interest.

Excellent guide to the winery's offerings
After visiting many of the wineries described within the book I found the content to be very much in line with my observations. Not an exact match (we agreed on about 3/4ths of them), though differences could be explained by palate.

Even though it is difficult to remain current, I think the authors did a very good job. The only item I found lacking is a general guide to vintages, ala the tearout from some wine magazines. For example, which wines are generally best for a particular year and when it is expected to reach its peak. One specifically for the regions in the book would be helpful.

All in all, though -- good job!
