My opinion
This was an interesting novel and I enjoyed the story. The story line was a bit disjointed at times, but overall a good first attempt by this author. The story mixes science fiction with a love story and much early american history. The author undertook a difficult project of trying to update an 18th century time traveler to all the significant historical events that took place from the late 1700's to the present time. I was a little disappointed in the ending and thought it was somewhat abrupt. This is a short novel and fast reading. I hope the author continues to pursue his writing with more substantial works.

Great Resource to use with Church Drama Troupes!
I head up our drama ministry and have used Sermons Alive on dozens of occasions. I find the scriptural and topical reference of the book to be invaluable to finding what I need quickly. If you haven't tried Drama in your church service or are thinking about starting, Sermons alive is a great place to start. Another companion to this, if your congregation enjoys these, is Service with a Smile, also published by Meriwether Publishing. It is also referenced by topic and Scripture; the sketches in this collection are very poignant and funny and guaranteed to keep your congregation's attention. Both these collections ensure that the point of the sermon is remembered, not lost. Drama is a tremendous tool for worship; these books should be in your toolchest!

Provocative insight into an ancient problem.
Dr. Paul Chambers in his "Sex and the Paranormal" gives us a thorough histoical walk-through of about every abberant sexual paranormal manifestation from "Popbawa", an African/Idonesian demon who assults men in their sleep, to the current trend of having extraterrestial sex. All the reportage is done with the eye more on the scholarly than the tabloid. Dr. Chambers answers the question, why, through all the millennium, is sex regarded so evil? Why does each indigenous culture seem to create their own sexual monster? What's going on here? What happened to just good, clean sex? The answer, Dr. Chambers points out in this very readable book, deals with our very human shame and guilt about sexual matters which has its roots in the very earliest Biblical expression. After all it was Eve who tempted Adam and got the two of them thrown the hell out of Eden. We learn that mythology has given us much to ponder about our own sexuality and none of it very good.

Shamu's Secrets of the Sea
I have a 15 month old son, who has fallen in love with Shamu thanks in part to reading this book. The illustrations are wonderful. In short they are not only colorful but capture the attention of a very active child. The story is simple yet exposes a child to new words and the creatures that inhabit the sea. To add icing to the cake, this book is a lift-the-flap book that helps curious fingers explore and set off an adventure of their own. This has easily become one of my son's favorite books and must be read at least three times daily. I would definitely recommend this to any parent and child.

Sharks by Andew Cleave
This is one of the most best illstrated books i've ever read. The detail of the photos makes it a great book, if you like to look at the pictures. There is plenty of information and lots of interesting facts. For someone who wants to get a close look down a throat of a Great White this book has the photos for you. I highly recomend this book for people with sharks on the brain.

Tragic Finale to a Classic Epic
The main characters will be killed off one by one, so be prepared. This book is as good as the rest of the series but it skips many important battles in the war between the 2nd Empire and the Monarchies of God. And most of the book revolves around Corfe while other main characters like Bardolin are shunted aside. This imbalance in the narrations of the different characters really irritated me but on the whole I felt that this book is a good conclusion to a great series.

The Shooter
Published in Paperback by Signet (April, 1994)
Author: Paul A. Hawkins

Good storyline--gives you a good sense of the times.
After reading many Louis L'Amour westerns it was nice to see other issues dealt with here that L'Amour avoids--developing a relationship-sexual encounters and not just leaping to marriage without many words spoken between the parties. Hawkins deals with the harshness of the times--lawlessness and tragedy that were common to the people of the frontier. The ending would make a better impression on a television audience--i felt it was slighted somewhat--left hanging with such an abrupt end to an otherwise lengthy but not too verbose story. Makes you want to read other works by this author.

A Unique Textbook
I've been using this text to teach a senior/graduate course on digital and analog filters. I've found the coverage and the organization to be excellent. Some of the derivations are unique and provide the student with a different point of view than he gets from standard signals and systems courses.

I've found that combining digital and analog filters in one course provides the student with insights into filter techniques that he wouldn't get otherwise. Unfortunately, this is one of the few books that provide this coverage in one text. And it is certainly the best I've found.

The only detriment is the large number of typographical errors. The instructor must take care to spot these and let the students know. I'd very much like to see a 2nd edition with these errors corrected.
