i know just how you feel
This book was trite and artificial and had no logicial reasoning whatsoever! Is this the direction that Christian thought is going?

This Devotional Is The Best I Have Ever Read!
"I Know Just How You Feel" is an absolutely amazing devotional for Christian teenagers who have already committed their lives to Christ and find themselves needing some really good, relavent guidance and support in areas ranging anywhere from divorce to just "being real." As a teenager myself, I have found this to be the one teen devotional that actually deals with a lot of the issues I have had to face as my faith has matured. Other Christian teens can find excellent advice in these pages, written by another insightful teen who was able to incorporate the teachings of C.S. Lewis and the Bible into just about WHATEVER you may be dealing with (even if it's just the 'small stuff' you don't think other people even think about much less relate to). Anyway I'm ordering ten of these for my 9th grade small group. They're great and should never have gone out of print!!! =)

Wonderful!!
A very useful tool for anyone wanting to gain insight into the mind of a teen. I congradulate Cheryl on her moralistic abundance and her dedication to reaching out to teens. Bravo!

Challenging students to think differently
I purchased this book to use as one of my classroom resources for a weekly puzzle with 8th grade language arts students. I write one of the puzzles (generally a condensed version) on the board on Monday, and then give the students all week to ponder the puzzle. On Friday, I draw a winner from the bowl of entries. The winner gets a candy bar of his or her choice.

Besides adding excitement to my classroom, the puzzle presents the students with a mental challenge unlike most of their other intellectual endeavors. So much of what is taught at school is initially unknown to the student; however, the best feature of these puzzles is that the intent of many of them isn't to teach something new, but to make the reader think differently about something that is obvious. Week after week many of my students slap their foreheads on Fridays and proclaim, "Of course!" But, as the year has gone by, I have seen a marked increase in the number of correct responses!

Abstract Mind Games
I got this book, along with 3 other Sloane & MacHale lateral thinking puzzle books for Christmas one year. At first it seemed like a sorry excuse for a gift, but as I read this one first, I found that it was a challenging endeavor of the mind. Lateral thinking, it seems, is taking a situation and finding a solution that is not the most obvious, but usually the most logical. That said, this is challenging to say the least. A good book for people who enjoy mind games.

Very challenging and fun!
I loved this book! It was challenging yet fun. It really makes you think. The questions sound difficult, then when you read the answer, you hit yourself for not thinking of it. I would recommend this book to anyone who has the patience to really sit down and think. It's fun for all ages for any time. From 7 to 70, or from sitting in your living room to in the car during a trip. You'll love this book!

Ok Beginners book
This is a good general basics book -- it has beautiful color plates and some good diagramming on prunning and training.

I found the index of specific species to be very lacking and there is no "problems" section so if you have a problem that is not pest or disease related -- you can't find answers to pretty common situations(like leaf drop) here.

A must for for indoor Bonsai newcomers.
This is an excellent book for newcomers and pros alike. It encourages one to break with many of the old traditions and grow your Bonsai indoors! It covers all aspects of tropical and sub-tropical tree cultivation and gives hints and tips on every page. Excellent value for money at any price.

Very informative and helpful
As a bonsai beginner, I found this book contained very good answers to most of my questions. It is more helpful than my other 3 bonsai books, combined.

The text can be divided into two "sections":

GENERAL INFORMATION: e.g. constant care, repotting and root pruning, shaping, propagation from cuttings, fertilizing, tools you need

SPECIES-SPECIFIC INFORMATION: very clear instructions on how to apply (at what time of the year and with what frequency) the general techniques mentioned above, on the most popular indoor species; for each species there's a picture of a magnificent finished bonsai.

I learned a lot reading about pruning, shaping and growing bonsai over rocks; also air-layering. I didn't find anything about grafting, though. I also appreciated the part about "first steps toward an indoor bonsai": it shows a lot of pictures of plants "before" and "after" a few months of training.

At the end there's a list of "Tropical and subtropical plants suitable for training as indoor bonsai", with a short description of each species and short directions for optimum conditions and care.

To save time, there's also an index of plant names and a general index.

Stay with the predecessor
I read Stephen C. Paul's first book, Illuminations, many times. It is a spiritual wonder, a way to keep yourself honest and on the path you _should_ be on, especially if you randomly select a page to "read." I was extremely disappointed with this volume as I felt it lacked the spirit and movement of Illuminations. I expected it to be a follow-up, a companion volume. Instead, I found the text to feel forced, as if it was written on the heels of Illumination's success. Remember writing term papers on deadline? This was no different. The book felt rushed and the concepts within lack the depth and "illumination" of the previous volume. Maybe Mr. Paul should take some time off and rethink before he writes again.

This little book is a great encourager.
This book is terrific for inspiration and uplift when you don't want to plow through a lot of words! The illustrations equally enhance the short affirmations. I wish I could order some of Max Collins illustrations. This review applies to all three books, "Illuminations", "Inneractions", and "Love." Stephen Paul keeps us on the right track with a change of viewpoint toward ourselves, our loved ones, and the world. I have bought extra copies and given them to friends who appreciate the words and visual effect too. I highly recommend them. I'm sorry some are out of print.

How to effect change in your life with harmony.
This book is very similar in layout and design to the author's and artist's first book, "Illuminations". In that book, author Stephen Paul gave aphorisms that assist one to make changes in one's life. In this, what could be called a sequel, the author gives a different slant. It is for those who have been willing to face their personal issues, and confront their fears, doubts and misconceptions. In the author's words, "I have tried to suggest the life that lies beyond the changes; the life that we change to have."

This book is a very good companion to it's predecessor. I found it very helpful, though I would recommend "Illuminations" be read first, if possible. "Inneractions" serves a different but related purposes. It is more to do with enacting and developing changes already confronted by us.

In this book the author uses, again through short but powerful aphorisms, various tools found in other books. Tools like "creative visualisation", popularised by author Shakti Gawain and "affirmations", attributed to Louise Hay (author of "You Can Heal Your Life") and others. Perhaps what distinguishes Paul's books from others is his uncanny ability to put so much meaning and self-evident truth into what could be called short codes. Just a brief saying can really get your self 'happening' on so many different levels.

Weirdest textbook I ever used
Although Mr. Pinet can explain things very clearly, some of his writing is very strange, especially for a college textbook. At one point, he refers to animals as "critters." At another point, he recommends an experiment of taking your bathtub outside and putting by your pool when the wind is blowing. This book is full of weird little things like that.

Just what I wanted!
Although a college textbook designed for non-majors, "Invitation to Oceanography" contains much information for those interested in the subject. What I especially liked and appreciated the most were the application tasks. These are mathematical problems/questions one can use and apply to the ocean on their next trip to the beach. Moreover, the Internet links provided in the book add a great supplement. Educators at the secondary (high school or college) level will enjoy teaching from this book.

Great Applications Towards Oceanography
"Invitation to Oceanography" provides a wealth of information as a non-fiction text. For those interested in the complexities of the inner-workings of oceanic events and marine biology, this is the book to read. The book is a fascinating read delving into facts and figures of oceanic characteristics and definitions. Teachers and/or those interested in marine science will find the book intriguing with its application towards the field of mathematics, marine science, and chemistry. It will forever change how you perceive the ocean on your next beach vacation.

The "Mostly Happy" Mr. Reiner
This collection of many short, short stories by Carl Reiner is a treat for anyone who is a fan of his, and will bring new fans into his circle. As he says in the title of his book, they are "mostly happy" stories, but one of the three best ones that stand out in my mind is about a homeless woman named Sally that is poignant, polished and emotionally wrenching. It is far from the hilarity we've come to expect from the creator of the Dick Van Dyke Show or the co-performer of the 2,000 Year-Old Man sketches with Mel Brooks. Of course, there are laughing-out-loud short short stories, involving unlikely figures such as Albert Einstein, who Reiner embroils in an illicit love affair. All you can do is laugh at the imagination and wit of such a premise. Of course, in my judgment, the best short story comes from the title of the book, HOW PAUL ROBESON SAVED MY LIFE. Read it and tell me if you think it's true. I can't tell. I hope it is, because it should have happened to Mr. Reiner when he was in the Army. One criticism of the book is that some of the endings seem oddly flat. One great compliment to the author is that he makes you feel that you can sit down, too, and start writing a story, and you'll be surprised at the ease and fluency of your work. It's a book worth reading, even with its highs and lows, and I look forward to his next effort.

A comic giant still at the peak of his powers
Carl Reiner is clearly a comic genius -- as a performer with Mel Brooks, as the director of numerous film comedies including "The Jerk" and in more recent years as an author. This collection is subtle but still another impressive part of his legacy

Hunting's Most Depressing Short Stories
The odd assortment of stories in this book mostly portray hunters as cowards, braggarts, and boors---all caught up in dysfunctional relationships with their parents, children, friends, neighbors, and spouses. There are few classics here and some quality stories by budding authors, but there are many other mediocre ones that seem to have been selected only because of the negative light they throw on hunters and hunting. If you love hunting, you will be disappointed with this anthology.

Not for the hook and bullet crowd
If you like stories where the hunter always comes out on top, is always the hero at the end posing all smiles with an conquering smile, this book is not for you. So much of what passes as hunting literature is pure, self-serving pap...of which you'll find none here.

Focuses on the experience and virtues of hunting
Hunting's Best Short Stories will appeal to two audiences: those interested in hunting and those who want to read haunting short stories on the topic. Over twenty stories focus on the experience and virtues of hunting, from Wallace Stegner's account of his hunt for a teal to Hemingway's best. The works are literary celebrations of the hunter and his prey.

IF COLORADO IS YOUR HOME
AND IF YOU ARE EXPECTING "BIG THINGS", YOU'LL BE DISAPPOINTED. THIS IS A VERY SMALL BOOK, AND IF YOU HAVE EVER STOOD ATOP A MOUNTAIN IN THE SAN JUANS YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. THE PICTURES ARE "SMALL". VERY SMALL!!

THE POETRY IS FOR SOMEONE THAT APPRECIATES THE POETRY OF THE COFFEE HOUSES IN TELLURIDE, AND WHILE I AM SURE THERE IS A GREAT MANY PEOPLE THAT WOULD APPRECIATE IT IF YOU ARE LONGING TO SEE SIGHTS OF THE MOUNTAINS OF COLORADO, AND WANTING A SENSE OF THE MOUNTAIN STREAM AS IT RIPPLES IT WAY TO THE VALLEY BELOW, OR TO BE REMINDED OF THE COOL MOUNTAIN BREEEZE AS IT CARESSES YOUR CHEEK THIS IS NOT GOING TO FILL THE BILL.

A product of it's environment...
What a wonderful little gift size book to give or keep for yourself. Although a little pricey,(typical of first efforts/small publishers) it is beautifully designed and a nice volume to keep by your reading chair or on your desk. And yes (to previous reviewer), it is all around - very Telluride. Such a mixture of poetry and photography speaks to the reader of persons truly in love with their surroundings, as many who live in Telluride are. It is, nowadays, a place of priviledge. For those of us without the priviledge to be there, we are still priviledged in this book to have a peek at theirr surroundings unmarred by festival crowds and crooned to privately by one of it's local poets. This book was a recent 2001 Willa award finalist and I have heard tell of another book from these women in the works. A good pairing, each complimenting the other's specialty. I look forward to more beautiful books from them.

Best poetry book so far this year
Mickey Newbury, famed singer, songwriter, and poet has said that one can make some mistakes with words when writing a book. The sheer vastness of the words will allow for some mistakes. Not so with song writing or poetry. With these you must be precise and every word must say what it means and mean what it says. Rosemerry Trommer has obviously listened to this advice. If You Listen is a collection of exquisite poetry and stunning photographs of an area of the United States unmatched in its beauty, both physical and aural. The San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado have had their share of advocates over the years but none to match that of Rosemerry Trommer and Eileen Benjamin. Where to start? well, first, the poetry is awesome. If you want to experience the sounds of the mountains from a master that carefully selects every word, then read "this mountain knows secrets" or "the trail more traveled" or, my favorite, "if you listen." But then there are tributes to the San Miguel River, Aspens, Wildflowers, and a host of other natural phenomeon's that all have distinct messages...if you listen. One interesting feature of this poetry is it actually sounds as good read aloud as to yourself. Thus, read some of this poetry to a friend and watch as they react to its clarity, charm, and simply wonderful message. Then, as a bonus, show them the photographs. Ah, the photographs. In a word, they are "magnificent." This should have been published as a coffee-table type book. The pictures of Priest Lake and the San Miguel River are as good as they get. I know this may be read with some skepticism but Benjamin's photographs are as good as Ansel Adams and others of his caliber. It is amazing this book is as reasonably priced as it is. If you buy only one poetry book this year, make it this one. You will be getting a book written by one of the premier poet's of the southwest along with unbelievable photographs by a first rank photographer, all wrapped up in a hard-bound package at an affordable price.

Remember, read these poems to a friend and watch them listen.

Never Received the Book!!
I ordered the book on the 16th of Oct, its now the 30th, wrote several times when i did not receive it, still no answer, i want the book or my money back!!

Great text for first-timers. Clear, with lots of cases.
Better than their 6th edition, with appropriate updates and improved chapter organization. I've used this title for four years in my intro course and the students love it.

I love it
I got the book in very good condition. It was delivered in a timely manner. Thanks very much.
