Best Teacher!
Again, N. Ritkowsky has put together an excellent text. Whether you use it in a classroom setting or as a programmed text designed to teach yourself, you won't be disappointed. It covers everything you need to know to be proficient at WordPerfect in a "student friendly" manner. She doesn't leave out steps like other authors I have experienced. I buy all of her books.

Thorough! Interesting!
Johnsgard's big book answers in detail any question you might have about cormorants, darters, and pelicans. Elegant line drawings illustrate behaviors; large maps provide the ranges and breeding sites of the birds. Interesting information and excellent organization make this a good choice for anybody who wants to learn about these fascinating seabirds.

Various perspectives are helpful
All too often, books are written from one perspective, and it is rare that you find a book that contains three different viewpoints on the same topics--from prisoners and ex-prisoners, people who work in the correctional field, and academic experts. The editors have also chosen works by and about both male and female prisoners.

This book is meant to be used mainly for higher education purposes, but it is one of the most interesting books you'll ever read for class. In addition, it's a great book for the general public who want a better understanding of challenges facing our jails and prisons today.

Interesting
This is a reproduction of 14 letters exchanged between Seneca and Paul. All the letters are presented both in Latin and English translation. Mr Berry's commentary provides a great deal of background information. Interestingly, the author is slightly prejudiced in favour of Latin as opposed to Greek. I recommend the book anyway.

Lots of fun!
Some of these stories made me think about what love means. Others are much more gossipy. Either way, it's a winner.

Teacher union loves this book!
Our local teacher's union gives a copy of this book as a present to each new teacher hired by our district. The book is part of three books given to each new teacher. The other two books are: "Pitfalls and Potholes: A checklist for avoiding common mistakes of beginning teachers" and "Bright Ideas: A Pocket Mentor for Beginning Teachers." The books are wonderful for helping new teachers feel confident and pursue their classes with style and zest.

STUNNING SANCTUARIES
Country Churches moves beyond the boundaries of just being a book profiling church architecture. In this wonderful tome, Raymond Zirblis captures the beauty and simplicity of country churches in the rural communities of Europe and the Americas. Unlike their larger counterparts in the city, these churches evoke a powerful sense of spirituality and grandeur in their simplicity.

In order to appreciate the aesthetics of these churches, the author gives us a brief history of church architecture's early development. From there we are taken on a panaromic tour of how these different architectural styles translated themselves into rural settings. What you see is simply stunning.

The photographs of the churches are fantastic. You get the feel of the sacredness and warmth of these varied sanctuaries that are out in the middle of nowhere. In Latin America you see the impact of European church styles melded with the indigenous culture to form an architectural synthesis of spirituality. I found the pictures very moving and powerful in their display of these house of worship. As we go from country to country, the author explains the historical context which impacted upon the building of these edifices.

This is an excellent book for those who are curious about church architectural in general and country churches in particular. If you are a photography buff who specializes in taking pictures of churches, you will appreciate the beauty displayed in each photo. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it for your spiritual enjoyment.

The core values of secular humanism
In this eloquent little book, Paul Kurtz expounds upon the three core values of secular humanism: courage, cognition, and caring. The section on cognition can be somewhat heavy going at points for non-philosophers (and frankly I disagree very much with the pragmatic emphasis) but most of the book reads like a sermon. This book offers inspiration without appeal to religion, and will challenge those who think atheists cannot have high standards of personal conduct and civic duty.
