Di Filippo Rules The School
You need to read this book. If you don't, you should just go back to living in a cave of your own self-imposed isolation. Di Filippo manages to take crazed, madman thoughts and make brilliantly constructed views of the human mind. Reading them is easy as they are rock and roll on the printed page, but at the same time they will stay with you for generations.

A collection of popcorn for the brain sci-fi short stories
Paul Di Filippo has collected several of his sci-fi short stories with rock and roll undertones. Combining music, hard sci-fi concepts, and everyday average or below average people (some of which do live in a trailer park, hense trailer park sci-fi)is not an easy task, but Di Filipo pulls it off nicely. The stories are fast pased, light, and whimsical. Perfect for a lunch break.

pleasant guide to la belle Provence
I used this book for a trip to France last year. It was accurate. It was very detailed. It a had the best information about this small area of France.

Best out of the many Provence Guides
I just returned from two weeks in Provence, where this was one of the 5 guide books that I brought with me. This one outshone the rest, for its use of language, its "tell it like it is" attitude, and its manageable size. The only one I enjoyed more was the "Lazy days in Provence" book by the same authors, but that one does not stand on its own, you need them both in order to really enjoy Provence. So buy the Cadogan guides, and go go go to Provence, which is heaven on earth.

nice fat one
like a year ago i start reading it and i didn't like it very much (actually i closed it after 3 pages). Now im doing a research on skinheads & i kind of have to read it...
and now that i really started reading it i like it!you really get to know the big picture and it is very nicely puted-even for me although i hate politics and stuff like that

so, if u are into things like that i recomand it-interesting stuff if u've got nothing else to do;)

it stole my cheese
If you haven't read this book, you should. Being more of a politically dumb ignoramus, it helps to trace back what you've been missing about early 90's eastern europe...how close we are to breaking down the world now, by racial separation, bigotry and pure fascism. This is a fascinating book. Read it. Bonus: punx vs skins, all interested parties must take a look.

nice basic designs
There are six leaf stencils here, cut into heavy laminated paper. The stencils are: holly (5 inches long), white oak (5 inches), sweet gum (4 inches), yellow poplar (3-1/2 inches), maple (4 inches) and aspen (5 inches). The white oak, maple and holly are pictures on the cover (left to right). Depending on your project, you might want to shrink these basic designs a bit, but you can't beat this price for getting some good basic stencils.

Pretty and handy
This little book has six pre-cut stencils of leaves. Printed on sturdy cardstock and clearly labeled, the stencils are the perfect size for most projects. I've used them to paint and etch designs on jars and mugs, and to create a set of pillowcases and sheets. Included here are a sweet gum leaf, a maple leaf, a yellow poplar leaf, a holly leaf, a white oak leaf, and an aspen leaf.

The fusions
I am currently taking the anthropology class of Dr. Stoller (Magic, Religion & Witchcraft. He gave the class quite a few great books to read, including his. From reading his book, I learned what the title actually means: the social world, the one we live in & the world of the spirits. These are fused when the spirits leave their world and come in contact with ours by taking a medium's body, to transmite a message. Its the possesion of the body and mind, the fusion we cant see, while the medium sees the natural & supernatural. I recommend his book and his teachings!

Possesion beyond watching the exorcist
Stoller does an excellent job explaining the various types of possesion ceremonies among the Songhay culture. It's fascinating to picture how the spirits of the outside world can enter a mediums body to basically communicate with the people of Songhay regarding good and bad things occuring within the community. These people turn to the spirit world turn recieve help with settling disputes, having a good harvest in the future, venting their hate for colonialism, etc. But, not only does Stoller do a good job of explaining these various types of spirits, but he also does a wonderful job of interpreting many fascinating ceremonies that he attended. You feel like your actually there, witnessing a spirit taking over a medium's body. I am currently a student of Stoller's, and it was our assignment to read this book. I liked it very much I am continuing my reasearch of spirit-possesion in the future to learn all I can about a subject that's so intriguing. Stoller's book is awesome!

The Ganja Coast
Published in Hardcover by Random House Value Publishing (October, 1996)
Author: Paul Mann
Amazon base price: $5.99

The best mystery I've read in many a year
This is a better book than Mann's first Sansi mystery ("Season of the Monsoon"), and I loved that book as well. As soon as you open the book and start reading it, you feel as though you are actually in India - Mann's descriptive powers, both of people and places, are that good. And, as with "Season", the violence is mostly implied, and yet you cringe at it just the same (it's implied except for the scenes with the swami and the cobra, and I REALLY cringed at that). My only complaint with the book was with the character of Annie Ginnaro. Because a major part of the book deals with expatriated American hippies, her role is a necessary one, but somehow, she still seems out of place to me. A lot of Mann's story seems stilted when Annie is involved. But I'm still anxiously awaiting the third Sansi mystery, which is currently available in hardcover

How many mysteries have you read that are set in Goa?
By the time you careen through the plot of the Ganja Coast, you'll know more than you may want to know about the corruption of Indian politics, the bribe-ability of the police, the plenitude of available drugs, and the cheap price of human life. Paul Mann's Ganja Coast features George Sansi, an Anglo-Indian lawyer/police inspector who tries to defeat the efforts of the Minister for Economic Development, Rajiv Banerjee, to gain so much financial power that he can blackmail members of the cabinet into appointing him to greater political power. Sansi "vacations" in Goa with his American newspaper reporter girlfriend, Annie Ginnaro, whose observations provide Sansi with an opportunity to explain political machinations indirectly to an audience of readers unfamiliar with Indian politics. Members of the cabinet, with Banerjee's help, are buying up large tracts of land along the Goa coast prior to its being named a free port and developed into a major tourist destination. The coast is presently inhabited primarily by ex-patriate former hippies heavily into the drug scene, which is controlled by Rajiv Banerjee. As the political and drug worlds collide with substantial loss of life, Sansi the investigator illustrates what is good about India and its people

Very useful in helping me plan my 401(k)
Written for investing novices, this book explains and clarifies the details of investing in a 401(k) plan. It was very useful when I set up my 401(k) account for the first time, and has subsequently come in handy as a reference guide when questions arose.

My only small complaint is that at times the material was "dumbed down" a little too much, and the author used generalizations rather than delve into some of the specifics of investing for retirement.

Practical and easy to understand
I usually throw away the material from my human resource department about benefits because it's so difficult to understand. On the other hand, this book really helped me to decide how much money I should be contributing to my 401(k) plan and how to choose my allocations. This is a useful book for all employees with 401(k) plans.

No Rocks In The Head
Actually not bad. This book suffers from the author's reliance on the conventional pseudochronology, but it is worth exploring, particularly for students of the Bible.

A lot of rubbish has been written about the Bible, both pro and con, but ultimately it is the only thing that resembles a coherent and continuous history that can be found until Greek times. Like the Greeks, the Hebrews mingled their faith with then-current events. Unlike the Greek accounts, the Hebrews' is rejected, probably in large part due to anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism, and hostility toward Christianity.

The Philistines remain enigmatic, and while they seem to have thrived, most of what we know still comes from the Old Testament. Bierling attempts to gather together everything that is known about the area in which the Philistines are said to have lived. Since they cease to appear as a distinct people sometime during the period of the Biblical kings, and since their very existence is only known from the Biblical account, interpretations of new data which suggest otherwise merely support the need for chronological revision and a retirement of hostility toward the historical content of the Bible.

See also Immanuel Velikovsky's (new and used) "Ages In Chaos", "Ramses II and His Time", "Peoples of the Sea", and "Worlds In Collision", as well as David Rohl's "Pharaohs and Kings", Peter James' "Centuries of Darkness", Ryan and Pitman's "Noah's Flood", and "The End of the Bronze Age" by Robert Drews.

Hope a revised version comes out soon!
I understand that a new study by Prof. Bierling is due out soon. This work only suffers from being ten years out of date. We have found out a lot more about Philistine sites since tis book was published.

A helpful hint in the right direction
As an Architecture Student, I really enjoyed this book. It was very helpful with sketching techniques and just general concepts related to architecture. It was a required text for a class, but it has been a helpful reasource since. I recommend this book to any person wishing to develop a good sketching technique. This book refrences very important works by Aalto and Wright. It also addresses important and helpful hints about abstraction of ideals and their graphic weight.

Very helpful book
As an interior design student I have found this book to be very informative and helpful. The step by step analysis of the design process is terrific and I've practically worn out the copy at the library, so it's time to buy it for myself.

The Grubby times are coming, are you ready?
What can I say, it's a great Book. This book contains the most comprehensive guide to practical bullet proofing that I have been able to find. I also appreciated the well thought out, easy to understand illustrations.

When times get grubby, this is the book to have!
I first saw this book at the house of a friend of mine. Of course, I found the title very interesting. When I began thumbing through the book, I found it was hard to put down. Don Paul is obviously very experienced in the ways of outdoor survival. He is a great writer, and passes on his infomation to you in a very clear manner. Not to mention the fact that he is extremely humorous at times. One thing I especially enjoyed in this book was the section on how to pick out a guard dog in "grubby times". I think you will find it a very interesting theory. I would definetely reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in learning outdoor survival techniques, or who wants an enetertaining piece of reading.
