The Greeks

The View From Olympus
This is a marvellous series of short essays on the leading figures of Greek life, from Homer to Sappho to Pericles (and his girlfriend) to Aristotle. In the tradition of classical Greek (as opposed to Hellenic) history, it ends with Alexander. A sort of extended "Who's Who" for the period.

The perfect companion for the video
Focusing in the lifes of remarkable Greeks, this series (book and video) makes the Greek civilization accessible to us. Indispensable to anybody interested in the Greek culture.

A lively, engaging, compelling story of Greek history.
The Greeks examines life in the ancient Hellenic world: an era when the foundations of modern science and politics were laid. Based on a three-hour PBS series airing February, this provides a lively story of Greek experience through the eyes and experiences of her heroes and heroines in an excellent, involving account which comes alive. Highly recommended as a strong alternative to the usual dry Greek history.

A NEW LIFE
Congratulations! Nameless has tied the knot and is on the way of beginning a new chapter in his life. Forget about the fact that he was sweating like a pig before "choking" out his " I do." And let's not mention his less than spectacular performance during his wedding night. Nameless is just his plain old self and has a case to work on before he goes on his real honeymoon.

His case is easy, simple and won't take long. Uh, oh. Forget about long. A case of him trying to find the birth parents of an adopted woman becomes more complex than you would think. No one wants to talk about it and Nameless finds himself up a wall that will lead to more trouble and impact on this newlywed's bride.

Pronzini spins a tale in which some things are best left alone. Nameless is also challenged to come into the 20th century with computers and an assistant who can stand toe to toe with our aging investigator. This was a delightful story in seeing a man set in his ways coming to terms with the needed changes in his life. It is also a story that makes you wonder if there are some information in one's life that should be kept secret. Find out as you read this enjoyable Nameless thriller.

Another excellent entry
In one of the best, and certainly most under-appreciated, mystery series around. Why aren't these books bigger sellers? Why aren't the new entires available in paperback? One tip on reading Nameless: Read the books in order. The character changes and develops more than almost anyone in the field.

Nameless delievers page turning mystery
Bill Pronzini's continuing series of the Nameless Detective who is drawn into another puzzling case of abuse and murder. Pronzini is excellent in building suspense and is superb in using simply dialogue to "paint" a character, to reveal the dark and disturbing side of people. Prejudice-yes! I love this series and hope the detective continues to take me on his twisting adventures as I keep-my-eye-on-that-book-so-I-don't-lose-it (my no.1 indicator of affection).

A heartwarming book full of love & forgiveness.
I liked this book. On the surface this book almost sounds like a cliche; love your fellow man, forgive & forget, etc. But the fact of the matter is that it passes on those very messages in an extremely contemporary and simple manner. It reminded me of Deepak Chopra's The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. Heaven Can't Wait helps you, through a variety of ways, to step back, take a breath and (hopefully) be the bigger person. In a world as increasingly complicated and complex as ours, it's nice to have such a powerful yet simple reminder of what is really important in life.

Thought-provoking, inspirational, loving
In a word, amazing! Stephen captures in his first book what so many other like books have taken chapters and chapters to tell. I love it and have told everyone that I know about it, in fact it's one of my gifts to alot of people this holiday season. Definitely a must read for anyone that wants to improve on themselves, their lives, and to attain the dreams and goals that are there for the taking. :)

light-hearted yet moving
Using a less-is-more approach, the author captures your attention with meaningful messages and purposeful poetry. Anyone will love this book, and moreover will tell their friends.

Brilliant and scholarly, but a bit dry.
These lectures clearly reveal Paul Tillich as one of the greatest, most brilliant, theologians of the 20th century. The book summarizes and critiques the entire history of Christian thought (with special emphasis on German theologians). Tillich's appraisals of others are completely fair. His own insights that he shares along the way are those of a devout and brilliant liberal Christian. He summarizes his approach as follows: "Theology must see both sides, man's essential nature, wonderfully and symbolically expressed in the paradise story, and man's existential condition, under sin, guilt, and death."

I have only one reservation. This may well be Tillich's most accessible work, as one reviewer states. But that speaks more to the difficulty of Tillich's other works than to the ease of working through this treatise. It is brilliant, it is beautiful, but it is tough going. I had to reread many passages two or three times to understand them (and a few I simply had to give up on). The book is absolutely worth the effort, but for anyone looking for a somewhat simpler (but excellent) introduction to Christian thought, I would recommend Alister McCrath's "Christian Theology, an Introduction."

Tillich's Most Accessible Work
Paul Tillich was perhaps the most important and influential 20th Century theologian writing in English. His books, however, are tough slogging--especially for those who haven't read all the many continental philosophers and theologians with whom Tillich was arguing. This book, which consists of transcriptions of lectures Tillich gave on the history of Christian thought, is, besides being a wonderful introduction to the subject matter, the best possible introduction to Tillich's own thinking. Wonderfully accessible, engaging and lively, this book is thoroughly readable. If only more of his lectures on other topics were available!

A wonderful, if somewhat subjective history!
Paul Tillich is one of the most influential theologians of the twentieth century. This book, a study of the history of Christian thought, is an excellent introduction to the developement of Christian thought. However, because Tillich is a theologian in his own right, he approaches the thought of others from his own theological contruciton. However, he is still fare to all his predecessors. Furthermore, the book is well written from the point of view of both academician and lay person. Both will find it insightful and useful.

Not bad for a beginner
If you're completely clueless to running your own home-based business, this is a great beginner (hence the title "for Dummies"). I found the book to work best when you already have an idea for your business. As with similar books, it's great to have a general idea of what type of business you'd like to pursue before reading the book; it will help you better shape your idea.

The book did spend a lot of time talking about how to deal with family problems, creating a quiet workspace, setting work hours and how to get through a project when you have no desire. While some people might find this beneficial, it read like "filler" to me.

All in all, though, it's worth checking out.

Another must read small business book!
I love the books by Paul and Sarah Edwards. They were talking about small, home based businesses before anyone else and their books are thorough to say the least. This one covers everything from the legal to the financial aspects about starting and running a small home-based business.

success story
I wished I hadstarted a businesslong ago.My teachers in school made business sound so hard I was turned off.Thank you for changing my life forever.I just wished it waseasier to find more of these on tape.

Highly Recommended by The Mushroom Growers' Newsletter
If you don't have a previous edition, be sure to get this one. If you have an older edition and have an interest in cultivating any of the added species, this edition is essential. If you just want to keep up to speed on Paul's new ideas, this book is the way to do it. We recommend it highly.

Valuable advice
I haven't gone practical yet, but Paul Stamets book leads me to believe that growing mushrooms could seriously improve the return on otherwise valueless timber in my wood (thank you all you Baltic states!). Stamets evidently knows his stuff, and has focussed my study on the practical issues in terms of log cultivation and choice of tree species. I will update this in 12-18 months when I have experimented, as directed, with the Welsh timber available to me.

Most up to date and exciting information I have ever read!
The best! Tops, hands down, expands upon knowledge gained in The Mushroom Cultivator and the authors enthusiasm for mushrooms shines through. Everything I ever needed to know on cultivations, history, and medicinal properties are contained within.. Kudos!

Haunting Memories
A very intriguing mystery. The plot development made me feel like I was there, overlooking every move of the characters. I highly recomend this book to all mystery lovers. The author was able to make me feel very uneasy during the murder sequence because I felt like I was an eye-witness and I wanted the killings to stop. I would read well into the night because it was difficult to stop after any chapter - I wanted to find out what was happening next!

Haunting Memories
This is a very good book. It keeps you interested in every chapter. At first you will think it is just another mystery book. It gets you involved where you can't put it down after you start reading it.

A Great Read
I really enjoyed reading this book. His writing style reminded me of Tom Clancy. He draws you into each characters thoughts, and then lets you see the good, the bad or the ugly inside of each. He keeps you going until the very end, you think you have things figured out....but you were wrong!

Can't wait to read more by this Author!

Grudging respect?
As someone who regards the Trinity Broadcasting Network as a mixed blessing at best (and that's being overly charitable), I was ready to gleefully trash this book. A funny thing happened on the way to my one-star review, however: I began to read this book as a story of perseverance and survival, and a certain amount of admiration began to develop toward Paul and Jan Crouch and their efforts to keep their vision of "Christian" television alive.

The book is addressed from Paul Crouch to his two sons, so the reader feels somewhat like a eavesdropper, in a sense. Being the story of TBN, it is mainly focused on recounting the struggles of building a station, expanding it into a worldwide network, and the attacks that came from without and within, from those wanting to wrest control of the network to long and painful battles with the FCC. Doctrinal issues remain undiscussed, probably because TBN is all over the map doctrinally.

The writing style of this book is certainly not going to win any awards. It reads like something that was dictated into a tape recorder and then transcribed, so if the reader is familiar with Paul Crouch's overly-dramatic speaking style, it will be easy to "hear" his voice. An overuse of the word "precious" is a little off-putting, and the abundance of exclamation points would make Elaine Benis proud.

Still, unless one has a heart of stone, it is hard to keep from being inspired. Paul's fighting spirit, which comes off as vindictive and self-serving on TV, is probably just what the doctor ordered, for without that, along with a few of his wife's strategic tantrums, TBN probably would not exist today. And that would be a good thing? Let the reader decide.

Great piece of work from the luckiest man alive!
There is no doubt that Paul Crouch is the luckiest man alive. 1) He is saved. 2) He lives in a very nice house. 3) He preaches in a stunning church. 3) He gets to be on international television for hours upon hours every day. 4) Best of all, he is married to the hottest woman alive. Sometimes, Jan looks so good standing on TBN's gilded altar that I think I may have died and gone to heaven already!!

Anyways, I do confess I did not pay a whole lot of attention to the words in this book. I think there is a whole lot of good things about Jesus, and some bad stuff about sodomites, mongoloids, and Democrats. It looks pretty good.

Mostly I just paid attention to the beautiful pictures of Jan in the insert. They are glossy photos; her giant teeth are gleaming, her bosom is upright, her wig is perfectly balanced atop her delicate head. If anyone could do this heavenly creature justice, this photographer has done it. Every time I open this book to the center insert, my blood boils just a little bit. My heart skips a beat. Other disturbing physiological changes take place. After a few minutes, I am ready to put the pictures down but I just keep coming back and back and back and back and back again! I definitely recommend this book for all red-blooded Christian males!

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
"Hello World" was a joy to read. The story of the National Broadcasting Station, "Trinity Broadcasting" is told from start to present in an interesting, faith building way. The author
shares the call of God on his life, his battles and his victories
are laid bare to bring to light a better understanding of the
majesty ministry of TBN that the Lord Himself had ordained.

I loved the early stories of Paul Crouch's family, his beloved Grandmother warmed my heart and her faith was a blessing to this reader.
The book also houses some great pictures of Paul and his wife Jan with many world figures, showing the joy when God opened the door after door of opportunity to spread the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

If you are interested in reading a book that will show the power of God, prayer and faith, this is the book for you. It touched my heart in a way few other books have done.
Very highly recommended!

It's OK, But...
This book is a good, though only partial, treatment of the subject of developing a seminar business from scratch. It's actually better at teaching you how to promote yourself as a trainer or seminar leader than it is at showing you how to build a business. It's "you can do it, too!" approach is empowering but woefully incomplete.

Seminar leadership is a viable business in itself, as well as a component of any subject matter expert's business. There is tremendous potential in establishing onself as an expert and selling that expertise though seminars, including "backroom sales" of books, videos, audiotapes, and related products. Seminar attendees, book readers, etc., are also a potential audience for private consulting assignments. The ability and drive to leverage one body of knowledge into multiple formats and venues is central to this book's purpose.

After reading the book and listening to the companion audiotapes (sold separately), I attended a two-day "Seminar Leaders University" hosted by the American Seminar Leaders Association (ASLA), founded by the author and subsequently sold by him. I hold their "Certified Seminar Leader" (CSL) designation. However, none of these three resources addressed the *economics* of the seminar business or prepared me for the business of the seminar business.

Beging with this book, and follow up with Howard Shenson's books, epecially "How to Develop and Promote Successful Seminars and Workshops: The Definitive Guide to Creating and Marketing Seminars, Workshops, Classes, and Conferences," for the dollars and cents of marketing, testing, and delivering successful seminars.

"How to Make it Big" should whet your appetite for more substantial fare to complement its enthusiasm and introduction to the subject.

GREAT!
This book will give you the perfect map for beginning your own seminar business whether you are experienced or not. It also has so many references and tools that it will be the only book necessary regarding this subject for you to have and keep. Thank you Paul!

Wonderful way to learn more about how to get started!
This book was really helpful to me. It contained information on everything from what to do with the initial idea of a seminar business, to how to write a great seminar brochure, to marketing techniques. Overall, I'd HIGHLY recommend it to others interested in making money in the seminar business.

Also, a good selling point is the listing of names, addresses, and numbers for people in the business, contacts, good seminar locations, etc. Very worthwhile investment!
