This book describes the PGA algorithm which is used extensively in all modern SAR systems. A clear and broad treatment of SAR processing. This should be the first SAR book you reach for. It's nice to read about algorithms from the originators for a change.

Squadron Supreme was Marvel's answer to the Justice League. After an incredible 12-issue mini-series (which is still available), this comic book was released as a follow-up to conclude the story line. This shorter graphic novel was incredibly powerful. The remaining members of the Squadron Supreme put their lives at stake to save their dying universe. It is an intense read. If you loved the Squadron Supreme, you must do everything you can to get your hands on this follow up story. I never cried so hard reading a comic book in my life! This is truly not to be missed.

I READ THIS BOOK AFTER VISITING SE ASIA FOR A THIRD TIME IN 1988. AT AGE 14 I LIVED IN KL AND SAW A GOOD DEAL OF THE OLD CITY AND TRADITIONS GIVE WAY TO THE MODERN. THIS BOOK SHOWS WHAT THE REAL SINGAPORE, KUALA LUMPUR, AND BANGKOK WAS LIKE IN THE LATE 1950'S TO EARLY 1970'S BEFORE THE BULLDOZERS CAME. THIS BOOK HAD A CERTAIN SIGNIFIGANCE TO ME AND WILL TO ANYONE WHO LIVED IN THE REGION AS A FOND FAREWELL.

I actually found this book in Greece as I was leading of tour along the path of Paul's missionary journeys. As I examined the book I was sorry that I hadn't had access to it before I left on the trip...it provided excellent biblical and cultural insight into each of the places that we visited (Thessaloniki, Philippi, Corinth, Athens, Ephesus). It is the kind of thorough guide that every busy pastor hopes to find that will make his/her work a little bit easier. It is not a lengthy book but the information is sufficient for the background one needs to learn about the places Paul (and we) traveled.

This is the most complete compilation of the source documents about St. Francis of Assisi. Included are all of St. Francis' own writings and all of the early biographies, along with historical and critical analysis. The book is over 1900 pages. Yet, if one wishes to really come to know the Poor Man of Assisi, this is one work which must be read.

St. James Press comes up with yet another winner! As a reference librarian, I deeply appreciate a well-put-together reference book, especially one that does something new and different. This book essentially compares and contrasts the important biographies, old and new, of over 600 people--you can use it to find out what's the most thorough, the easiest to read, the most full-of-it biography on anybody from Shakespeare to Cory Aquino. The only thing it needs is a new edition every five years or so.

Now in its third revised, updated, and expanded edition, St. Paul's Corinth: Texas And Archaeology by Jerome Murphy-O'Connor (Professor of New Testament at the Ecole Biblique) is a literary and archaeological exploration of Corinth, and presents the literary works of twenty-one Greek and Latin authors in chronological order from the first century B.C.E., to the second century C.E. Exhaustively researched with especial insight into the meticulous translations of the works it presents, St. Paul's Corinth is a fascinating, informative, scholarly, "reader friendly", and very highly recommended study.

Why is a book that was first published in 1895 still relevant to us today?

To begin with, Sir William Ramsay was one of the leading archeologists and scholars of the time. Secondly, and most interestingly, he became convinced of the historical truth of the Book of Acts -- of Luke's account of Paul's journeys -- as the result of his direct investigation of the archeological record.

As Ramsay himself wrote, he originally began studying Acts as a guide to the second century history of Asia Minor. Because he accepted the established scholarly authorities of the day, he started by believing that the Book of Acts was written a century after the events that it describes. However, he soon discovered that the actual historical data pointed to the middle of the first century as the only possible time of Acts' writing. More importantly, he found that the many small historical details of Paul's travels were dramatically confirmed by archeological and documentary evidence. He thus came to regard Acts as one of the most historically reliable documents of the ancient world.

Ramsay's famous book "St. Paul the Traveller and Roman Citizen," broke new ground by demonstrating that historical reliability to a popular audience.

Is Ramsay's book still useful more than a century later? It is dated in some respects. A few of his conclusions have been superseded. Also, much additional evidence has been discovered. But anyone wanting to understand the relationship of historical evidence to the book of Acts will still find this book to be of use. It was the starting point for my own research, when I wrote my book "Evidence and Paul's Journeys." In many ways, my book is simply an updating of Ramsay's work.

I would highly recommend "St. Paul Traveller" to anyone who is interested in the Bible and historical evidence.

"Stabilizing and Integrating the Balkans" is an extremely insightful and timely analysis of how-in a globalized world-national governments and international organizations can form a network to deal with regional conflicts. As the foundation for his analysis, Paul Welfens describes the conditions in the Balkans at the end of the Kosovo War and analyzes how the international community has tried to create the conditions for sustained economic growth and political stability in the region. In addition to providing relevant and detailed economic, political, and institutional information, Paul Welfens looks critically at the key actors of the Stability Pact. The book shows that the approached used in the Balkans could become a model for future cooperation among national governments and international organizations to deal with similar political and economic challenges in other parts of the world. Paul Welfens, however, also identifies inconsistencies that should be overcome. Areas of particular concern are the future transatlantic relationship between Europe and the U.S. as well as the enlargement of the European Union.

While the book focuses on the Balkans in the aftermath of the Kosovo crisis, the reader cannot avoid asking the question of how the experiences from the Balkans could also be used to overcome political instability and poor economic conditions in other conflict regions of the world. For example, in the aftermath of the events in the U.S. on September 11, the international community is confronted with a volatile situation in Afghanistan and the surrounding countries such as Pakistan and India. In many respect, a network approach similar to that in the Balkans will be required to stabilize the conditions in that part of the world as well.

The book is an extremely valuable source for anybody interested in the Balkans. However, it appeals to an even larger audience and is very useful for economic policymakers as well as political scientists. It is highly recommended.
