Some Arrivals, but Mostly Departures: Stories
Published in Paperback by Cellar Book Shop (August, 1982)
Author: Paul Stephen Lim
Amazon base price: $5.50
Average review score:

Finding oneself...in short order
Among an impressive body of dramatic works, P.S. Lim managed to slip this one by. A collection of short stories beginning with the heartening memory of the author's arrival in the States, Lim continues to enchant us throughout with his repeated attempts at mini-bildungsromans. By the time the last tale is told (you can't help but notice that autobiography rings aloud in the majority of these stories), the reader has unwittingly developed a crush on the author and his courageous battles with what we take for granted each and every day. A soild read.

Paul's creative genius takes my breath away
This book is a magical journey into the very depths of horsemanship at it's most enlightened. It would make a best selling drama. For me this book gave a very rare, honest and intimate incite into the life of the very great man who wrote it. Buy it, cherish it, share it with your friends, it will open their hearts and minds to the true songs of horses.

THIS IS THE SIMON AND GARFUNKEL BOOK. GREAT PHOTOS!!!!
The best thing about this book is not only the fact that it has all of Simon and Garfunkel's songs and songs, including the first ones from late '50s early 60's, the book also has never seen huge photos of the duo, plus articles from the '60s, and notes by Simon showing how he wrote his songs... Amazing.

Sino-Mongolian Treatise on wellness
Just managed to get a copy, and it is well worth the money I spent. As an avid food historian, this document being made available is invaluable to determining the cultural influences in the modern chinese humoral theory of food as medicine. I plan to spend many hours both finding many of the rare ingredients and recreating the foods as part of my studies.

The South for New Southerners
The book is a little out of date, but this collection of essays by Southern educators and other authors provides an excellent introduction into what makes the South tick. The article on defining the South was both entertaining and informative. The authors candidly address racial discrimination, sexual discrimination, and good-ole-boy politics. I recommend this book to any "Yankee" contemplating a move to the Southland.

South Sea Culture of the Abdomen
Published in Paperback by Health Science (June, 1974)

Great Book
'South Sea Culture of the Abdomen' is a wonderful book about how to keep your abdomen fit and your waistline trim. It finds its logic in the healthy and fit lifestyle of certain South Pacific peoples. Of course some South Seas people are known for their extended waistlines (such as Tongans and Samoans), but there are many other peoples in the South Pacific region who always look so fit and trim because they stay active and work outdoors a lot, amongst other things. But the author of 'South Sea Culture of the Abdomen', the late, great, Paul C. Bragg, takes it one step further- he introduces us to the wonderful realm of a scientifically-shaped and toned abdomen by telling us things we can do everyday to get our abdomens and waistlines on the way to being as fit and trim as that of a Hawaiian Hula dancer! Lets hear it for 'South Seas Culture of the Abdomen'! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray!

A STUNNING PICTORIAL CHRONOLOGY
As we are reminded in this stunning pictorial chronology there is little on our shores to rival the grand beauty and dramatic history of the Southwest. Photographer George H. H. Huey illustrates the volume with contemporary photos of landscapes from Arizona, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and Utah.

Presenting the stories of this region and its peoples - Indian, Hispanic and Anglo - the author begins with the Clovis people, who can be traced back some 13,000 years, and then he moves on to the Pueblo and Hopi tribes who found homes on in the mesas of Arizona.

Spanish and French missionaries and explorers also play a role in the area's rich cultural background. Among the first missionaries to pioneeer the Southwest were Eusebio Kino and Junipero Serra who traveled to California to convert the native peoples and claim land for the Spanish king. Expeditions from France were largely focused on Texas.

Perhaps most impressive of all is the recounting of William Becknell's forging of the Santa Fe Trail.

Walker brings the area to the present with nuclear research, contemporary border issues, unparalleled growth, and diminishing resources.

Both fascinating and edifying, "Gold, God & Grandeur" will be of interest to all Southwesterners.
