Though the book is well put together and the photographs are decent, this is not a good book to get if you're looking for photographic examples of the rockies.
If you're looking for the story behind the rockies, 5 stars. If you're looking for pictures, 3 stars (at most).

There are some essential works here (Joscelyn Godwin's excellent meditation on Michael Maier and Rafael T. Prinke's article on Michael Sendivogius immediately spring to mind: both of which demonstrate the varities of meaning Rosicrucianism took on to those who sought to perpetuate the movement in different contexts) but also much filler. Too many of the contributions collected in this volume re-state a body of knowledge familiar to all students of the subject. Due to the original format of these contributions (i.e., speeches) this knowledge is -understandably- not communicated in a particularly useful fashion.
Having said that, this volume is worth its price of entry. However the content is certainly a mixed bag.
Lastly, the translations of the Rosicrucian manifestos contained in this volume are those of Thomas Vaughan's mid 17th century edition of the Fama and Confessio .
"The Rosicrucian Enlightenment Revisited" contains nine essays on the early Rosicrucian movement presented at this landmark conference sponsored in part by The New York Open Center, and copies of the first two Rosicrucian Manifestoes, the "Fama" and the "Confessio". It is a great read and ideal for anyone interested in what is truly the heart and soul of Western esotericism - the Rosicrucian Enlightenment.

Rubens's paintings, rather than his drawings, should rightly be his legacy.

That said, I'll explain why I recommend it:
First, most books that teach something about racism in America fall into one of two categories: 1) History books, 2) Contemporary commentaries. This book is actually a hybrid: In the early chapters it is a history. Later on it uses that history to construct a commentary. Because most contemporary commentaries lack a solid historical grounding, this is one of the book's primary strengths. One cannot, I maintain, understand racism, without understanding its history.
Second, in writing the "history" portion of the book Paul Griffin liberally uses one of my favorite historical devices. Rather than simply telling us the history in his own words, he faithfully reproduces the actual words written or uttered at the time, and let's those words speak for themselves. If only for the value of the quotes assembled, this book is well worth its price.
Third, at less than 150 pages, this book is easy to digest. Because I surmise that most people never finish the books they start to read (particularly non-fiction), this is one book that folks can actually start - and finish.
That said, I think there are a few caveats to keep in mind. Racism is a mighty-tangled bush that did not sprout from a single seed. In that sense, this book is not an entirely comprehensive analysis of all the root causes of racism in America (as perhaps its title would suggest). As an example, there is not much said about how capitalist ideology contributed to the establishment and entrenchment of racism. To his credit, however, Paul Griffin deftly handles two important seeds: theology and science, with a primary emphasis on the former. Hence, this book will be most relevant to those who are interested in knowing how theology -- bad theology in particular -- played a pivotal role in the expansion of racist constructs in America. Toward that end, it offers a depth of analysis I have yet to find elsewhere.
Finally, apart from his obvious interest in theology, Paul Griffin is also obviously interested in the modern intersection of sexism and racism, which is where he ultimately takes this work. The final chapter, "White Feminism and the Black Quest for Racial Justice," shows again that there is a relatively narrow prism guiding the book's contemporary discussion. While that is not a problem per se, the reader should be aware that his final analysis is not a comprehensive look at how racism plays out in America today. Rather, it is a more concentrated look at some of the particular ways that certain forms of racist ideology have been reincarnated, especially in "liberal" circles.
All in all, I recommend this book to any serious student of racism in America. (....)
The emotion that was there was fabulous, it was funny, interesting & sad but most of all, for me it was heart warming.
The book gives a very good account of a day to day life of a female to male transsexual, the ups and downs.
The best thing i found was that Paul was really honest and didn't hide the not so good parts of being an FTM.
I would say that the only thing missing from this book was some finer detail....How did he choose the name Paul? Who did he first go to in a medical capacity for help? Were they any good? How long from that point did it take to start testosterone?
I think in a book of this nature the whole point is to try to help others in that situation, which it does, however as i have detailed, i don't think there was enough info about the lead up to starting testosterone.
Paul Hewitts, A Self Made Man gave me the courage to believe that it was time that the little boy that had been inside me for 28 years should come out and breathe for the first time.
So, come on Paul, whats been happening since then? It's time for another!!!!
I would highly recommend this book for anybody who needs advice and additude from a very confident writer and person.
The book fills my world with hope and admiration every time I read it.
The only way that I would improve this book would be to MAKE IT LONGER. And Paul if you are reading this it would great to see and read a follow up, perhaps telling the stories of how you see yourself in 10 years, your surgery and of course the neverending stream of women in your life.
Paul is a credit to the male community and may he and his fellow FTM's live in peace and happiness. I admire him greatly for putting his feelings on paper. Thanks Paul

Since lack of knowledge may be a hindrance to some couples I'd recommend reading it just to be on the safe side and to be certain both mates have the same intentions and are fully committed to a healthy biblical oneness in marriage. Authored by two Christian M.D.'s and ex-pastor, Richard Meier, now a Marriage and Family Therapist practicing at the Paul Meier New Life Outpatient Clinic in Richardson, Texas, along with his wife, Lorraine, they've utilized many years of counseling experience to provide sound medical knowledge on a variety of disorders and encouragement through case studies with some very happy endings. Those who did not live happily ever after, however, have not been included. If you have a resistant spouse, don't waste another moment waiting for them to see things your way, read this book and make practical applications in your personal behavior which will affect your marriage. God will sort things out. You may find your spouse pleasantly surprised when you take the initiative to spice things up a bit. Locate the local candle shops, bath and body shops, Christian music store and pick up a new nightie or two while you're busy filling up that shopping cart.
This book is a MUST for all couples with young children in the home. The Enemy likes to attack young fathers while young mothers are busy focusing on the needs of small children. Men are often working longer hours in order for their wives to stay home with young ones and men face many temptations in the workplace. Every father of preschoolers ought to carry a copy of this book in his briefcase for some light reading at lunchtime. Some men may need to carry it in their front shirt pocket as a reminder or as a badge of marriage. (Great stocking stuffer too, the book is just the right size for your love's Christmas stocking!) Some men may get fresh ideas after reading this book and realize that women would prefer their time and attention versus material items.
Those dabbling in cyberporn or who think just one visit to Hooters or the Cafe Risque' for lunch won't hurt anything are deceived. (It's much like Lays Potato Chips, it's impossible to stop after just one visit to the chip & dip bowl but those thin chips deceive the eye and when you take a look in the mirror the results begin to affect you sooner than you think). Any married man who is surfing the net in his spare time looking for pornsites or exploring the Sports Illustrated swimsuit video should seriously be focusing that attention upon his wife INSTEAD, that is, if he doesn't want to be the Enemy's next target. It can happen to you. You don't know what you have until you've lost it. Consider this paperback to be preventive medicine. I recommend this great little guide book wholeheartedly to all newlyweds and oldyweds alike. It's certain to motivate you to celebrate with your very best friend the marriage God blessed you with and to assist you in achieving true oneness as God intended. Submitted by V.L. Wight

The book is application based, which means that in each chapter you either build or enhance an application from the ground up. This is a great way to see how the concepts translate into reality. You also have to run the programs, so likely there will be the inevitable debugging problems (which is good to get used to if you want to program).
It's slow paced, as it should be for the beginner. There are entire chapters devoted to text boxes and variables and checkboxes. To give you an idea of the pace, Control structures don't appear until chapter 10 (200 pages into the book); Classes and Objects aren't discussed until chapter 19 (400 pages into the book), and Database programming doesn't come along until chapter 25 (almost 600 pages into the book). If you're hoping to learn VB.NET quickly, this is not the book for you. This book is for the programmer who wants mounds and mounds of detail. Persistence will pay off, and when you've eyed the final text on page 752 you'll be well versed in the basics of the Visual Studio.NET IDE and the Visual Basic.NET language (including the basics of Object-Oriented programming and the .NET class libraries). There are even 4 chapters dedicated to ASP.NET to give you a taste of the web programming capabilities of Visual Studio.NET.
I read this book for a refresher (I have previous experience in Visual Basic 6 and Visual Basic.NET) and I was able to complete about 2-3 tutorials from the book per day, which computes into less than a month's time investment. Now I feel pretty confident that I have the fundamentals down.
If you're new to programming, or if you want a back-to-the-basics VB.NET book, this one is a good read.
Arranged by state, the book highlights different attractions in each area. It also suggests driving loops, designed to hi-light the highlights while traveling a circular route along major highways. This is certainly designed well for someone who is unfamiliar with the area and wants a travel itinerary laid out with suggested sights and attractions.
Accommodations or restraints are not listed, so one would have to look to another guide or the internet for those. This book can get you started with your destinations, however.
