it gave what was needed
The book gave what was needed and some more: how to beat each misson with flying colors, detailed descriptions of every civilization, strategies on how to win at multiplayer, and much more. the only down side was that if you buy this the game loses some of its chalenge.

Reasons for buying a gaming book...
One> I am attending an AOK TC competition in 3 days. I needed a quick reference to all the civilizations which is found in this book plus strategies against and for. Two> Knowledge is power - info in the net may be diverse but it isn't complete. This book caters to my immediate needs. Three> If your sick of your performance against a 'Hard' skilled computer - I suggest you grab this book. Ages of Empires and Kings is a thinking man's game - it is the new age Chess or Toy Soldier game in full real-time.

Viva Espana y this game!!!
I love this game. You get to use Spain and they even speak Castillian Spanish just like my Grandparents speak it. Really smooth gameplay, Great Online play I could play this game everyday all day for years and not get sick of it. I have been playing it since day one when it came out and I still love it. My only favorite P.C game title I still enjoy. Lots of great stuff in this game. Create own maps, download maps, Create characters, Awesome Map editor with the ability to use triggers. This game rips and always will. Santiago!!! Guerra!!!!

Suicide: The Forever Decision...for Those Thinking About Suicide, and for Those Who Know, Love, or Counsel Them

Helpful--made me feel better
I purchased 3 suicide books when I went through my latest suicidal crisis--well, all right, maybe I'm still in it. This was the one which actually made me feel better. One book made me angry; one I still haven't read; this book pointed out to me that behind my mild-mannered exterior lies an intensely angry human being--someone I wasn't in touch with at all. This surprising insight alone was worth the price of the book. I can pick it up and read one of the short chapters inbetween my intensely stressful and busy life and it makes me feel better. Yes, I'm seeing a therapist; yes I'm seeking other forms of support; but I've added this book to my support system. I want it on tape!

Invaluable
This is one of the most compassionate books for those who are suffering in pain due to mental disorders. I have been battling severe depression and suicidal thoughts for some time. The gentleness and care from the author allowed me to open my heart enough to be able to read this book to the end. It was comforting and yet realistic at the same time. When we roam in the darkenss of suffering and pain, we tend to become blind and forget essential facts that may save our lives. I must admit that I have not been able to conquer my suicidal thoughts but "Suicide, the Forever Decision" helps me "fight" my illness. The book stays by my bedside.

Dr. Quinnett, reading your book makes one feel that they are sitting in an office and listening to your words with comfort. I believe that this is due to your understanding and care for this illness. In the near future, I will be volunteering and participating in a research project on antidepressants. I look forward for future writings from you not only for myself but for many others who are fighting the "beast". I thank you.

Great book!
I work on a inpatient psychiatric unit and everyday we have patients who are on our unit with suicidal ideation. We use this book as mandatory reading for those patients. The feedback we receive has been great. We have yet to have anyone say they did not get anything out of it. Most of the patients have taken the book home with them. Staff have also read this book and we all feel that it is a great book that presents suicide in a very compassionate yet matter-of-fact manner. It has probably saved many lives. Thank you Paul!

Good starting book if you can tolerate all the errors.
This is a decent book for getting started on VBScript and very basic HTML. Make sure you know HTML or have a good reference handy since there are enough typos and mistakes to really frustrate a beginner. (The CD that comes with Laura Lemay's ActiveX and VBScript contains an HTML book that got me through.)

I downgraded the score mostly due to the typos in the code like missing quotes and such. The section on Frames gives step by step instructions but leaves out a vital part while not explaining things very well. The book was obviously never proofed by someone who didn't know the subject and that is the target audience. It's not an HTML book, but if the instructions are there, they should be correct.

The sample code is available from a web site and the first one I copied did not work due to careless typos in the script code. I found it highly annoying.

Excellent book- allows users to get quick grasp on VBScript
This book was great-- from the very beginning you are writing scripts and learning by example. Everything is very conversational and easy to understand, but without falling into the trap of seeming condescending to advanced users.

I'd recommend it to anyone trying to get up to speed on VBScript. (As an ASP developer, I find it invaluble.)

Simple is a virtue
If you're a programmer and just want to know what are the basics of html and vbscript? This is the book to read. It's simple and concise. I really enjoyed it. [It] is a bargain.

Pretty good book on ab development, but outdated
I have to give this book credit, it sticks to its topic very well, making the book concise and easy to follow. It opens with the basics of ab anatomy and then moves in to various exercises and programs for strengthening and developing the abdominals. Only at the end does it stray slightly off course and discuss the nutritional aspects of ab development.

The one area where this book stands out (and my reason for purchasing it a while back) is that it focusses on the pelvic tilt associated with improper ab development. For about $... it might be worth it just for this information.

The downside is that this book is out of date. Swiss balls are the current rage in ab developed and the book author has titles devoted entirely to this subject, yet they aren't mentioned once.

Definitely very good for beginner
Definitely very good for beginner, although I have to agree that flipping pages back and forth during the exercise is not very convenient. Authors could position material better or include a separate workout sheet. Most of the excersices can be done at home.

Excellent step-by-step plan for ab development
This is the best book I've read on how the abdominals work and how to development them. It begins with a technical section (low interest for me), but then moves to a helpful beginner, intermediate, and advanced level workout routines. That's the best section. Well worth the money!

a painless introduction to Heidegger, but only an intro
I wish I had found this book before starting on Heidegger in a class. It is a simple (simplified) overview of the complex and integrated thought of Heidegger. But I believe it will give beginners an overview of what to expect as they dig deeper. Then the digging will be less painful and more profitable.

In our class, it became known as the "Heidegger Coloring Book", but others were eager to borrow my copy.

A good starting point, no matter how serious you are or are not.

A Captivating Introduction to a Complex Topic
For my American Literature Class, I have to choose a philosopher and then find examples of his ideas throughout 20th Century Noble Prize Winning American authors' novels. Having first read about Heidegger in a World History class while studying nazi Germany, I had always been interested in his ideas. This book served as a nice and entertaining overview of his philosophy and influences. For people just looking to expand their philosophical horizons or learn more information without having to read a boring text, I suggest this and practically any book in the "For Beginner" series.

Great, Quick Survey for Difficult Ideas
Don't kid yourself and pretend you're too good to read these '... For Beginner' books. They're an ideal way to gather together and encapsulate the key ideas of the primary texts to which they refer. They read quickly, have a sense of humor, and are great little summaries of key concepts.

It goes without saying that they're no substitute for the real thing. That's a given. But Heidegger is difficult. (Are as most of the philosophers that these books deal with. Anybody who says otherwise is lying -- or has read so much Heidegger that he/she has started to get brain-blur.)

The great thing about this Heidegger book (and all the books in the series) is that they present the key ideas in simple terms. And bear in mind that there's nothing wrong with simplicity. Good 'simplicity' is a lot more difficult than one might think. Writing simply and thinking critically is what these books are all about -- and for these reasons, I can't recommend them enough.

I'm a few years out of graduate school, so I feel myself 'out of the loop.' These books are a great way to refresh key concepts, get a good solid fix on Heidegger's so-called project, and give you space enough to dive in (or at least poke about) in 'Being and Time'.

Plus, they make Heidegger's difficult ideas ('Being' 'Dasein') accessible -- and, quite frankly, that's what learning (and reading) is all about. Yeah, they're no substitute for the real thing -- and anyone who thinks otherwise is sorely mistaken -- but they're great contextualizers -- and for that reason, they're quite valuable.

Besides, everybody has hang-ups about the 'difficulty' of modern philosophy. What these books do is to say: Look, the ideas *are* difficult -- don't kid yourself -- but just because they're difficult doesn't mean they should be *inaccessible*.

And that's what you want a good teacher to say, right? You want someone to clomp you on the back, tell you not to worry, and assure that if you just keep at it -- keep reading, keep grappling -- you'll do fine. That's what these books do. They're the teacher clomping you on the back, telling you not to worry.

Best i've gotten so far
well, I was here reading others' review while i was about to master my 5th language - Japanese. I bought lot of Cheap Japanese-Chinese book / dictionary in China, but nothing compares with this dictionary. Those examples are helpful if not crucial for understanding the use of the words. However! I think it miss something whcih other dictionaries got: an index for checking out the Chinese characters (Kanji). very often, readers encounter Chinese Kanji in the Japanese language without Furigana, this dict can't help at all if you don't know how to pronounce the word. as you think like this, this dictionary is 1/3 useless. I should have given it 3 stars as a reader in general for this oversight(5stars for the English-Japanese one), but since I'm chinese, I can read most of them, . Yet sometimes I come across word groups that made up of all the Kanji that I know and still make no sense. My suggestion is: if you don't need to get the dictionary on a trip or something, don't buy these two dictionary, buy the one with both dictionaries compiled together, I wish it was available a month earlier.

sayonarajado
This dictionary has the kind of format I like best. There are plenty of example sentences and the font is clear and doesn't strain the eyes as some dictionaries of Asian languages tend to.

Furthermore, since the reader has no other option but to look up the English translation of Japanese words in Furiganga, there is constant Kana practice inherent in the design of the book. From an educator's standpoint, that is a very positive reinforcement tool for first and second year students who might still have trouble with Kana.

Nevertheess, I only wish this dictionary were more comprehensive for advanced students of the language.

The BEST dictionary for beginning to intermediate students
As a North American living and working in Tokyo for the past three years, it was inevitable that I'd come to study Japanese. After learning hiragana and katakana (the foundation for further language studies), I soon realized I needed a good dictionary to help build my vocabulary.

Unfortunately, all of the dictionaries I found were either "romanized" (a step backwards once kana has been learned), lacking an adequate base of intelligent vocabulary, or filled with advanced kanji intended for native speakers.

I was thrilled to find this excellent "furigana" dictionary by Kodansha. Furigana (small kana printed above the kanji entries which allow even beginning students to read the Chinese characters) has been provided for each entry. This was exactly what I'd been looking for.

The 16,000-word basic vocabulary has proven a great starting point for my studies, and I've come to rely on this book as a vital supplement for conversation, homework and continuing studies. Sensical definitions in clear English, along with sample sentences in modern Japanese makes this dictionary indispensible. The publisher's companion volume, "Kodansha's Furigana English-Japanese Dictionary," is also highly recommended. Both books feature a basic grammar explanation and useful index containing "counters" and other related information.

In Tokyo, I was able to get the 1997 and 1998 editions, respectively, for each volume, and they're both soft cover editions--a plus over the hard cover versions. Overall, a must have for all beginning to intermediate students of Japanese.

Lots of information I couldn't find elsewhere easily
I'm getting married and I contacted about 10 resorts to find out what they included in their wedding packages and it took me so long and then I found this book and I went through the whole thing in a couple of hours and chose which places my fiance and I might go to for our honeymoon. It was great and saved me a lot of time and the book was inexpensive (and is large and looks beautiful.) My only objection is that it didn't include anything in Europe and we are still considering going to Italy to get married.

from Bookviews March 2002
... Here's the lowdown on the special package deals offered by more than 135 elegant hotels and cruise ships in the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii and the rest of the US. Find out which resorts will marry you or renew your vows for free if you stay there. Learn what the costs will be, which religious ceremonies are conducted, whether they will secure the marriage license and do the paperwork for you, who to contact, and how far in advance to book. It can range from two hours to six months! This is a great way to plan a great wedding or a ceremony in which to renew one's vows. Don't get married without it!

This book helped me to have a wonderful honeymoon!
I used this book to decide where to go for for my destination wedding and it was easy to look up the hotels (they were listed not only alphabetically but by area) so it saved me a lot of time. I had been trying to research where to have a destination wedding on my own when I found this. I was originally planning on marrying in Europe but found that it's very difficult to marry there if you're American. But this book had resorts in the Caribbean and Hawaii (and Florida in America)where it's easy to have a destination wedding. After looking at all the places in the book, we chose Couples in Negril (the book told us what we needed to know--including that weddings there were free!) and it was wonderful. It's a beautiful book with many pictures of resorts and I'm keeping it to see where we'll go for our first anniverary.

Okay if you like Excel...
I got this book to write some VBA in Word97. 32 out of the 900+ pages are devoted to exactly that... almost. The problem is that this book doesn't give you the definitions of the objects and their parameters, so it's like trying to learn to speak (or write) a languange without a dictionary. Lots more examples for Excel and Access. Interesting that the object SELECTION is referenced under the section devoted to RANGE, when Woody Leonhard of the Annoyances series of books says SELECTION is superior (in Word, at least.) Also very few examples of using the code. I might be able to figure out the definitions by watching what the code does, but without examples.... Excel people will have better luck.

Comprehensive Intermediate to Advanced VBA
I found this book to explicitly cover the basics of building a solid foundation in object programming. Other books I have read provide a great introduction for the beginner who has only recorded macros. If you want a serious and in-depth guide from an overview of the absolute basics to the specifics of the MS Office object model, this is your tome.

A great book specially for Excel development
Why I've bought this book? I have read the comments of others who previously bought it and what convinced me was the fact that it was based more on Excel than on other MSOffice apps. This is what i was looking for. Unfortunately there are not many books on VBA for Office 97, and what exists is either too complex for a beginner or way too easy. I haven't finished the book yet, but for my own purposes is excellent and really straightforward to read. I have learned something new from the very first chapter of the book.

More mindless dribble...
More mindless dribble from a writer whom Amway helped make thousands of dollars by writing a book that is required reading for all new distributors. To give you a hint, Amway is now on the web under the name of to hide who they are; a website where you can purchase toilet paper . Nowhere does the writer talk about the hundreds of lawsuits that have been filed against Amway, that most of the money in Amway is through the sale of books and tapes created by organizations independent of Amway, or the thousands of people deceived every year. Don't waste your money on this book: instead read False Profits by Fitzpatrick.

Interesting read
I really never liked Amway. Of course, I never really knew anything specific about Amway or the founders of that organization...until I started reading about them in business journals and the Dunn and Bradstreet report of stability. The business community greatly respects the founders of Amway. They give away millions every year to charities. They help their community and society in general. The best thing is, this book is designed to show you what they did to get to where they are.

This title presents an overview of the philosophy of the founders of one of the largest privately owned companies in the US and the world. They are successful people who explain how one might be a success as well.

I've also noticed that most of the negative reviews for this title do not address the content of this title. Whereas, those who enjoyed it comment on the content. Interesting, wouldn't you say?

The book is written clearly while maintaining the focus on encouragement and reaching one's goals.

Good read even if you aren't saving money with Amway. They have a sister company called Quixtar. Very similar philosophy and quality products. Quixtar was founded in 1999 and is also privately owned. This philosophy works!

Great Book got me going
Well another great book by Paul Conn. People think sometimes Mr.Conn is a distributor but he is not and never has been one! He is though a great Dean of student's at Liberty University. For those who think there is no MONEY in the business has never experienced what I have. Im also an Independent Business Owner and if I wasn't making good profit like some people say! I would have QUIT long ago!!!!!!!
