Not bad....
Not a bad book. Its perfect for those new to computers in general. But if your like me and have quite a bit of experince the exercises can be a bit hard to get through because of the amount of useless text used. For example instead of saying SAVE THE TABLE it gives step by step instrctions each time a table needs to be saved. However if you are able to get past that part then I would say get the book you will learn alot from it.

Great for the self-paced learner!
I used this book to take a Word 2002 class over the internet and it's one of the better books I've seen. It comes with the CD with all the documents in a easy to organize format, very useful there's no long downloading from the net. Each lesson gives detailed step - by - step instructions. Good real world examples of projects. I've used almost everything I learned in the book on my job -- sometimes the very next day. Great for someone who is wanting to improve their job skills without going through the trouble or expense of taking the class. Very good content -- the only draw back is that the book is VERY thick and sometimes had to handle on a typing stand. Spine is not very strong.

Morroccan tales
Paul Bowles was always a unique writer. An expatriate American who went to Morrocco and stayed. Midnight Mass is a collection of his short stories written after 1976. It is a great companion piece to his Collected Stories which gathers his stories prior to 1976. Bowles can be difficult to read because he became so emmershed in Morroccan culture it is quite, shall we say, foreign to Western readers. This is not the writing of an American. Paul Bowles became like a Morroccan in his years in Tangier. If you want to learn a little about Morroccan culture this is a good place to start. Stories like The Eye and Madame and Ahmed hit the mark. It is, overall, an outstanding collection. It is great for lovers of literature in general as well as for Morroccan neophytes.

Very McCarthy.
When I purchased this book I had hoped it would follow suit with many of Mike Kelley's other texts and thouroughly expound on his theories and concepts, but this is 98% photographs of "Sod and Soddie Sock," a collaborative artwork by Kelley and McCarthy. The images are extremely high quality, but follow the harshness inherent in all of McCarthy's works. Not for the sheepish or easily offended.

It Could Have Been So Much More
David Larkin has undertaken a project of massive proportion with this volume and on the whole, the presentation is worthy of the attention of readers with an interest in grist mill technology, American vernacular architecture and historic preservation. That said, I was disappointed to some extent with this book which I felt was desperately in need of a competent editor and extensive rewriting.

Right from the start, in the introduction to the book, I was unhappily surprised by the text which often seemed to me to be confusing substantively and awkwardly constructed. To take one example: "What was once a common occurrence is now rare, but a number of these stout buildings remain in what were strategic and active spots on stream banks and hillocks, some working, some with a new life as a home or office, some as picturesque ruins, and importantly, a growing number restored as plain country mills as interpretative museums--indicators of the growing interest in their history and technology with an eye perhaps toward their relevance as sustainable users of natural power." Although Mr. Larkin's writing improves as the book proceeds, I also found as I read through the text that many technical details pertaining to the actual working of the mills described in this volume were inadequately presented. So that it was difficult to follow these descriptions and come away with a clear understanding of the functioning of the mechanisms under discussion. Which was a pity given my desire to absorb and revel in this most intriguing subject matter!

On the positive side, the many splendid photographs contained in "Mill--The History And Future Of Naturally Powered Buildings" provide a wonderful introduction to the architecture of mill construction and a lovingly documented excursion into the rural landscape where these highly functional buildings operated, often for scores of years at a stretch. So it is for the visual presentation that I can strongly recommend this volume. Even though the book could have been so much more, it still offers a great deal to the reader with an interest in a world which is quickly disappearing from our view and, unfortunately to my mind, our consciousness.

Nice Reference Book for Fine China Collectors
I first looked at this book at the library, then decided it was informative enough to purchase for my own china collector's library. It doesn't have prices which many do...but it has wonderful descriptions of the manufacturers and good color photographs. Used in conjunction with a Warman's book, you will be able to identify most major china manufacturers. I reccommend this highly.

Everything about windows, doors and mouldings
This book is just the thing for homebuyers, homeowners, real estate agents, builders and architects. With this as a guide, you'll look at doors, windows and moulding with a new eye.

The book gives basic information about window frames, sashes, hardware, glazing material, weather stripping and important window measurements. It also discusses such window selection factors as light, ventilation, view, security and safety, architectural appearance, energy efficiency and ease of maintenance. You'll learn about available window units, glazing, measuring energy efficiency, window buying, installation, certification and maintenance.

The book has analogous information for doorways and moulding. It's illustrated by line drawings and all too few photographs.

Very good history of an important railroad electrification.
The Milwaukee Road electrification was one of those technological marvels which, at its demise in 1974, still had both technical and economic advantages over modern diesel power. Holley did extensive interviews with Laurence Wiley, who had overhauled the system in the 1950's, and was one of the authentic geniuses of railroad electrification. It was a wonderful era, and Holley captured it very well, both in terms of technical description but also "personality." For anyone with a warm spot for what railroaders could do with railroads, this one describes a unique story, well told. The Milwaukee Road electrification spanned 60 years and 600 miles of mainline through five mountain ranges to the Pacific shores. Its electrics generated horsepower and tractive effort that GM and GE still, even with modern Diesel engines, AC traction, and power control technology, cannot match, and did it far more efficiently.

A Fine Map of Cognitive Science
"Cognitive Science" is a slippery notion, which may be intrinsic to any endeavor (oops, Thagard's Canadian; make that "endeavour") that emerges from many different fields. But Thagard makes an honorable and largely successful stab at giving it some boundaries and some internal structure. If you're intrigued by the idea of mind science and just want a general idea of what the issues, approaches and shortcomings of its current state are, then this book (written for an introductory, probably undergraduate, course) is a fine place to start.
